QUARANTINE STUDIO CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA SPRING/SUMMER 2020 I left my downtown studio behind at the start of the quarantine in March, as everyone went inwards and away from each other, for fear of the viral pandemic that gripped the world. I studio. In the paintings that have emerged during this lonely and unpredictable time, I see a desire for order, constancy, and relocated to a small backyard garden shed at home, a micro mostly, communication. So many things in the natural world and in the invisible world have a kind of rhythmic symmetry; frequencies of sound, light waves, vibrations, tree rings, flowers, butterfly wings, geodes. I try to capture this energy and symmetry in the paintings. Portals, camouflage, signals, echoes, protection. These are what I wish to send to everyone, to create between everyone, as we find ourselves so isolated from one another amidst so much loss.
