ORAL ROBERTS MEN’S SOCCER HEAD COACH

Head Coach Ryan Bush After five years leading the ORU women’s soccer team, Ryan Bush took over the men’s program starting with the 2013 season. In five years, Bush turned ORU into a conference championship contender, compiling a 42-446 record, including a 12-7-2 mark in 2012, the second highest win total in school history. The Golden Eagles wrapped up their 2011 campaign with a 4-4-1 record in their final season of Summit League action 7-10-2 overall. In 2010, the Golden Eagles improved on their record from 2009, but narrowly missed the conference tournament with a 9-8-1 mark. Bush produced surprising results from a team made up of mostly freshman and battled injuries. In 2009, Bush led the Golden Eagles to an 8-9-1 overall mark, including 5-4-0 in Summit League. The five conference victories were the program’s most since 2004. In his first season as women’s head coach (2008) Bush guided ORU to a 6-10-1 overall record and a 3-5-0 Summit League mark. ORU Athletic Director Mike Carter announced Bush’s hiring in the spring of 2008. Bush served as an assistant for the men’s soccer program prior to taking over the ORU women. In his second year with the ORU men, the Golden Eagles were ranked as high as No. 23 in the nation, the highest ranking in program history. During the five years, Bush helped guide the Golden Eagles to qualify for the postseason conference tournament each year. Prior to joining the ORU staff, Bush was the head women’s soccer coach at Cascia Hall High School in Tulsa, Okla., for the 2003-04 season. Bush was a two-year standout for the Golden Eagles from 2001-02. He was part of the 2001 squad that captured the Mid-Continent Conference regular season crown. Before arriving at ORU, Bush played two years at Bacone College, where he led the team to a national top25 ranking and a NJCAA Regional Finalist in 2000. Bush received his masters in business administration from ORU in 2006, while earning his bachelors in business management in 2003 from ORU. During his playing days in high school, Bush was a first team All-State performer and four year letterman for Charles Page High School. He also played for the Oklahoma Olympic Development program. Bush resides in Tulsa with his wife Rachel. Golden Eagles 21

Assistant Coach Brent Coates Brent Coates comes to ORU for the 2013 season after a serving as the head men’s soccer coach at Oklahoma Baptist University for the previous six seasons. In the fall of 2013, Coates lead the OBU Men’s Soccer team to a Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament title while advancing to the Sweet 16. He has served as the SAC Men’s Soccer Conference Chair and served on the NAIA National Top 25 Ranking Committee for the previous three seasons. Coates was the Sooner Athletic Conference Coach of the year in 2010 after leading the Bison to a 17-4 record, winning OBU’s first SAC regular season title, their first post-season tournament title, a sweet 16 birth at the NAIA National Tournament and a No. 14 National Ranking.

In 2008 the Bison were ranked as high as No. 17 nationally and finished the year with an undefeated record in the SAC carrying a 12-2-4 final record. Coates was at OBU for nine years, helping to start the program in 2004 as an assistant coach with teams in 2004 and 2005 that finished ranked No. 23 and No. 11 nationally. Coach Coates has coached numerous AllAmerican’s at OBU who have gone on to play professional soccer in the MLS, USL, and various leagues around the world. Coates was also the assistant women’s coach from ‘04-‘06, and the head women’s coach from 2007-10.

He has been on the Oklahoma State Olympic Development program staff for the past eight years coaching numerous age groups on both the girls and boys sides. Coates is a self-proclaimed Air Force brat having grown up and played soccer in England and graduating from high school there. He played soccer at the University of Tulsa and has an undergraduate degree in business administration (1998). He went on to get his master’s degree in education (2001) from Bethel College (now Bethel University) in McKenzie, Tenn., and served as a graduate assistant soccer coach for both men’s and women’s programs. He also served as an assistant coach at Oklahoma Christian University (2002-03) that saw the Lady Eagles program reach the NAIA National Tournament. He has a five year-old daughter named Kayleigh.
