2017 WOMEN’S SOCCER MEDIA GUIDE ROGER BUSH
HEAD COACH | FIFTH SEASON | 40-31-8 Overall Record After four seasons as an assistant coach, Roger Bush was named the head coach prior to the 2013 season. In the first season with Bush at the helm, the Golden Eagles went 15-4-1, a new school record for victories, and finished second in the Southland Conference with a 10-2 mark. Bush finished his second season at the helm with a top-50 strength of schedule, including four contests versus power conference schools and a total of seven opponents finished the season regionally ranked. Three Golden Eagles received postseason honors under Bush, including Maria Stordahl who was named First Team All-Summit League, Lexi Jones was named to the league’s AllNewcomer Team and Kaily Cox was named a CoSIDA Academic All-America. Under his direction, Jennifer Abernathy and Kaily Cox each were named to National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Central Regional teams. Abernathy was also named the Southland Conference Student Athlete of the Year, while Cox was honored as the Southland Newcomer of the Year. Six Golden Eagles were named to All-Southland teams, including Abernathy and Cox on the first team, and Jordan Parsons, Megan Giles, Kayla Keller and Maddie Rhodes on the second team. Before coming to ORU as an assistant, Bush was a head coach for seven years at Charles Page High School. As head coach at Charles Page, Bush took over a team that hadn’t won a game in three seasons, and posted six consecutive years of improvement, becoming a perennial play-off contender. Under Bush’s tutelage, 10 players earned all-state recognition. Bush was named the 6A District Coach of the Year in 2003 after earning a spot in the playoffs for only the fourth time in school history. In addition to leading the ORU women’s soccer team, Bush also serves as the director of coaching at the West Side Alliance Soccer Club in Tulsa, a post he has held for 17 years. As director of coaching, Bush oversees a staff of 30 professional coaches and over 50 volunteers. Since 1995 when Bush arrived, the number of teams has grown from four to 27, and approximately 75 former players have earned more than $2,000,000 in scholarship aid. Bush was named the Oklahoma Soccer Association Men’s Coach of the Year in 2001, and has led seven different teams to national rankings (top 50). Bush earned his bachelor of science degree in biology (pre-med) from the University of Tulsa in 1996, and was the valedictorian of the Charles Page High School class of 1991. Bush has also taught A.P. biology at Charles Page High for the past 12 years.
