¡Regresa el futbol europeo!

Oficialmente han vuelto las grandes ligas a Europa, en una temporada particular que deberá pausarse por casi dos meses mientras se juega la Copa del Mundo. ¿Cuál es el panorama en las 3 principales ligas?

La Liga

Después de dominar a placer el torneo local, ganando 8 de 11 ligas entre 2008 y 2019, el Barcelona ya ha pasado 3 años sin levantar el trofeo de La Liga, e incluso se fue en blanco la campaña pasada. Sin embargo, los culés tienen una plantilla renovada y el ánimo a tope para esta próxima temporada, la primera que comienza Xavi en el banquillo. Lewandowski, Raphinha, Koundé, Kessié, Christensen y probablemente Bernardo Silva hacen pensar que el Barça, al menos, será más competitivo que el año pasado.

Hablando del torneo pasado, el Real Madrid, sin ser espectacular, ganó Liga y Champions apenas por 2º vez en 60 años. Con un Benzemá estupendo, un Courtois inmenso y una plantilla fuerte, los merengues ganaron lo que quisieron y dominaron a placer la liga española. Este año, sin mayores cambios, y habiendo terminado la novela Mbappé, siguen luciendo como el rival a vencer. El resto de los equipos se ven, como casi siempre, lejos de los dos grandes, y difícilmente alguien más haga cosquillas a culés o merengues.

Premier League

Sin duda, el campeonato inglés se ha posicionado no solo como el de mayor nivel, sino también como uno de los más parejos. El City ha dominado con 4 de los últimos 6 títulos, y ahora con Haaland las expectativas son aún mayores. El Liverpool ha sido el máximo perseguidor, aunque han resentido la salida de Sadio Mané, con Darwin Núñez como una gigante incógnita.

Sin embargo, este año los clubes londinenses parece que podrían unirse a la fiesta. Arsenal ha comenzado en excelente forma el año, ganando todos sus partidos (incluyendo dos en Orlando), y con Gabriel Jesus adaptándose de forma inmediata a los Gunners, quienes llevan ya 6 años sin jugar Champions pero este parece ser el año que rompen la racha.

El Tottenham de Antonio Conte tuvo un verano movido, trayendo a 6 jugadores (Richarlison y Perisic los más destacados) y manteniendo a Harry Kane y a Son, dos atacantes de clase mundial. Sin embargo, Chelsea parece dar un paso atrás, perdiendo a sus dos delanteros (Werner y Lukaku) en el mismo verano, aunque ninguno dio el ancho en los Blues. Además, están pasando por un proceso de transición de dueños, y costará tiempo adaptarse.

Quien está en el hoyo es el Manchester United, en el último lugar tras 2 jornadas y sin saber si Cristiano se quedará o no.

Serie A

El Milán ganó la liga el año pasado (su primera en 11 años) más por las caídas de la Juve e Inter que por ser espectaculares. Sin mayores figuras, difícilmente puedan repetir, más ahora que deben competir en la UCL. Inter recuperó a Lukaku, y Juventus se ganó a Di María y Pogba (gratis), por lo cual este año parece que será una lucha de 3 caballos… 4 si contamos a la Roma de Mourinho, con Dybala y Wijnaldum como fichajes clave.

European Football is back!

The big leagues in Europe have officially returned, in a peculiar season that will have to be paused for almost two months while the World Cup is played. What is the panorama in the 3 main leagues?

La Liga

After dominating the local tournament with pleasure, winning 8 out of 11 leagues between 2008 and 2019, Barcelona have now gone 3 years without lifting the La Liga trophy, and even went blank last season. However, the Catalans have a renewed squad and are in high spirits for this coming season, the first one that Xavi starts on the bench. Lewandowski, Raphinha, Koundé, Kessié, Christensen and probably Bernardo Silva suggest that Barça, at least, will be more competitive than last year.

Speaking of last season, Real Madrid, without being spectacular, won the League and the Champions League for only the second time in 60 years. With a wonderful Benzema, an immense Courtois and a strong squad, the Merengues won what they wanted and dominated the Spanish league at will. This year, without major changes, and having finished the Mbappé-drama, they continue to look like the team to beat. The rest of the teams are seen, as almost always, far from the two big ones, and hardly anyone else tickles the Catalans or merengues.

Premier League

Undoubtedly, the English championship has positioned itself not only as the highest level, but also as one of the most even. City have dominated with 4 of the last 6 titles, and now with Haa-land the expectations are even higher. Liverpool have been the main pursuers, although they have suffered the departure of Sadio Mané, with Darwin Núñez as a huge maybe.

However, this year London clubs look like they could join the party. Arsenal has started the year in excellent shape, winning all their games (including two in Orlando), and with Gabriel Jesus immediately adapting to the Gunners, who have not played in the Champions League for 6 years, but this seems to be the one they break the streak.

Antonio Conte's Tottenham had a busy summer, bringing in 6 players (Richarlison and Perisic the most outstanding) and keeping Harry Kane and Son, two world-class attackers. However, Chelsea appear to be taking a step back, losing both of their strikers (Werner and Lukaku) in the same summer, although neither made any headway at the Blues. In addition, they’re going through a process of ownership transition, and it will take time to adapt.

At the bottom is Manchester United, in last place after 2 games and not knowing if Cristiano will stay or not.

Serie A

Milan won the league last year (their first in 11 years) more because of the stepbacks of Juve and Inter than because they were spectacular. Without major figures, they can hardly repeat, especially now that they must compete in the UCL. Inter got Lukaku back, and Juventus gained Di Maria and Pogba (for free), so this year it looks like it will be a 3 horse fight... 4 if we count Mourinho's Roma, with Dybala and Wijnaldum as key signings.
