Central Florida’s National Adoption Day ceremonies unite 12 children with forever families

Nine local families have more to be thankful for when they gather around the table this year. On Friday, November 18, at Osceola County Courthouse, 12 children were united with their “forever families” as part of National Adoption Day ceremonies in Osceola County.

While adoptions happen year-round, this day was designed to raise awareness of the more than 110,000 children in foster care nationwide who are waiting to find permanent, loving families.

Embrace Families is the lead nonprofit organization overseeing foster care, adoption and child welfare services in the region. Case managers carefully match children with foster and adoptive families based on several factors, with the main goal of finding a permanent, stable solution for children who need love and nurturing. With approximately one in five children in the U.S. foster care system being teens, there is a special focus on adoptions for older children – specifically ages 8 through 18 – as well as on keeping sibling groups together.

This past weekend, Florida new House Representative for District 47, Paula Stark, has begun helping the community by providing a refrigerator to a veteran in St. Cloud. as well as participating in the Veteran's Day Parade. “Wilda Belisle, Senior VP Osceola Meals on Wheels & Dining Clubs at the Osceola Council on Aging contacted us on Veteran’s Day about one of her clients in need,” said Paula Stark, Florida House Rep., District 47. She shared with us that her client needed a new refrigerator, so we were honored to be able to step up and provide a new refrigerator to Marine Corporal Mark Cox and his wife in honor of Veteran’s Day.”
