XLERATOR: A Hygienic Hand-Drying Solution

Picture the Scene: Sicily IL, 1920, a Profile of a Family from Midax

No matter what kind of business you operate, your visitors are going to remember your restroom. How can you help ensure the best possible user experience? When it comes to hand-drying solutions in public spaces, especially high-traffic areas like convenience stores, your primary focus should be hygiene—and we can provide you with the facts to make an informed decision. Though rumors and myths exist regarding whether hand dryers or paper towels are the most hygienic hand-drying choice, a review of recent research demonstrates that hand dryers are just as hygienic as paper towels: • In their most recent recommendations, the World Health Organization (WHO) states that everyone should “frequently clean [their] hands” and “dry [them] thoroughly by using paper towels or a warm air dryer.” • In their new guidelines, the CDC states, “there is currently not enough scientific evidence to determine if using a clean towel or an air hand dryer to dry your hands is more effective at reducing germs on your hands. Both are effective ways to dry your hands.” • An independent study by the Mayo Clinic concluded “there is no difference in bacteria counts when drying with paper towels or hand dryers.” • An extensive review by the University of Arizona Health Sciences research team

Now it is 2020. Their grandsons acquired Green’s when they went out West to concentrate on the casino business. Now in Little Sicily, on one lot, the deli has since become a small grocery store, a restaurant and a gas station, now also with a truck stop at the back. They provide Petrello Fuel for all the local fleets. Petrello’s have great pizza, so have a lot of eat-in and delivery trade. They also take orders through Uber and DoorDash. Busy times over the last year or two! They do their own delivery: to trucks on the lot, to cars at the pump and local home deliveries. They discount gas for Barzini’s Grocery. So when their own customers and grocery customers come in, their mobile app tells them what specials there are in the store, so they come inside, rather than just gas ‘n go. Those smarts added 35 percent to their gas sales and 12 percent to their inside sales. They have a loyalty app, which tells them they have a free coffee and the app coupons them automatically when they buy in the store. Their customer retention is sky high. Blendtec works side by side with thousands of high-end restaurants, smoothie shops, coffee shops, professional sports facilities, and more on a daily basis. The company loves to innovate products based on what customers need, and that need has been a resounding “Reduce waste, increase speed, and save money.” Across the board, Blendtec has seen a desire to create a product worthy of these claims, and the company is proud to say it’s done it. Introducing the all-new Nitro Blending System from Blendtec, the jarless blending solution that has been absolutely disruptive in the industry. The Stealth Nitro and Stealth Nitro X blenders blend directly into the cup, leaving on average just 1 to 2 percent of waste compared to nearly 15 percent when blending with a regular blending jar. It works with plastic, paper, and even metal cups ranging from 12 to 36 ounces. Blending time has been reduced to just under 15 seconds with virtually no clean up, allowing franchises across the country to increase their daily customer count, and ultimately, their bottom line. The X in Stealth Nitro X refers to another innovation that Blendtec has applied to a select few products: the Titan X brushless motor. Compared to Blendtec’s standard blender motors that are meant to withstand hundreds of thousands of blends during the duration of its life, the Titan X motor has a lifetime of up to three times as long, and also runs cooler and quieter. Simply put, it’s the best motor on the market today. Pair the Titan

Avoid Sharing Equipment to Support Cleanliness and Hygiene Managing a professional kitchen involves ongoing assessments of risks, rewards and costs – esvpecially today, with an intensified focus on hygiene. Of the many procedures that can be put into place to support cleanliness, one of the easiest to execute is stocking multiples of essential kitchen measurement tools to avoid unnecessary sharing of equipment. A small investment with a big payout, keeping multiples of kitchen measurement tools on hand reduces the risks of cross contamination while increasing efficiency and simplifying procedures for each individual team member. “Many practices have intensified over the last year and a half, and one of them is providing employees with personal sets of essential kitchen measure-

ment tools to eliminate sharing of equipment. There are operational efficiencies here in addition to support of cleanliness goals, and we expect this trend to continue,” said Shawn DiGruccio, executive vice president of CDN. Cooking thermometers are an obvious choice for stocking multiple units, because of their repeated contact with food. Stocking multiples of one model simplifies training and quality control. The risks of cross-contamination are diminished when each individual team member has their own thermometer. For example, the CDN Cooking Thermometer (IRT220) is a classic model for foodservice operations. This NSF-Certified model is easy to use, with a 1-inch dial, 5-inch stem, shatterproof

RENAU Introduces Contactless Radar-Sensing Technology Efficiency and safety are paramount in any foodservice environment, and RENAU is taking both to the next level of performance with its exciting new line of radar sensors. RENAU’s radar sensors use shortrange radar operating in the 60GHz ISM band, an established technology proven in the defense and aerospace industries. This technology is perfectly suited for foodservice environments, including (but not limited to) the following applications:

Material recognition – distinguishes between surfaces or objects made of dif-

ferent material. Object detection – detects objects and measures their distance in real-time, even in complete darkness. Obstacle detection – helps automated equipment prevent accidents and collisions. People detection – allows devices to switch on and off depending on an individual’s presence and position. Object counting – provides a way to quickly and automatically count the objects in given areas. Liquid level detection – automatically monitors and regulates liquid level within a container and supports automat-

Another choice is the CDN Thin Tip Pocket Thermometer (DTT450), which has the added advantage of coordinating with HACCP color coding to promote food safety – Red (meat), Blue (seafood), Green (produce), and Yellow (poultry). Stocking multiples for each food category as well as multiples for use by different team members adds layers of quality control to help ensure high standards. This NSFCertified model features four-second response, 1.5mm thin tip, hold and field calibration. Timers maximize an operation’s efficiency when multiples are in use. The

grammable commercial microwave steamer has a 1.6 cu.ft. capacity to hold two full-size 4”-deep pans with 16-memory capability, five power levels, and three-stage cooking, with two top and two bottom heating elements – all with no water line.

Microwaves Heavy Duty: constructed from durable stainless steel inside and out, to meet NSF standards. Light Duty: with a “grab & go” door handle, bottom energy feed, and stainless door.

CDN Extra Big Digit Timer (TM15) is a topselling choice because it has extra big digits for easy viewing and a loud, long alarm that cannot be missed. It counts up or down by minutes/seconds, and it features mounting: three-way magnet, stand or loop. Kitchen scales is another category with high contact with food. The NSFCertified Digital Portion Control Scale (SD1114) has an 11 lb. capacity, and it features a tare function, hold, field calibration, removable stainless-steel platform and batteries/power adapter. CDN offers a full range of thermometers, timers, and scales, with options from the basic to the unique. For more information, go to www.cdn measurement.com.

STRIKE uses plug-and-play electronic components for detection, actuation, and manual pull stations, replacing stainless-steel cable, corner pulleys, fusible links, and other components where grease buildup can disable a fire system. Installation is quick, maintenance is simple, and grease is neutralized. KP with STRIKE is capable of monitoring and releasing two separate hood systems, either separately or simultaneously. This means your clients get the power and convenience of two systems for the price of one. Plus, your customers will enjoy cost-savings over the years from refilling only one agent cylinder and cleaning only one kitchen area from a partial system actuation.
