Pollution Control Products Co. Celebrates 50th Year
By Jo Simpson, President, Pollution Control Products Co.
Founded in 1923, POR Products is a nearly 100-year-old paint manufacturing company with headquarters in New Rochelle, New York. For more than 60 years, POR Products has focused on the formulation and manufacturing of polyurethane-based coatings. Providing high-quality, consistent results, POR Products’ coatings are designed for professionals, independent shops, and DIY enthusiasts, and have been utilized for everything from the wood floors of many NBA arenas to the chassis of award-winning restored classic automobiles. POR-15 is the original paint-over rust formula dedicated to the automotive aftermarket and the restoration and refurbishment of classic and soon-to-be-classic vehicles. POR-15 is non-porous and provides protection from water, chemicals, salt, and other contaminants and can be painted directly over prepped rusted surfaces.
My father, Peyton Simpson, started Pollution Control Products Co. the way most businesses get started: he saw a need and he solved a problem. The year was 1971, and a neighboring business was having a difficult time complying with the new Clean Air Act of 1970. That company rebuilt electric motors, which required that the old copper wire coil and all varnish, epoxy, paint and insulation be removed and the stator thoroughly cleaned. Prior to today’s stringent environmental laws, this was often done by soaking the motor parts in kerosene and “burning off” or “burning out” the organic material in a pit or metal container. In 1971, that was against the law. Peyton simply asked, “If I can show you how you can reclaim your old motors safely without smoke and pollution, would you be interested?” The answer was an enthusiastic yes, and the rest is history. The Controlled Pyrolysis® process and the first fully contained “pyrolysis cleaning oven” were born and a new company began:

Dee Zee Introduces Lockable Under Seat Storage
Dee Zee has expanded its product line to the interior of trucks with the release of an under seat storage drawer. Fullsize crew cab trucks offer a lot of storage below the back seat, but in many cases, the seat is usually full of humans, car seats, pets, gym bags, and whatever else gets thrown over the shoulder during a daily commute. Dee Zee can’t help organize everything on top of the seats, but the company found an innovative way to provide lockable storage that can be accessed even with the clutter. Designed specifically for F-150, Super Duty, Silverado, and Sierra, this full-width under seat drawer turns that wasted space into lockable storage. It’s even accessible with the back seats in the down position. The under seat drawer is the full width of the back seat and can be opened from either side of the cab. Simply unlock, twist, and pull. As the drawer is pulled, the lock on the opposite end acts as the stop so the drawer can’t be overextended. The 16-gauge steel

CUB Elecparts, Inc. Releases CHIMR By Augustin Leung, Vice President, CUB Elecparts, Inc.
In today’s market, safety is one of the most used buzzwords, but yet is vague in what it actually is. Safety is an important part of the market just like all of the other additions and personalization we do to our cars, trucks, motorcycles and recreational vehicles. But what does it mean to us and how to monetize on this trend whilst being socially responsible to provide the performance and quality that is expected? Where are we leaving money on the table where there is low hanging fruit? We’ll explore this with CUB, a manufacturer that designs and manufactures radar-based safety equipment. Having been in business for 42 years, CUB is a Taiwan-based company, established in 1979, and has now grown
to have a global footprint. This includes manufacturing in Taiwan and China, along with offices in the United States. “CUB has three primary pillars of business: electromechanical parts, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) solutions, and radar (ADAS) products,” states Athena Chi, CUB Group’s spokeswoman. “The radar safety product division is our newest addition to product portfolio beginning in 2016.” However, its team of experts bring decades of experience to the table with qualified personnel holding doctorate degrees, seasoned automotive experts, and proven business professionals. New from CUB include a plethora of solutions for vehicles outside the traditional markets. The channel that has huge potential due to their healthy new production and long-life cycles is the RV market. In 2020, despite being
Covercraft Introduces New Line of Multi-Layer Vehicle Covers Covercraft® has announced the introduction of a new line of custom vehicle covers featuring premium non-woven, multilayer fabrics. Covercraft has served the automotive market as the leader in innovative protection products and the new line of automotive covers expands the company’s selection to provide the most comprehensive fabric offering in the industry. “Our customers have been asking for new, multi-layer options, so we’re very excited about bringing these three new fabrics to the market,” says Erik Guldager, Vice President of Sales and Customer Service. Non-woven, multi-layer fabrics are a more traditional fabric for protective vehicle covers and have been a favorite among consumers for decades, but the supply chain saw significant reductions in availability in 2020. “Non-wovens have been scarce since the onset of
COVID, but we have worked side-byside with our fabric mills to develop new and innovative fabric solutions,” comments Morgan Ein, EVP of Sales and Marketing for Covercraft. As with all Covercraft’s custom vehicle covers, the three new automotive cover programs are all custom-fit design and produced against OEM standards to ensure a precise fit on the vehicle. Covercraft 5-Layer Indoor protects against dust and is designed for garage storage, with a perfect fabric weight that handles easily while affording maximum protection. The inner layer is an extremely soft lining to protect those fine paint finishes. Covercraft 3-Layer Moderate Climate is designed for outdoor use in moderate climates to help protect against dust and moisture. The fabric is treated for extra UV resistance and is lightweight making for easy installation and removal.

shut down for two months for the pandemic, produced 430,412 units, up 6% from 2019, while over 11 million U.S. households own an RV. One of the focuses of CUB for 2022 is the introduction of blind spot information systems for travel trailers and fifth wheels that are more cost effective and easier to install. Previously released systems included two radar assemblies and required installation on the tow vehicle; these systems are still very popular and have their own advantages. However, to address the newer and more cost-effective units that have spiked in popularity during the pandemic, CUB has released a new product called the CHIMR. CHIMR stands for Center High Mounted Radar; this means that it only Covercraft 5-Layer All-Climate Softback is destined to be the most popular outdoor car cover in the market. Providing exceptional dust, moisture and UV protection, the added soft inner liner makes this the premier all-around protective cover. The company has already seen excitement as the information has been rolled out to distributors in preparation for the launch that occurred on August 2, 2021. “Our customers were eager to flip the switch on these covers and get them in front of consumers and we have already seen a volume of orders that has us rolling out of the gate,” continues Guldager.

requires one radar to be mounted at the rear of the RV and the indicators are installed at the front of the trailer. The driver will receive information about vehicles in their blind spot when they look in their exterior side mirrors and see the indicators lit in the reflection. The benefit to this system is not only the lower price and value, but that it requires no installation on the tow vehicle. This means that the trailer is always equipped and ready to assist the driver regardless of which vehicle it is towed with. This is another industry first innovation from CUB for the RV market.

How SEMA Connects Partners that Revolutionize an Industry Automotive companies visit the SEMA Show for a myriad of reasons. Connecting with like-minded industry leaders to create revolutionary solutions that add value to aftermarket manufacturers and their consumers is not traditionally on top of that list. During the 2016 SEMA show, CARFAX® and Ceramic Pro Americas connected to begin the development of the Appearance Protection Service Reporting feature – a tool that has grown past its initial expectations. The Appearance Protection Service Reporting feature was pioneered through a collaboration with CARFAX and Ceramic Pro Americas – a San Diego-

After an initial meeting at the 2016 SEMA show, and 18 months of research, development, and beta-testing, the two companies created a data-sharing partnership that helps document installation services, cover warranties, and provide their customers with peace of mind. Each of Ceramic Pro’s protective solutions, whether it’s interior or exterior coatings or films, is backed by a warranty that is attached to the vehicle’s VIN – and thus is transferable to future owners. It allowed our network of installers to improve transparency and establish trust with their dedicated customers.”
How Ceramic Pro & CARFAX Created an Industry Standard Vehicle owners are increasingly paying attention to the overall condition of their daily drivers and precious collectible cars. This includes protective products such as professionally installed ceramic coatings and paint protection film. Benito continued to state, “Our ceramic coating and paint protection film warranties are transferable as each package is linked with the VIN. If the vehicle is sold, or relocated, the new owner can visit our website to determine which of our certified installation centers to bring their vehicle for scheduled maintenance in their area or apply Ceramic Pro products on their new vehicle.” Essentially, the program likewise
“It’s always inspiring to be at SEMA where we see many of the country’s top builders take our Chevy products and turn them into personal statements,” said Phil Zak, executive design director, Chevrolet. “The creativity and craftsmanship displayed in these vehicles is outstanding. became an indirect marketing tool for Ceramic Pro’s 3,500 auto salons. More importantly, it helped to provide Ceramic Pro customers with peace of mind, knowing that their aftermarket protective coatings and films were fully documented on their CARFAX Vehicle History Report. “Service centers that partner with CARFAX help their customers increase the value of their vehicles by publishing the services performed on CARFAX Vehicle History Reports,” said Paul Nadjarian, General Manager of CARFAX Car Care. “Including service work on CARFAX Vehicle History Reports is the perfect way for Ceramic Pros to position their shops as transparent and helpful customer advocates.” Today, nearly every major manufacturer of professional-grade nano-ceramic coatings and paint protection film in the United States utilize the CARFAX Appearance Protection Service Reporting tool, as a benefit to their dealers and customers. Benito concluded, “At Ceramic Pro Americas, we strive to be the trendsetters in our industry, and the collaboration with CARFAX is arguably the best example of putting this concept into action. There is no greater compliment than seeing our competitors benefiting from the same platform which all started with a meeting at the SEMA Show. We continue to support SEMA and look forward to connecting with the next revolutionary marketing partner this year in Las Vegas.”
