FROM OUR FRONT OFFICE to our fans Dear Generals fans, as we embark on yet another year of hockey, I’m excited for the outlook of our hockey club. This year, the expectations are higher as we continue our search for yet another championship. This season, we welcome many new and exciting young players along with many returnees, all coming together to make this year very promising. I wanted to thank all of our loyal fans for all their continued support and I look forward to seeing everyone around the rink soon!
Rocco Tullio President
I want to take this opportunity to welcome all of you to the 2023-2024 Oshawa Generals and the return of OHL hockey after a long summer. This season will be one of the most competitive campaigns we have had in several years. The Eastern Conference will be a dog fight, night in and night out. Facing the Ottawa 67’s in the first-round last season, showed us how much the game changes when the playoffs arrive. You must bring it every night. Nothing is given and everything will be earned. Make no mistake, there are no playoffs if you don’t take care of the regular season. With Derek Laxdal and his staff returning for there second season, they will be more comfortable in this environment and understand with your tremendous support comes expectations. The players playing under them for the second year should have no surprises on the demands and expectations on them. Our scouts have done another tremendous job in identifying talent for us and none more impressive then our 2023 first rounder, Owen Griffin who has begun to earn his way into the hearts of Gens fans, team mates and coaches for years to come. Our past is certainly something that all our supporters and everyone in our organization is very proud of. This season our entire focus right now is on the present. We want to have the best team possible to challenge for silverware again. Anything but your best won’t be good enough to make you a member of this Oshawa General’s was the message from training camp to now. This message remains the same. GO GENS GO !!!!!!

hockey ETIQUETTE While we score goals on the ice, our goal off the ice is to make sure all of #GensNation has the best game experience possible! We’ve made a list of some important reminders for all fans to keep in mind so that everyone’s night out is a special one.
1. WAIT FOR THE WHISTLE TO ENTER AND EXIT SEATING AREA
A lot can happen in a split second of hockey action – and we don’t want anyone to miss anything. Fans who move from their seat during play can block the view of an entire section of fans. Please wait until a whistle blows to make any move to and from your seats. QUICK TIP - There will always be extended stoppages following the first whistle after the 14:00 & 6:00 minute marks of a period (unless there is an icing, goal, or the start of a power play – just listen for the buzzer!)
2. BE MINDFUL OF THOSE AROUND YOU
Trust us, we know the games will have you at the edge of your seat, but if you lean too far forward, you’ll block the view of those around you. There isn’t a bad seat in the building, so sit back and enjoy the game!
3. KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PUCK
Things move quickly at our games, including flying sticks and pucks. Keep your eye on the puck at all times to avoid any potential injuries!
4. NON-SMOKING FACILITY
The Tribute Communities Centre is a non-smoking, no re-entry facility. Smoking of any kind, including e-cigarettes, on TCC property, is prohibited.
5. HOCKEY IS FOR EVERYONE
We don’t expect everyone to be best friends with the Petes’ fans – some things just don’t mix. But, we do think it’s pretty cool they’re coming to our building to enjoy the same great game we love. Please be aware of those sitting around you, including children and let the play on the ice do the talking. Abusive and inappropriate language will NOT be tolerated.
6. HAVE FUN
Get loud, cheer, and let your favourite team on the ice know you’re behind them – Afterall, hockey is the best sport out there.

RIMOUSKI OCEANIC - QMJHL
Well, we officially know one team competing for the 105th Memorial Cup championship. The Rimouski Oceanic were just announced as the Host team for the 105th edition of the tournament, to take place at the end of next year’s CHL season. The tournament will mark the return to Quebec after 10 years and two tournaments in the Maritimes. It also marks the first time the Oceanic will host the tournament since they hosted in 2009. This season, the Oceanic are in the midst of a winning season. After 31 games, Rimouski sits 16-13-2-0 and are tied for fourth in the Eastern Conference with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens. The Oceanic are home to top-10 point-getter in the QMJHL, 2005-born Alexandre Blais. Blais has 42 points in 31 games and is only six points back of the league point leader. PHOTO BY: RIMOUSKI OCEANIC
CHICOUTIMI SAGUENEENS - QMJHL The Chicoutimi Sagueneens are hoping this is the season they find some serious playoff success. In the last 16 seasons, the Saguenees have only advanced out of the first round on three occasions. The franchise has won a single QMJHL championship, but that was before the turn of the century in 1994. This season, the Sagueneens are right in the thick of things, tied with the Rimouski Oceanic for fourth in the Eastern Conference. Their record of 15-13-2-2 is good enough for 34 points. The major obstacle for the Sagueneens are who they share the Eastern Conference with – both the QMJHL leading Baie-Comeau Drakkar (56 points) and Maritime leading Halifax Mooseheads (45 points) The Saguenees’ offence runs through winger Maxim Masse. In 32 games, the draft-eligible 2006-born forward has 30 points, by way of 13 goals and 17 assists. PHOTO BY: STUDIO BRUNO GIRARD
MOOSE JAW WARRIORS - WHL While they’ve cooled off as of late, the Moose Jaw Warriors are still clearly at the top of the class in the WHL’s Eastern Conference. Currently third in their conference, the Warriors are 17-12-0-2 good enough for 36 points. While stuck behind the high-flying Medicine Hat Tigers and Saskatoon Blades, the Warriors have still been able to make a name for themselves despite recent struggles. Moose Jaw are winless in their last three games, dropping contests to the Saskatoon Blades, Brandon Wheat Kings, and Red Deer Rebels. Even after the loss to the Blades, the Warriors hold an edge over their provincial rivals with two more victories earlier this season, by a score of 9-6 and 3-1. The Blades are home to Seattle Kraken 2nd round pick Jagger Firkus, who again is lighting up the WHL. In just 29 games, the 2004-born forward has 27 goals and 26 assists for 53 points. PHOTO BY: MARK SMITH
PRINCE ALBERT RAIDERS - WHL While their days at the Art Hauser Centre may be coming to a close, the community of Prince Albert is getting ready for their brand new home – even if the ground breaking just happened. Over the last couple of weeks, construction has begun on a new Aquatic and Arenas Recreation Centre, which includes a brand new 4,500 seat arena for the Raiders to call home. The Raiders have played at the approximately 3,000 seat Art Hauser centre since their inception in 1971. Since then, they’ve won two WHL championships (1985,2019) and one Memorial Cup (1985). This season, the Raiders find themselves right in the middle of the Eastern Conference with 34 points. After 32 games, the Raiders are 16-14-0-2 and just two points back of the Moose Jaw Warriors for second in the East Division. Their division is led by the WHL leading Saskatoon Blades. PHOTO BY: MARK PETERSON
GUELPH STORM - OHL Another team who has maybe cooled off from a really hot start to the season are the Guelph Storm. While the Storm have still given up some of the fewest goals all season, only the 67’s has given up fewer, the offense slowly faded resulting in a lot of close games. Lately, the Storm have been finishing on the wrong end of one goal games, including their most recent loss to the Kitchener Rangers. Stuck in a strong Western Conference, the Storm have scored the fewest goals in the Western Conference with just 90. In their last four games, Guelph has only earned a single point, losing three in regulation and one in overtime. When the Storm are winning, it’s usually thanks to the stick of winger Braeden Bowman. In 30 games, Bowman has 14 goals and 16 assists. The overage forward is coming off a career-best season a year ago, where he scored 72 points in 54 games. PHOTO BY: GAR FITZGERALD
SARNIA STING - OHL The pride of southwestern Ontario, the Sarnia Sting can argue they’re the talk of the southern point of our province – but it might not come with too many bragging rights. The region, home to both the Windsor Spitfires and the Sarnia Sting, unfortunately isn’t seeing too much success. The Windsor Spitfires recently climbed out of the OHL’s basement, while the Sting aren’t too far ahead in 18th out of 20 with only 22 points. Sarnia has had a rough season to say the least, winning just 11 of their 30 games to date, with their most recent loss coming 4-1 to the Oshawa Generals. To make matters worse, the Sting have only won twice in their last 10 games and sit seven points out of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. While they haven’t given up 150 goals like their region neighbours, the Sting have struggled to score, and in their 30 games have only potted 95 goals, second worst in the Western Conference. The Sting are led by the pair of twins acquired earlier this season, Jacob and Andrew LeBlanc. The twins have a combined 54 points in just 30 games and are the heart of the Sting’s offense. player to watch OWEN GRIFFIN
The Generals’ first-round pick in the past draft got his first OHL point grabbing an assist in the team’s win against the North Bay Battalion. The rookie’s strong play of late has seen him move up the lineup, he will look to build on his form and add to his point total.
game day PREVIEW The Oshawa Generals ended 2023 with a win and look to start 2024 in the same way when they take on the Kitchener Rangers. Oshawa took down the North Bay Battalion 4-3 in overtime in their last game of the year. The Gens fell behind with just over four minutes to go, but Dylan Roobroeck played the hero scoring the tying goal in the last two minutes of regulation. Then a little over a minute into overtime Roobroeck sent the fans home tapping in a nice pass from Luca D’Amato. The Kitchener Rangers come to town as the best team in the Ontario Hockey League, also having won their last game of 2023. Kitchener beat the Owen Sound Attack 5-2 on the road expanding their lead on the rest of the league.
Last Meeting: This is the first time these two teams are meeting this season, last time they faced off the Generals were defeated 6-4 by the Rangers. This loss kick-started an eight-game losing streak that the Gens snapped just in time to squeak into the playoffs. In that game, a couple of familiar faces picked up multi-point games as current captain Stuart Rolofs had a goal and an assist while Dylan Roobroeck picked up a pair of assists. Ultimately the Gens fell behind early giving up two goals in the first and a trio in the second, the lead was just too much clawing back to within a goal, but the Rangers found the empty net late and put the game to rest.

HUNTER BRZUSTEWICZ
Only the second defenceman in OHL history to lead the league in points at Christmas, Brzustewicz has done something no other defenceman has done in 35 years. The Vancouver Canucks prospect has already tied his career-best for points, picking up 57 points in 36 games.
last game RECAP SUNDAY, DECEMBER 31
The Oshawa Generals have closed their 2023 chapter with an outstanding performance against the North Bay Battalion this afternoon up at North Bay Memorial Gardens. Net-minder Noah Bender gained his sixth start of the season as the Generals rolled out against the Battalion with leading goal scorers Matthew Buckley and Rasmus Kumpulainen out of the lineup. Just under five minutes into the 2023 finale, the Battalion test out Bender when Owen Van Steensel intercepts a Generals pass, gives a quick tap to Anthony Romani’s tape where he then freezes Bender with a fake, and deposits the first of the game. Immediately following Romani’s 27th of the season, Generals captain Stuart Rolofs accepts a stunning cross-ice pass from Calum Ritchie, where Rolofs fires a bullet and cleans up nicely in front of the slot, tying up the game at 1-1. Following just 24 seconds later, forward Beckett Sennecke pots the third goal of the game and gives the Gens the lead they were searching for with an assist from Gens first-round pick and rookie, Owen Griffin. Not even two minutes into the second, the Generals got their first power play of the game after Wyatt Kennedy received a minor for holding. Despite a few rushes and chances, the Gens could not locate the net mesh for that safety goal. At the midway point of the game, the Generals get the opportunity to capitalize on another powerplay with their top force in the driver’s seat for most of the duration. With the majority of the play arranged in the offensive end, the Gens could still not snatch their third. Bender held a tough level of focus throughout the second with an essential save with three minutes left as Battalion’s Jacob Therrien made a beeline to the net with an overwhelming amount of space in front of him. The Battalion came out of the gate red hot for the concluding 20 when Dalyn Wakley successfully submitted the wrap-around, equalizing the score at 2-2. Trailing after that quick momentum change and just 4 minutes left, Ethan Procyszyn grabs his 9th of the season and sends the Battalion up 3-2. With less than two minutes left on the clock, the troops call their timeout and give the boys a quick reset before the home stretch. From there, with 1:18 remaining, Dylan Roobroeck steps up in the clutch after a tic-tac-toe play as he sends it straight into the back of the net, carrying the game into overtime. The Generals surely remained cool, calm, and collected during the final OT push as with 3:51 on the clock they sealed the deal. A perfect in-zone entry by D’amato paired with a flawless back-door execution by Roobroeck, the Generals wrapped up their final game of the season with a 4-3 win.

Giving back has always been important to my family and me. Starting The John Tavares Foundation was something we talked about for a long time, and is something I’m incredibly proud of. The foundation is centered on coming together to ensure the next generation has access to healthy foods, an understanding of the benefits of movement and increased availability of mental health resources. IN MEMORIAM On July 30th, the entire Oshawa Generals organization and family was devastated with the news of the passing of long-time scout Michael ‘Craiger’ Craig. Michael unfortunately lost his battle with a rare form of colorectal cancer. Craiger, as he was known around the rink, was a scout with the Generals’ organization for Eastern Ontario for more than 15 years. He scouted players such as Will Petschenig, Daniel Altshuller, Serron Noel, William Ennis, and current General Matthew Buckley – just to name a few. Michael was also a part of the 2014-2015 Memorial Cup Championship run. Throughout his career on and off the ice, Michael selflessly helped and assisted so many students, Special Olympic athletes, OHL and minor hockey players – touching and enriching countless lives.
MIKE CRAIG 1976-2023
The entire Oshawa Generals organization continues to send their love to entire Craig family, his students, and all of the players who he crossed paths with.
trio of generals NAMED TO 2024 chl/nhl top prospects game
In partnership with the Ontario Hockey League and Canadian Hockey League, the Oshawa Generals are proud to announce Generals forward Beckett Sennecke, and Generals defencemen Ben Danford and Luca Marrelli have been named to the 2024 Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game on January 24th, in Moncton., N.B. In the preliminary NHL Central Scouting rankings back in October, Sennecke received an ‘A’ rating (projecting to be a first-round selection), while Danford and Marrelli received a ‘B’ rating (projecting a 2nd/3rd-round selection).
Sennecke, the Toronto, Ont., native was one of the Generals’ first-round picks in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection, taken eighth overall. In his rookie season a year ago, Sennecke finished second in league rookie scoring, behind only exceptional status player Michael Misa of the Saginaw Spirit.
Danford, from Madoc, Ont., was the Generals’ second first-round pick in the 2022 draft, after receiving a compensatory pick for a previous non-committed pick. Danford was selected 11th overall at the OHL Priority selection. In his rookie campaign, Danford appeared in 63 games for the Generals, scoring four times and adding 17 assists from the blue line.
Rounding out the trio of teammates representing the Generals is defenceman Luca Marrelli. The Toronto, Ont., native was taken in the 5th round, 81st overall at the 2021 OHL Priority Selection. As a late birthday, Marrelli has now played two full seasons with the Generals. In 2021-2022, his rookie year, Marrelli appeared in 62 games and tallied 12 assists. Last season, he played in 58 games, but scored five goals and added 23 assists for 28 points.

TAKES ON WORLD JUNIORS
The Oshawa Generals are proud to announce that a member of our stellar forward core, Rasmus Kumpulainen, has been selected on Team Finland’s final roster for the World Junior Hockey Championship (WJHC) in Sweden. The Finnish Ice Hockey Association announced the final team roster after the World Cup camp period. Kumpulainen will be wearing #18. The Lahti, Fin., native has been an offensive force for the Generals during the first half of the season. Meeting 27 games with 27 overall points, he has acquired 14 goals and 13 assists. Before joining the Generals via the 13th overall selection at the 2023 CHL Import Draft, Kumpulainen had his NHL dreams come true. On June 29th, Kumpulainen heard his named called at the 2023 NHL Entry Draft in Nashville, Tenn. The Minnesota Wild selected the 6.02 centre with the 53rd pick in the 2nd round.
Internationally, Kumpulainen has represented Finland on three other occasions. In 2021-2022 he made 13 appearances for his country at the U17 level. At the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, Kumpulainen appeared in five games, and scored five points by way of two goals and three assists. Finally, Kumpulainen has made six appearances with the Finnish U20 team, adding four assists to his international resume. All in all, Kumpulainen has made 40 appearances dawning his Finnish flag, scoring 10 goals and 15 assists. “Ras being selected to play for Finland is an absolute credit to him as a player and the work the coaches have put into his season so far,” said team General Manager Roger Hunt. “I think him playing in North America will certainly enhance his opportunities with the Minnesota Wild and we wish him all the best with this opportunity but can’t wait to see him in the second half of the season for the Gens.” The Oshawa Generals organization would like to congratulate our very own and wish him the best as he competes for gold.
