FROM OUR FRONT OFFICE to our fans
Dear Generals fans, as we embark on yet another year of hockey, I’m excited for the outlook of our hockey club. This year, the expectations are higher as we continue our search for yet another championship.
This season, we welcome many new and exciting young players along with many returnees, all coming together to make this year very promising.
I wanted to thank all of our loyal fans for all their continued support and I look forward to seeing everyone around the rink soon!
Rocco Tullio
PresidentI want to take this opportunity to welcome all of you to the 2023-2024 Oshawa Generals and the return of OHL hockey after a long summer.
This season will be one of the most competitive campaigns we have had in several years. The Eastern Conference will be a dog fight, night in and night out. Facing the Ottawa 67’s in the first-round last season, showed us how much the game changes when the playoffs arrive. You must bring it every night. Nothing is given and everything will be earned. Make no mistake, there are no playoffs if you don’t take care of the regular season.
With Derek Laxdal and his staff returning for there second season, they will be more comfortable in this environment and understand with your tremendous support comes expectations. The players playing under them for the second year should have no surprises on the demands and expectations on them. Our scouts have done another tremendous job in identifying talent for us and none more impressive then our 2023 first rounder, Owen Griffin who has begun to earn his way into the hearts of Gens fans, team mates and coaches for years to come.
Our past is certainly something that all our supporters and everyone in our organization is very proud of. This season our entire focus right now is on the present. We want to have the best team possible to challenge for silverware again.
Anything but your best won’t be good enough to make you a member of this Oshawa General’s was the message from training camp to now. This message remains the same.
GO GENS GO !!!!!!

While we score goals on the ice, our goal off the ice is to make sure all of #GensNation has the best game experience possible! We’ve made a list of some important reminders for all fans to keep in mind so that everyone’s night out is a special one.
1. WAIT FOR THE WHISTLE TO ENTER AND EXIT SEATING AREA
A lot can happen in a split second of hockey action – and we don’t want anyone to miss anything. Fans who move from their seat during play can block the view of an entire section of fans. Please wait until a whistle blows to make any move to and from your seats.
QUICK TIP - There will always be extended stoppages following the first whistle after the 14:00 & 6:00 minute marks of a period (unless there is an icing, goal, or the start of a power play – just listen for the buzzer!)
2. BE MINDFUL OF THOSE AROUND YOU
Trust us, we know the games will have you at the edge of your seat, but if you lean too far forward, you’ll block the view of those around you. There isn’t a bad seat in the building, so sit back and enjoy the game!
3. KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PUCK
Things move quickly at our games, including flying sticks and pucks. Keep your eye on the puck at all times to avoid any potential injuries!
4. NON-SMOKING FACILITY
The Tribute Communities Centre is a non-smoking, no re-entry facility. Smoking of any kind, including e-cigarettes, on TCC property, is prohibited.
5. HOCKEY IS FOR EVERYONE
We don’t expect everyone to be best friends with the Petes’ fans – some things just don’t mix. But, we do think it’s pretty cool they’re coming to our building to enjoy the same great game we love. Please be aware of those sitting around you, including children and let the play on the ice do the talking. Abusive and inappropriate language will NOT be tolerated.
6. HAVE FUN
Get loud, cheer, and let your favourite team on the ice know you’re behind them – Afterall, hockey is the best sport out there.

QUEBEC REMPARTS - QMJHL
The reigning Memorial Cup champions marked the fourth straight CHL title for the QMJHL. The last non-QMJHL team to win the Memorial Cup were the Windsor Spitfires in 2017. The Remparts return valuable championship talent and experience in playoff standouts Mikael Huchette and Kassim Gaudet. Eric Veilleux takes over behind the bench following the retirement of Patrick Roy.
ROUYN-NORANDA HUSKIES - QMJHL
It’s no surprise the CHL had the Huskies atop their preseason CHL rankings. A busy team in the offseason, the Huskies brought in the likes of 2020-21 QMJHL Offensive Rookie of the Year Antonin Verreault and a pair of Memorial Cup champions in defenseman Jérémy Langlois, and goaltender William Rousseau. 41-goal scorer Daniil Bourash also returns for the CHL’s top-ranked Huskies.
WENATCHEE WILD - WHL
A new era of Wild hockey starts this season –literally – they just moved across the west from Winnipeg to Washington. The franchise starts their new beginnings in the US after back-to-back 50+ win seasons. The team came within three wins of a WHL Championship last season, dropping the final series 4-1 to the Seattle Thunderbirds. Wenatchee’s first-ever roster could feature as many as three first-round NHL draft picks with Benson, Conor Geekie and Matthew Savoie all eligible to return from their NHL Clubs.
PORTLAND WINTERHAWKS - WHL
The Winterhawks are coming off their sixth straight full season with at least 40 wins. Despite bowing out of the WHL Playoffs in just the second round at the hands of the Saskatoon Blades, the Winterhawks are poised to contend in 2023-2024. Portland returns key contributors in all areas of their roster this season including captain and 2022-23 scoring leader Gabe Klassen. He is one of four returnees (James Stefan, Luca Cagnoni, Jack O’Brien) to record 55 or more points last winter.
BRANTFORD BULLDOGS - OHL
You read that right, the Bulldogs now officially call Brantford home -or at least for the next three seasons. Despite owner Michael Andlauer’s business a few hours east with his purchase of the Ottawa Senators, the Bulldogs are poised to once again be the talk of the OHL. Winners of two of the last four OHL championships, the Bulldogs bring could-be league best Nick Lardis with them to Brantford. Lardis 25 goals, 21 assists and 46 points in 33 games with the Bulldogs and was selected in the third round by the Chicago Blackhawks
PETERBOROUGH PETES - OHL
Defending your OHL Championship is something not too many teams get a serious shot of doing, and in the early stages it might be a tall task for the reigning champs. The Petes lose a laundry-list of their best players from their championship run including J.R. Avon, Avery Hayes, Brennan Othmann, Tucker Robertson and captain Shawn Spearing. While they may not contend, the Petes likely won’t be pushovers in the East either, returning key players such as Konnor Smith and goaltender Michael Simpson.

STUART ROLOFS
The OA forward was just recently named the 71st captain in Generals history, but wasn’t able to get on the board Friday night in Kingston. A season ago, the Carp, Ont., native scored 32 goals and the Generals will need him to do that again and more this season if they want to compete in the Eastern Conference this year.
PREVIEW game day
The Oshawa Generals gear up for their 2023/24 home opener as they host the Kinston Frontenacs at Tributes Communities Centre on Sunday at 6:05 p.m.
The Gens are looking to rebound after dropping Friday night’s season opener, and the first part of a homeand-home, to the Frontenacs.
Oshawa are looking to win their first home opener since the 2019/20 season.
Off the ice, there is quite the day planned to kick off the season.
Starting at 3 p.m. there will be a block party outside of Gate 1, with Two for the Show playing live at 3: 30p.m.
#GensNation can also catch the players on the red carpet as they arrive at the rink.
Puck drop is scheduled for 6:05p.m. at the Tribute Communities Centre and can be watched on RogersTV Durham and or OHL TV. Rather listen? Host Jack Moore has you covered on mixlr.com/oshawagenerals.
Last Meeting:
Oshawa opened the scoring in the first when Ryder McIntyre got on the scoresheet just two minutes into the game, as Tristan Delisle picked up his first OHL point with an assist.
The Frontenacs levelled it early in the second and would take their first lead later in the period.
But before the end of the period, Dylan Roobroeck would wrist one five-hole tying the game up entering the second break.
In the third, it was the Frontenacs closing the game out. Nathan Poole would score, and Kingston would add an empty netter winning the game 4-2.
The home scheduled gets underway as the Gens look to get themselves into the win column.
After a disappointing Friday night, the Gens will need to stay out of the box, and capitalize on the chances given to them by their opponents. In the end, it was penalty trouble that cost the Gens two points in Kingston.
The Generals outshot the Frontenacs all night on Friday, but were unable to solve Mason Vaccari more than twice. After back to back starts, it’s unclear if Vaccari will start his third game of the weekend for Kingston.

ETHAN MIEDEMA
In both games the Frontenacs have played to start the year, Miedema has been involved on the scoresheet. Aqcuired in the Shane Wright trade a year ago, Miedema has been the quick solution for what was a struggling offence. In two games, he’s already leading the Frontenacs with two goals and assist. Oshawa will need to shut him down to earn their first victory.
RECAP last game
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 29
With high optimism, the Oshawa Generals went into Leon’s Centre in Kingston hoping to start the 2023-2024 season with two points. Unfortunately for them, the Generals ran into a hot goaltender in Mason Vaccari and left empty-handed with a 4-2 loss.
It was the Generals who drew first blood on Friday night. Alternate captain Ryder McIntyre opened the scoring just two minutes into the opening period. Tristan Delisle assisted on the goal, earning his first career OHL point on his first-ever OHL shift!
There were no other goals in the opening 20 minutes, as both Jacob Oster and the aforementioned Vaccari stood tall. Oster stopped all 11 shots he faced, while Vaccari turned aside 14/15.
The second period is when the Frontenacs found their footing. Just a few minutes after the puck dropped, Kingston rookie Tyler Hopkins beat Oster clean to tie the game. It was Hopkins first career OHL goal. Shortly after the goal, Generals rookie Tristan Delisle awkwardly took down a Kingston player in the Generals zone. After a review, referees determined Delisle would be ejected from the game for a major-slewfooting. Oshawa stayed strong and killed off the entire five minute Frontenacs power play.
Later in the frame, with the Generals killing a Thomas Stewart penalty, the Frontenacs were able to capitalize. On the man advantage, Kingston got their first lead of the game thanks to a shot from Jacob Holmes.
Before the second period could come to an end, New York Rangers prospect Dylan Roobroeck stole the puck from a falling Frontenacs player, pushed into the offensive zone, and wristed home his first of the season through Vaccari’s five-hole - sending both teams to the dressing room tied 2-2.
Kingston got the last laugh in the third and final period, scoring the go-ahead goal on a fortunate bounce that landed on Nathan Poole’s stick, right in front of an empty net. Despite a late push, an intercepted pass in the Kingston slot was thrown down the entire ice surface and into the Oster-less net. Up 4-2 with just 30 seconds to go, the game was all but over.
With the 4-2 win, Oshawa fails to win their season opener, while Kingston quickly rebounds from their firstgame loss on Thursday. The two teams are both off on Saturday, before clashing all over again on Sunday night in Oshawa, for the Generals home opener.
Starting The John Tavares Foundation was something we talked about for a long time, and is something I’m incredibly proud of. The foundation is centered on coming together to ensure the next generation has access to healthy foods, an understanding of the benefits of movement and increased availability of mental health resources. We hope to positively impact as many children and communities as possible to create a brighter future for everyone.

IN MEMORIAM
On July 30th, the entire Oshawa Generals organization and family was devastated with the news of the passing of long-time scour Michael ‘Craiger’ Craig. Michael unfortunately lost his batter with a rare form of colorectal cancer.
Craiger, as he was known around the rink, was a scout with the Generals’ organization for Eastern Ontario for more than 15 years. He scouted players such as Will Petschenig, Daniel Altshuller, Serron Noel, William Ennis, and current General Matthew Buckley – just to name a few. Michael was also a part of the 2014-2015 Memorial Cup Championship run.
Throughout his career on and off the ice, Michael selflessly helped and assisted so many students, Special Olympic athletes, and OHL and minor hockey players – touching and enriching countless lives.
1976-2023
The entire Oshawa Generals organization continues to send their love to entire Craig family, his students, and all of the players who he crossed paths with.

BOOSTS OSHAWA GENERALS
Last season, the Oshawa Generals found themselves in a fight for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference until the final week of play. Fortunately enough, some timely wins meant the team squeezed into the postseason – by a single point.
They were met with the formidable opponent, and league leaders, the Ottawa 67’s. A five game series saw the Generals bow out of the playoffs, ending the season sooner than many ever want it to end.
Despite the early end, there was one diamond in all the rough – a sixth overall pick.
The Oshawa Generals used their sixth overall selection at the 2023 OHL Priority Selection to draft forward Owen Griffin from the York-Simcoe Express.
The Markham, Ont., native joins now teammates Beckett Sennecke, Ben Danford, and Calum Ritchie as recent first round selections by the Generals.
“Getting drafted by Oshawa was so exciting,” said Griffin. “The first thing I thought that day was ‘I just can’t wait to get to Oshawa and meet the rest of the team.”
Well, it didn’t take long for Griffin to fit right in both on and off the ice.
His skills on the ice were no surprise to anyone who followed him last year though. In the 2022-2023 season with the York-Simcoe Express, Griffin played 35 games, scored 51 goals, and added 43 assists for 94 points. His totals were good for 2.7 points per game.
Ahead of the 2023 OHL Priority Selection, Griffin was described as one of the smartest and most skilled centers from this year’s draft class. He makes everyone around him better as he puts the puck in areas where they will be successful.
His smarts and skill were on full display during the 2023 preseason schedule. Griffin finished exhibition play at the top of the team’s leaderboard with five points in four games. He also finished among top of the rookie scoring leaderboard.
With a young, but exceedingly skilled group of players, the addition of Griffin to the lineup should mean the Generals are not only taking a step forward from last season, but one step closer to being true contenders among the best of the OHL.
