2020-2021 SEASON THE CURTAIN RISES AGAIN
unstoppable ENTERTAINMENT Friends,
has a new meaning.
What a time this is. Broadway is closed until 2021, titans of entertainment are filing for bankruptcy, artist tours and festivals are not happening, and performing arts organizations of all kinds are all trying to figure out on a daily basis how to keep going and employ anyone they can in the field. The arts sector was the first to collapse (and it was brutal) and will be among the last to be able to come back. It is time.
If I’ve learned anything in my sixteen years as Director of The Grand Oshkosh, it is that we are resilient—as an organization, as a staff, as volunteers, and as supporters like you. Together, we survived the Great Recession of 2008-09 and the closing of The Grand for repair in 2009-10—at the same time. Together, we have triumphed, laughed, cried, struggled, and survived, together. And so it will be with this pandemic. The Grand closed on March 14—and was online with “The Grand at Home” programming by March 20. Our staff have been warriors—creatively navigating through this, and working on ways to move forward. All Grand-presented shows have been or will be rescheduled. With your help, we are finding our way through. And, if the circumstances allow—we will begin again, slowly, on September 12. Yes, there will be reduced and distanced audiences. Yes, there will be face masks. Yes, there are dozens of policies and changes, designed to keep everyone safe and comfortable. Yes, the schedule for fall is light. Yes, it will feel different, and for who knows how long. But the plan is to begin again, as we did in August 2010. I know, and you know, that this is an ever-changing crisis, and of course, circumstances may change. But, for every Plan A, we have a Plan B. In some cases, a Plan C. If there is a way to safely provide entertainment and educational programming to the Fox Valley, we will find it. That’s my pledge. Now, we come to your part. It is an absolutely terrifying time to sit in my chair, and we depend now, as we did in 2009, in fact more than ever, on your support, to make it through. If you can purchase tickets, please do. If you can donate, please be generous. If you can help as a sponsor, please contact me. Even as we come out of the dark summer, the metrics of creating programming in a (currently) 223-seat theatre are very, very different. I’ve committed to not adding a “COVID charge” to raise ticket prices. The gap can only be filled by donations and sponsorship. So, onward we go on this roller-coaster with no seatbelts. Our team is moving forward, creatively discovering our way, learning new phrases like “electrostatic cleaning” and “streaming pay-per-view”, and standing ready to face any unknown challenge that may lie ahead.
Please join us. United We Grand! Thank you for all your support. I hope to see you soon—online and at the theatre!

*Schedule is subject to change and expand! We will continue to update this digital brochure, but add-ons and adjustments will also be listed at thegrandoshkosh.org.
How we are adjusting to keep you safe Our goal is to give you a sense of safety and well-being as you return to The Grand. Here are the guidelines we are following as we welcome you back to our historic theater!
Seating capacity will be reduced from 554 to 223, keeping a minimum of 6 feet between occupied seats. The Grand will have this reduced seating capacity through at least January 31, 2021, when we will reevaluate as needed. A methodical cleaning process will occur between every show and every transaction at the box office. The auditorium and other public spaces will be sanitized with an electrostatic sprayer. Partitions will be installed between each box office window. Hand sanitizer stations will be available throughout the building. Face masks will be required for staff, volunteers, and patrons. Prior to every performance, Grand employees and volunteers will undergo health screenings, including temperature checks. Interior doors will be propped open wherever possible. High contact areas, like coat check and drinking fountains, will be unavailable for use. Instead of paper programs, digital playbills will be available on your mobile device.
PLEASE READ THOROUGHLY BEFORE WE REUNITE AT THE GRAND We are thrilled to open our doors again, but we need your help to create a safe environment at the theater. Please read through these steps so we're all on the same page!
before you arrive... Purchase tickets in advance. At each performance, the box office will be open for will-call only. (No walk-up sales). Please order tickets online, via phone, or at the box office ahead of time. The box office phone order fee will be waived to accommodate this change. (Save 15% with the early bird discount through Labor Day Weekend!) If you are experiencing any symptoms, please stay home. If you are feeling sick, please email info@thegrandoshkosh.org to discuss your refund options. While cash will be accepted, we urge you to use lowcontact payment options. Please consider using credit or debit cards while purchasing tickets or beverages at The Grand. You will be able to swipe your own card at the box office. Bring a face mask to wear. You can remove your mask to enjoy a beverage once seated. If needed, masks will be available onsite (free-will donation optional to cover costs). Prepare to physically distance while waiting in potential lines at the box office, auditorium, bar, or restrooms.
at the granD... If you pre-purchased tickets, enter the lobby where ushers will explain the new traffic flow. Instead of tearing your ticket, ushers will mark them with a writing utensil to reduce contact. If your tickets couldn't be mailed in time, stop by the box office first to pick up your tickets at will call. Some shows may not have an intermission. Be sure to grab a beverage from The Grand Lounge before heading to your seat!
IN THE GRAND LOUNGE... Please observe the traffic flow for separate order and pickup areas. The menu will be limited to premixed/single-serve cocktails, beer, and wine. All drinkware will be disposable. Elevator use should be limited to one household at a time to maintain a physical distance between patrons. The stairwell to the Lounge will be open.
after the performance... Please exit in an orderly fashion while maintaining a physical distance. After each performance, both lobby doors will act as exits. The Grand Lounge and historic lobby doors will also be available as exits. Avoid crowding and congregating in common areas. For now, there will not be artist meet and greets or merchandise in the lobby. We will direct you to online opportunities to buy merchandise. Please dispose of any trash upon exiting the theatre. Thank you for this consideration of our staff and volunteers!
