SHOW TIME!
W
hat a great time to ride. That fresh fall air is something to look forward to, and there’s always a lot to do over the next few months. Over the next 4 weeks it seems we have more Powersports shows, swaps and rides then we’ve had in the last 4 months. Fall is a different time to hit the trails, even my wife loves to come out. With the leaves all changing color, the cooler temperatures, no bugs, it’s a refreshing change and we tend to get in as many rides before the really cold weather as we can. If you are thinking of a new side-by-side, ATV, Gear or accessories, then you need to check out the 32nd Annual Toronto

POLARIS WINS TWO CLASSES AT THE INNAUGURAL SCORE BAJA 400
Polaris factory driver Wes Miller and co-driver Donny Powers from Bomb Squad Racing, won the Pro UTV Forced Induction Class at the SCORE Baja 400 and completed the single loop 400 mile race in 10 hours and 49 seconds. Miller’s Bomb Squad Racing brought home the win over the weekend with four Polaris RZR drivers finishing in the top five of the Pro UTV Forced Induction class. Kaden Wells and co-driver Travis Wells won the Pro UTV NA class. Wells had a rough start through some deep whoops in the first section that threw his machine off course, hitting a tree and sticking a broken branch through the right rear tire sidewall. After performing a quick tire change, Wells was back on course running fast. At mile marker 180, Wells got car sick but was able to battle through it for 50 miles until handing over the wheel to his father, Travis Wells, who brought the machine home for the win. The victory places Wells first in the series points standings. “The SCORE Baja series is one of the most challenging single-loop races in all of off-road racing, so to have our team bring home two wins at this inaugural 400 event speaks volumes to their hard work, preparation and ability to overcome the rugged terrain,” said Kyle Duea, Vice President of ORV Marketing for Polaris Off-Road. “We celebrate the wins, but know our teams quickly move on and begin to prepare for the next race.”

Hay Days
Last month our crew from ATV World packed up and headed out to the 53rd Annual Hay Days in North Branch, Minnesota. Hay Days started off as a snowmobile only event but since the early 2000s it has transformed in to a great off-road show. There are lots of off-road exhibitor booths, swap booths and events like freestyle, side-by-side racing and mud racing. If you have never made your way to Hay Days, maybe it’s time that you put this September event on your to do list.
Finntrail had their latest and greatest on display, and with the recent wet and cold weather, Finntrail had the perfect gear.
Bikeman Performance always brings everything to Hay Days. 30

There were more 3-Wheelers for sale at Hay Days then ever before.
More of the abundant sweat-filled used boot market. Words of advice, if it’s old footwear and it’s for sale, it’s probably safe to say they’re junk.
It wouldn’t be Hay Days without mini donuts.
It was good to see that Bubba’s BBQ made the trip this year. Their pulled pork sandwiches were almost Myron Mixon smoked quality.
This is what many swappers brought to North Branch…a trailer full of S#!%. You’d be surprised of what can sell at the swap.

KODIAK
KODIAK BEAR
Known as the Kodiak brown bear, or the Alaskan brown bear, located in the the group of islands south of Alaska called the Koidak Archipelago. The Kodiak is recognized as the largest species of brown bear, and is the largest bear alive today. A large male can reach a height of 10ft. tall when on his hind legs, and 5ft. when on all fours. The Kodiak can weigh up to 1,500 pounds, almost the same weight as a performance UTV! The oldest known Kodiak bear was 34-years old. During the winter months, Kodiak Bears can sleep/hibernate for up to 8-months without eating or drinking.
YAMAHA KODIAK
Since the production of the first Yamaha Kodiak back in 1993, Kodiak has been one of the top dogs to take into the back Forty! In 1993, the first Yamaha Kodiak started out as a 4x4, 400cc 5 speed, and later was increased to 450cc and 700cc models. In 2018, Yamaha introduced an all new Kodiak 450 and Kodiak 450 EPS, making it a true mid-size ATV with real world technology. With over 26 years of production and three engine models, (since 1993) Yamaha has capability, comfort, and confidence that speaks volume to what Yamaha brings to the market.
KODIAK TRUCK
General motors developed the Chevrolet Kodiak from 1980 to 2009, and during that time had three generations of the Kodiak. The Kodiak was designed to be the truck that’s in between big-rigs and small duty trucks. A perfect setup for a race rigs, ambulances, delivery trucks, and utility style vehicles. The first generation Kodiak came in 2 and 4 door models, with a caterpillar 10.4L turbo diesel V8, or a 6.0l big block gasoline engine. The third generation came with a 6.6L Duramax, 7.8L LG4 Diesel, and an 8.1L L18 V8 gasoline engine to tackle anything you throw at it. In 2019, GM re-entered the medium truck segment in a joint venture with Navistar International, but with a new name Chevrolet Silverado 4500/5500 HD, which is slightly smaller than the Kodiak generation.

Safety never takes a holiday, especially at a construction site. Kodiak Boots have been around for over 100 years, starting in 1910 out of Berlin, Ontario, and has been Canada’s Boot ever since. During World War II, Kodiak supplied the Canadian Forces. In 1950, full waterproofing was innovated. During the 1960’s, steel toe work boots were established, and in 2000, Kodiak outfitted Canada’s Winter Olympic Team. Kodiak boots aren’t just for the trades, they also have a classic collection for men and women.

IF
CHANGING A CAN-AM X3 CVT CLUTCH BELT
you drive a CVT belt driven UTV, especially one of today’s big horsepower sport models, you need to be able to inspect and/or change the clutch belt in the field. While the Can-Am X3’s belt has earned a better reputation than most, it is literally a consumable item and will fail at some point in time. Removal for cleaning and inspection at regular intervals will lessen the chance of a complete failure along the trail, but as long as you carry a spare belt, all the necessary tools are provided for you in the stock tool kit, and it’s not really that difficult.
1
2
Remove the key from the ignition and the stock tool kit from the glove box. You will need the flat head screwdriver, the 13mm wrench, the T-30 Torx wrench, the clutch compression tool, and the silver clutch tool bolt.
3
4
Use the short side of the T-30 L-shaped Torx wrench to break loose the clutch cover screws, then flip it around to the long end to remove them.
5
ATV WORLD MAGAZINE • VOL 16 • ISSUE 4
Remove the clutch cover by pulling it away from the clutch, dropping the front of it down towards the ground, and then pulling it out the back and setting it aside.
6
Thread the clutch compression tool into the center of the secondary clutch. You will thread it all the way in, and then back it out to where the push bolt lands between the raised edge holes.
40
Use the flat blade screwdriver to loosen the large hose clamp, securing the clutch cover ducting hose to the clutch cover. You will have to get it pretty loose and then pull the hose up and out of the way.
Thread the push bolt through the clutch tool and into the side of the secondary. We like to use a coin to keep the pointed part of the push bolt from marring up the aluminum clutch. Use the 13mm wrench to tighten the bolt, forcing the clutch sheaves apart.

With the slack created by compressing the clutch, you should be able to remove the belt over the top and back of the secondary. You might need to spin the clutch a little to get the belt completely out of the secondary.
9
10
For inspection, you can fold the belt inside out to inspect the inside cogs and sides of the belt for excessive wear, cracking or glazing. If the belt looks good, wash it with mild dish soap and water. Be sure to rinse away any soap, and dry it completely before reinstallation.
11
ATV WORLD MAGAZINE • VOL 16 • ISSUE 4
If you’re doing this at home for maintenance or inspection, it’s a good idea to clean out both clutch assemblies and the housing with compressed air. If you’re replacing a blown out belt on the side of the trail, you need to remove any and all pieces of the old belt. Be sure to check for pieces of belt clogging up the exhaust tube.
12
Install the cleaned or new belt with the writing on top, going from left to right. Hoop it over the front primary clutch, and then roll it onto the secondary from bottom to top, exactly opposite of the way you removed it. 42
With the clutch belt removed from the secondary, you can slide it over and off the front of the primary to remove it.
Loosen the clutch compression bolt with your 13mm wrench, remove your coin and unthread the clutch compression tool from the secondary. Rotate the secondary clutch in a counterclockwise direction to tighten up the sheaves on the belt.

13 Re-install the clutch cover and all of the T-30 Torx screws. You can thread them in with the long side of the L-wrench, and then tighten them with the shorter end for increased leverage.
14 Re-install the clutch cover duct hose and tighten the hose clamp with a flathead screwdriver. We prefer to flip the hose clamp around instead of the stock assembly. This allows for easier access to the adjuster screw the next time you need to loosen it up. Replace all your tools in the stock tool kit and put them back in the glove box for the next time you might need them.

Government (i) Self-governing; independent; subject to its own laws only. (ii) Pertaining to an autonomy, or a self-governing community. Group/Organization Having autonomy; not subject to control from outside; independent: a subsidiary that functioned as an autonomous unit. Biology (i) Existing and functioning as an independent organism. (ii) Growing naturally or spontaneously, without cultivation. Of a Vehicle Navigated and maneuvered by a computer, without a need for human control or intervention under a range of driving situations and conditions: an autonomous vehicle.
As if we did not have enough acronyms already in our sport, we now may be adding AWV, (Autonomous Work Vehicle) to the list. There has been a lot of discussion around on road autonomous vehicles lately, and very little about offroad other than mining and agriculture. Well, Honda has been working on this concept for a couple of years now. I believe they refer to the vehicle as a “droid”, while in fact it is primarily the tried and true ATV chassis utilized by the Rubicon for the past couple of decades. When you look at it, immediately you see (or do not see) any seat, handlebars or operation controls that we find on a typical ATV. The tested prototype version is gasoline powered by primarily the same engine found in an ordinary ATV, while an electric version, which exists in prototype, also has been developed. You may think that this is simply a robotic work platform, but in reality, the technology used in this AWV may very well be adapted to an ATV in the not so distant future. The gasoline prototype features all-wheel drive, a GPS and sensor-based semi-autonomous drivetrain that is capable of guiding the vehicle in almost any environment, and incorporates a rail-mount system with the ability to attach and swap out numerous power accessories. It is programmable to three different driving modes. (1) A point to point from one location to another as dictated by a GPS. (2) A type of back and forth sweeping pattern as if it is hunting for something. (3) A “Follow Me” type-tracking while locked on a human or another object, like an ATV driven by a worker. The uses for this vehicle are enormous. The applications to keep humans safe in environmental, radioactive and other types of disasters are many. Take the tsunami that hit Japan and resulted with issues at a nuclear power plant. These types of work platforms could provide transport assistance into risky and unsafe situations that would be

unsafe for humans. It was tested in actual forest fire situations in Colorado with Forest Firefighters. It carried the heavy equipment of axes, water packs, waterlines/hoses and chainsaws up the steep hills. Usually the fire fighters carried this equipment; this spared the fighters from fatigue before they hit the fire line. Other areas that this vehicle has been designed for with different attachments were cutting grass, construction, carrying produce like fruit and vegetables, snow blowing your driveway while you are cozy inside your home, and of course, there would be many humanitarian and military uses in dangerous and uninhabitable environments. This past June, I was in Ottawa at a Motive Power Conference that included seminars on automated and autonomous vehicles. The main topics I found amazing were how quickly the mainstream auto manufacturers were changing their direction. The common timeline for the automotive industry’s (life as we know it) change is within five to ten years. This change will be as dramatic as when we moved from the horse and buggy to the horseless carriage known as the automobile. The changes include not only moving to automated and autonomous vehicles, but to electric vehicles. Volvo has even announced that they have stopped designing internal combustion engine-only cars this year. It is not only in personal transportation. Heavy truck transportation, mining operations, timber operations, road building, warehousing and many other industries using equipment, if they have not already changed, have started changing, and will definitely be changing more over the next few years. Unfortunately, this is the first time in human history where technology will cause a major reduction in human involvement and jobs. There will be some new professions of course, but drivers and operators will start to decline as this technology continues to evolve and be perfected. Surprisingly, the technology should be less complicated to service and repair. Modules (commonly referred to black boxes) will be identified by EST’s (electronic service tools) and simply replaced with the faulty one, either sent back for repair or disposed of. The costs associated is anyone’s guess, but as we have seen the cost of computers and electronics continue to drop, the same should happen in this case. All this technology we are surrounded with reminds me of the movie Wall-E by Pixar. I watched this movie with my Granddaughter a few
years ago. If you have not seen it, it’s definitely worth watching with your favorite youngster. It is funny, but after thinking about it, I did actually find it a little bit worrisome on how technology possibly could be the downfall of us, based on how the humans were portrayed in this movie. I guess time will tell how we fair out with what is coming. Change is inevitable. There are many smart people out there thinking stuff up. I just hope that what they think of next does not scare me too much.
Is this what awaits the human race as more and more automation takes over our lives? Hopefully we will never become completely dependent on technology.
What will fill the farmer’s days when he can simply send the tractors out into fields to plow or harvest the crops?
Volvo has developed this tractor trailer with absolutely no provision for a driver.

THE BEGINNING Nic started riding dirt bikes at the age of twelve while growing up in Stockholm, Sweden. His interest quickly turned to ATV’s shortly after moving to America with his family in 1986. His extremely broad ATV racing career saw a Mickey Thompson Main Event win, two BITD Pro Quad Championships, and almost every Super Moto Championship you could ever win on a quad. What kept Nic making it as a true “Professional ATV Racer” was involvement in the ATV portion of the Monster Jam events; “Racing” quads in front of large crowds and then becoming an ambassador/organizer for the ATV portions of the shows. This involvement led to crazy cool opportunities like driving the El Diablo, the Monster Energy truck, and a few other big name Monster Trucks in shows all around the World. 48
ATV WORLD MAGAZINE • VOL 16 • ISSUE 4
The Monster Jam shows eventually introduced Side by Side racing into the event schedule, and Nic was a shoe-in for this element of racing as well. Nic got even more serious into SxS racing in 2013, and has been competing on just about every available weekend since. He raced the WORCS series for the last five years with scattered success, including a first ever Pro Stock and Pro Production win at the same event in 2017. In 2018, he amassed seven podiums between Pro Stock and Pro Production, including a big W in Pro Stock at the Phoenix Rd. Nic finished off 2018 with a very respectable 3rd overall in Pro Production and 5th overall in Pro Stock. On top of racing the WORCS Series, Nic won a 2017 Dirt Series Championship and multiple races in 18/19.
TOGETHER WITH THE STV MOTORSPORTS TEAM AND MAIN FABRICATOR MICHA GIBSON, NIC DECIDED TO TAKE ON A CHALLENGE THAT HAD NEVER BEEN ATTEMPTED BEFORE.

THE DILEMA The 2018 WORCS racing season saw a new UTV trend emerging, as the Polaris RS1 gained in popularity among top podium finishers. The single seat UTV was smaller, faster, nimbler, and better balanced. In order to remain competitive, Nic Granlund had a difficult choice to make. Having switched from a Polaris to the Yamaha YXZ 1000R four years earlier and enjoying quite a few big wins and a Championship, switching back to a belt driven vehicle was not a very attractive idea. The thought was planted in his head, and he knew what he would be racing in 2019. Together with the STV Motorsports team and main fabricator Micha Gibson, Nic decided to take on a challenge that had never been attempted before. Leaving the drivetrain intact, they modified the Yamaha YXZ 1000R chassis into a single, center seat UTV. Both diffs, all driveshafts, the transmission, engine, intake and radiator would all stay in the original locations. The stock center console was shifted towards the right, requiring a custom built shift linkage. The stock steering column and housing, including the gauges, were also relocated to the center. Moving the foot controls required only small adjustments of the pedals to fit Nic’s 6’3” stature. Surprisingly enough, no wires, connectors, hoses or cables needed to be cut or extended whatsoever. Nic added a custom built gas tank created by Wright CNC that retained the stock fuel pump and electrical components. For increased durability, an STV billet steering rack and frame gusset kit were added, along with a bolt-in Teixeira Tech rear frame support plate.

KEEPING CHANGE TO A MINIMUM One great advantage to leaving all the main chassis components, including all of the shock and suspension pick up points in their original locations, was suspension set-up. Nic has a readily available, proven suspension set up with the LoneStar Racing long travel suspension kit, and his custom tuned Fox Shox. A plug and play suspension set up was a huge deal versus the time required to start R&D’ing from scratch if suspension points were moved around. Nic installed Demon Extreme axles in the front and Turner Cycles oversized rear axles, along with a Double E racing aftermarket, adjustable rear sway bar. Packard Performance provided a quick shift billet shifter, a complete set of cool blue anodized fender washer kits, and rear
50

differential billet support with oversized bearing. The original front and rear fenders were retained to keep the awesome look of the YXZ. The custom dash, sidepanels, roof, and number plates where powder coated blue at STV Motorsports. Inside the cab, Nic installed a lightweight NRG containment seat with the NRG six point safety harness, and suede steering wheel with a quick release. Similar to Nic’s other Yamaha YXZs, to assist in the handling, he installed a Hess Motorsports 2:1 steering quickener, a Hess rapid steer kit and a radiator override switch. Comfort is increased with a Rugged Radios helmet pumper system, and he keeps in touch with his pit crew via their 5 W digital radio, with an external antenna.
NIC HAS ALREADY HAD A FEW GOOD RESULTS IN THE 2019 WORCS SERIES BARELY MISSING THE PODIUM SEVERAL TIMES AND LOOKING FORWARD TO THE REST OF THE SEASON.

DURABILITY & PERFORMANCE For added driveshaft reliability, Nic had CryoHeat treat the front and rear diff, the main driveshaft and rear coupler. The transmission is stock, with the exception of a Hinson Racing Billet clutch basket, inner hub and pressure plate. Hinson also offers different clutch springs, depending on your horsepower and pressure needs. The engine internals are kept stock, and like his other cars, Nic utilizes the Dasa Racing Full Exhaust and Dasa ECU tune with a Dynojet Power Commander fuel management system. The Power Commander includes autotune and a Power Vision display to keep his engine running in tip-top shape. Nic only uses Torco advanced lubricants fluids in his car, and also runs Torco Race Fuels’ 112 race gas. For rolling stock, Nic uses DWT Sector and Rock N Lock wheels and GBC Motorsports tires with anything ranging from Mongrels, Dirt Commanders, and Terra Masters, depending on the terrain. He also uses the Tire Blocks’ patented run-flat system which has proved a winning combination on multiple occasions. The YXZ 1R’s look is finished up with full wrap by RevUp Graphics to showcase all of Nic’s sponsors and he uses Armor Kote Shine coating to repel mud and keep clean up time to a minimum. 52
ATV WORLD MAGAZINE • VOL 16 • ISSUE 4
Sitting in the YXZ, the first thing you notice is the ample leg room and surprisingly spacious cab (some shorter drivers might have a difficult time reaching the controls). The seat is about 1 inch higher than the stock location, but that gives you a great vantage point. The visibility from the center of the car is less obstructed, and along with the narrower sides, you almost feel like you’re sitting on top of a large ATV. Firing up the engine, you’ll hear the sweet sound of the Dasa Racing exhaust. A tap on the accelerator, and you can feel the quick response of the finely tuned Yamaha in-line triple cylinder engine. Once you put this car into gear and start moving, the lower gearing of the 2019 models is also instantly noticeable as well. On the track it handles similar to Nic’s other YXZ’s. The main difference is the car feels more agile, it reacts quicker, and by sitting in the center of the vehicle, the placement on the
track can be more precise. It’s definitely a more fun UTV to race or drive aggressively. A final mid-season addition to the build was adding Race-Driven wave rotors and pads at all four corners to improve braking reliability and efficiency. Nic has already had a few good results in the 2019 WORCS series, barely missing the podium several times and looking forward to the rest of the season. The center seat YXZ proved to be unbeatable at a recent double header round of The Dirt Series and West Coast SXS Nationals, winning multiple classes.

Polaris created the mold for this whole new class of crossover side by sides. Vehicles that could comfortably haul anything and everything you need to work all week, and still put a smile on your face while ripping trails on your days off. Based closely on the Polaris RZR S suspension platform, the 62.5” (158.7 cm) wide General came with 27 inch tires, 31.1 cm of wheel travel, and 30.5 cm of ground clearance. The President of Polaris Off Road, Chris Musso stated that “As an industry leader, they are relentlessly committed to introducing machines that will exceed customers’ expectations and advance the industry.” The new General XP 1000 and General XP1000 4 are a direct example of this, as they took a class leading machine and drastically improved them for an elevated rider experience, and unrivaled versatility. The 64 inch wide General XP 1000 has been redesigned and reengineered for outdoor adventure, with a bal56

ance between performance, workability, and all-day riding comfort. The General XP1000 is without a doubt the (XtremePerformance) entry into this crossover side by side segment that they created. Polaris’s newest edition General gets 35.6 cm (14”) of front and rear wheel travel, with wider, high clearance a-arms and premium Walker Evans Velocity shocks. This new wider suspension platform is more stable, and is said to provide greatly increased bottoming resistance and a plusher ride. The new class-leading suspension combines with 30” Pro Armor Crawler tires to create a class-leading 13.5” of ground clearance. The General XP1000’s extra inch and a half of ground clearance is critical when navigating the toughest terrain, while the improved long travel suspension provides a smoother and faster ride.
The General XP’s 3” larger tires not only increase ground clearance, but will also provide better rollout for a smoother, less active ride than the original General platform. Clutching has been developed and tuned to keep the same 1,100 lb. payload and 1,500 lb. towing capacities with the much larger tires. The XP1000 General’s get aggressive looking, redesigned, high coverage fender flares to block any additional mud or debris that the bigger tires might throw toward the driver or passengers in the cab. An aggressive looking, low profile “Sport” bumper hides factory installed Polaris Pro HD 4,500-lb winch, and new LED headlights are said to provide brighter long distance vision, while drawing less power and capping off the new front-end look.

Luxury Experience The General XP1000’s cabin gets the same bolstered and color matched seats as the previous General, but will all come with top of the line, factory-installed Stage 1 Audio by Rockford Fosgate. The General XP 1000 and XP 1000 4 both get high functioning half doors, a durable sport roof and a convex rearview mirror.
RIDE COMMAND The General XP 1000 and XP 1000 4 will both also be available with the RIDE COMMAND Factory Choice package, delivering what Polaris calls the best infotainment system in off-road. The infamous 7-inch, glove touch display will also come standard with Rockford Fosgate’s upgraded Stage 4 audio. This is the industry’s first tuned and factory installed
400watt system, with four speakers and a subwoofer kit. This latest version of RIDE COMMAND features built-in GPS that allows for mapping and the Group Ride function to work without available cell signal. Ride Command, Group Ride and follow the leader functions have proven ever so useful and desirable, with the only hold up being that
it wouldn’t work when riding outside your cell coverage area. This new GPS system can also be installed into the last few model years of Ride Command vehicles. The new General XP 1000 lineup is available in an all-new Matte Navy Blue and a Glossy Stealth Grey. The General XP 1000’s will be shipping to dealerships later this month.

most custom builders there is usually a go to part or mod used at the starting point that all other mods are based off of. For Bikeman Performance their starting point and go to mod is their own Stage 2 Bolt-On Performer Kit (B.O.P.K.). The Stage 2 B.O.P.K. includes an ECU Programmer, the Big Mo Full exhaust system, BMP blow off valve and primary and secondary clutch springs using adjustable clutch weights. B.O.P.K.
This kit has a great return on your dollar. A few benefits of this kit is the ECU programmer is that it raises the RPM to 9000 in both high and low gears, speed limit is raised to 96 MPH, and it eliminates throttle limiters, increases horsepower and torque, lowers the fan turn on-temp to 183 degrees and has a great and easy to use weather resistant display screen. Other parts the Big Mo is equipt with is the full stainless steel exhaust system, which is fully developed in house at BMP and is all made in America. The Big Mo Exhaust system allows the turbo to run 68

cooler which increases longevity of both the turbo and the exhaust valves. It also produces gains in both horsepower and torque in low and mid range power. In some ride locations noise is an issue, the Big Mo Full system is compatible with both a ‘whisper biscuit’ and spark arrestor. The primary and secondary clutch springs and adjustable weights are very important to the B.O.P.K., giving the machine more top speed, quicker back-shifting, less belt slip, and will make the unit feel more responsive overall.
BIKEMAN PERFORMANCE WANTED EVEN MORE PERFORMANCE TO PUT SOME DISTANCE BETWEEN THEM AND THE COMPETITION, THEREFOR THEY ADDED THE BIG MO TURBO MOD WHICH IS AN EASY DIRECT BOLT-ON MODIFICATION.

While most RZR Turbo S owners would be over the moon with the performance that the Stage 2 Bolt-On Performance kit delivers. Bikeman Performance wanted even more performance to put some distance between them and the competition, therefor they added the Big Mo Turbo mod which is an easy direct bolt-on modification. The Big Mo Turbo mod comes with larger injectors which increases airflow and can increase the boost to an impressive 27+ pounds. However you are now entering the need to run race fuel only with this type of boost increase. THE BIG MO TURBO MOD IS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING 27+ POUNDS OF BOOST.
BMP added a Charge Tube Kit to lower boost temperatures and to eliminate the system of blowouts and cracking when running at full boost. Another potential hazard is engine heat, however by installing the BMP Mo-Flow Water Pump impeller, this creates an additional 20% of flow at all RPMs over the stock impeller. The Mo-Flo impeller also fits into the stock housing which is a bonus and a cost saver. Further cooling is accomplished with the BMP Cyclone Clutch Cover. The Cyclone Clutch Cover reduces belt temps by up to 50 degrees.
SMOOTH IS FAST

THE TURBO CHARGE TUBE KIT WILL HELP LOWER BOOST TEMPS AND WON’T CRACK OR BLOW-OUT LIKE THE FACTORY CHARGE.
THE STAGE 2 BOLT-ON PERFORMER KIT INCLUDES A BIG MO FULL EXHAUST SYSTEM, A BULLY DOG GT OR POWER VISION LOADED WITH 2 BMP CUSTOM TUNES, BILLET DIVERTER VALVE, PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SPRINGS AND ADJUSTABLE CLUTCH WEIGHTS.
COOLING IS EVERYTHING. THE CYCLONE CLUTCH COVER DECREASED BELT TEMP AND PROVIDES CONSTANT COOLING DIRECTLY ON THE PRIMARY CLUTCH.

In order to maximize horsepower, torque and throttle response, to achieve a smooth idle, and a steadier power delivery, a Energycoil Iginition Kit was installed. This will help with the overall smoothness of this Bikeman Performance Polaris RZR Turbo S. HOW MUCH HP? When we first locked eyes with this buggy and went through the list of modifications, our first question was, “How much horsepower is this buggy producing?” Try 290+ HP (stock is 168 HP)… that’s right! If you don’t think you have the required stones to skillfully drive this 290 plus horsepower buggy, maybe start with the Stage 2 Bolt-On Performer Kit (B.O.P.K.) and gradually work your way up. WRAP IT BEFORE YOU USE IT Nothing says it’s a budget build without a custom paint and or sticker package. BMP did it right and made their custom Polaris RZR Turbo S stand out from the rest, and as soon as the shop door opened and it backed out with a Blown Concept American Flag wrap, our jaws hit the floor.

T
he last decade there seems to be a trend over the growing size of off-road vehicles. Some side-by-sides have been known to stretch the tape to an astonishing 149” long (12.4’) and 72” wide (6’). Although this may be perfect for some, it may also limit the driver’s capabilities as to where one can take a vehicle of this size, not to mention the turning radius. These factors need to be taken into consideration when going off-road. Other off-road vehicles such as ATVs allow riders to test more complicated areas, denser forests and narrower trails. However, even ATVs can be too large of a vehicle to get to where you want to go. Taking these obstacles into account, Charles Bombardier imagined the concept of the Monosonic. He designed this vehicle to operate in technical and narrow terrain where side-by-sides and ATVs may

not always be able to operate. Charles is one to think outside of the box, weighing in factors such as the environment and looking into the future. Charles pictured an electric single wheeled off-road vehicle that would have half the footprint in the wilderness. The Monosonic could be developed as a variation of the Bombardier Embrio, which was futuristic concept released in 2003. When the Bombardier Embrio was released in ’03 it wasn’t going to actually go to market for another twenty-two years - in 2025, when this type of vehicle is expected to be more desirable. The Embrio’s power was to come from a hydrogen fuel cell and could reach speeds upwards of 20 kilometers per hour. For stability the Embrio is gyroscopically balanced helping the driver stay upright while navigating tough technical trails as well as staying upright at a full stop. Based on the Bombardier Embrio, the Monosonic could create

a new type of off-road vehicle class called “Monocross”. Monocross is an exciting and challenging class of all terrain vehicle that could help introduce more people to the sport. The single wheeled Monosonic ergonomic kneeling seat, would be installed to the unit’s base with spring loaded suspension under it to absorb impacts on the trail. To move forward the driver would simply lean in that direction and for reverse, the driver would lean back to move in that direction. The same rule would apply for the driver to turn right or left. Simply lean in the desired direction and the Monosonic would react accordingly. Traction is very important for single wheeled vehicles, therefore making the tire’s tread pattern very important in the overall design. The Monosonic is a much more maneuverable off-road vehicle to explore any terrain, however it would be
Could this be an ideal on-road/off-road weekend warrior type vehicle in the future? The size would eliminate the storage issue for people living in cities, even in condos.
72

The environmental foot print would be 25% of an ATV with only one tire.
necessary to match tire treads and lugs to the conditions of the terrain. There would be a generic tire, mud, rock, sand, etc. One of the futuristic ideas of the Monosonic that Charles envisioned is that a group of two, three or four Monosonic riders could unite or lock up to each other becoming the same size as a side-by-side or ATV to cross larger obstacles or pass over more difficult terrain. One Monosonic would have lead the group and control all of the others direction while connected. This idea is similar to that of the hit cartoon from the 80’s, Voltron Legendary Defender. If you are not familiar with Voltron, it was a good vs evil cartoon and was based on three (land, sea and air) “good guy” teams featuring vehicles. When needed to fight the evilest of the evil villains, these vehicles would join forces to combine into one, to form the “Mighty Voltron”.
Two to four Monosonics could come together to cross larger obstacles much like the Mighty Voltron did before opening up a can of W.A. on the bad guys.

More than an off-road Segway of the future.
Acknowledgements The Monosonic concept was imagined in May 2019 by Charles Bombardier and designed by Ashish Thulkar, an Industrial Designer from Bangalore, India. Ashish graduated with a master’s degree from the Indian Institute of Science in 2014 and he currently works as a freelance vehicle designer.
In 2003 the Bombardier Embrio was something right out of the future and was said to be released in the year 2025. It doesn’t feel like this type of vehicle is that far off.
The Monosonic drives and steers with driver input only. Lean forward to steer forward, lean back to go in reverse. Lean left or right to go in that direction.
The Monosonic is designed to get the driver to places that a side-by-side or ATV would struggle to achieve, even if it were possible for them.

e’re enjoying the fall weather, but winter is on its way, and it’s come time to start the search for a new vehicle to tow around the machines. For some, this can be a daunting task, trying to navigate all the categories and options available, not only in the light truck segments, but also in the SUV lines, can be about as fun a digging your brain out with a dull spoon.

elying on dealership sales staff may only get you so far, but the staff should understand what you need in a wintertime tow vehicle. Without being prepared by knowing your numbers before you hit the lots, it’s is a sure way to drive home in something that drives well, but may not check all of your boxes. Looking across brands and vehicle segments, there is an endless amount of new features and options that are geared towards recreational towing. Features like integrated brake controllers, backup cameras that take into account your trailer, even intelligent reversing systems that can backup your trailer for you, can be handy features, but can also distract you from making the best buying decisions. Many of these features may or may not fit within your budget, as many seem to be only available within luxury groups. However, these things shouldn’t matter 76

when it comes down to making your core vehicle choice. Without sounding like I’m stating the obvious with another Tow Vehicle article, I wanted to hopefully give you some sound advice based on my trailer towing experience, with all types of vehicles in all types of weather. I’ve been lucky enough to tow practically everything from single axle utility trailers behind small SUVs, all the way up to 53’ transport trailers behind semi trucks. I’m not a professional driver, making my living OTR, but I do have a decent amount of experience, and I’m an avid ATV enthusiast, so I hope I can in some way can give you some advice in choosing the right tow vehicle. Or at least one capable of doing the job. To keep things simple, you need to know three things; the total weight of the tow vehicle and its load, the total weight of the trailer and its load, and the maximum combination (truck and trailer) weight
limit of the tow vehicle as specified by the manufacturer. When out shopping, its easy to get bogged down in Maximum Payloads, Maximum Towing Numbers, Gross Vehicle Weight Ratings, and Gross Combination Weight Ratings. Not to mention how these numbers can change between sub models within a vehicle family. Compound all these numbers with a sales agent itching to move a stale vehicle off the lot, and it would be easy to find yourself in the wrong vehicle platform. Getting started, you have to know the weight numbers of what you are going to carry. Beginning with the trailer you already have, or one you may be buying, take a look at VIN plate that’s usually located somewhere around the front left side of the unit. It should give you a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). This number is the maximum weight capacity the of the trailer that includes the weight of the trailer
TORONTO SNOWMOBILE, ATV & POWERSPORTS SHOW • OCT 25-27, 2019 • TORONTO INTERNATIONAL CENTRE • www.torontosnowmobileatvshow.com
atvworld atvworldmag.com
I’M NOT SUGGESTING HERE THAT EVERYONE SHOULD CLASS UP TO 1 TON DUAL WHEEL PICKUPS TO TOW 2-PLACE ENCLOSED TRAILERS. AND the load. I would suggest making the assumption that the trailer is always fully loaded, and use that number when calculating the combination weight for the truck and trailer. Figuring out the total load on the tow vehicle is a little more difficult than the trailer. Setting up a bit of a load list of everything loaded into or onto your tow vehicle can be a good place to start. Stuff on the list
should include all the potential passengers; all your overnight baggage and riding gear; spare fuel/oil; tools; miscellaneous load items; any special equipment like generators; the tongue weight of the trailer; and/or if you are in the pick-up truck market and plan on loading an extra ATV in the box of a truck or install a truck deck. Some of these items like extra fuel or baggage may be carried in the trailer, and you can adjust your list accordingly. In addition to payload, you also need to know what the vehicle weighs all on its own. This is sometimes referred to a curb weight and can change wildly with vehicle options and layouts. Adding everything up, making sure neither the tow vehicle nor the trailer are overloaded, should give you the total weight of your combination going down the road. This, in my opinion is the most important number to know, and it shouldn’t exceed the Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR) of your tow vehicle. Now… here is where trailering experience kicks in. Even if your loaded numbers don’t exceed the GCWR, I believe you don’t want to be pushing
TORONTO SNOWMOBILE, ATV & POWERSPORTS SHOW • OCT 25-27, 2019 • TORONTO INTERNATIONAL CENTRE • www.torontosnowmobileatvshow.com
their limits either. Trailering/towing at the maximum ratings is a sure way to induce a drive experience that will exercise your butt muscles. Add in bad weather and the fact that when we have our ATV’s loaded up, we are often in for long road trips into more remote areas and roads, there is just no margin for error. I wish I could give you a numerical value to put a percentage on how much you want the GCWR to exceed your load, but I can’t. Even here, variables like how often you tow, distance you expect to go, and the speed at which you like to travel come into effect. If you only plan on only one road trip a year, getting close to the maximums may be acceptable. However, if you are like me and expect to spend a good portion of the time driving with a trailer hooked up, a little more capacity can make time at the wheel a lot less stressful. I’m not suggesting here that everyone should class up to 1 ton dual wheel pickups to tow 2-place enclosed trailers. But, if you find yourself right at the top of capabilities of the ½ ton pickup class, maybe option-out of the heated steering wheel package to free up enough budget to bring home a ¾ ton truck. In the long run you will be happy you did. Going into the dealership knowing your weights, and how much time you expect to spend trailering will ensure you choose the correct class of vehicle that’s right for you. From that point, you can start thinking about option packages and luxury trailering features. My Dad always used the saying, “The tail doesn’t wag the dog”. Choosing the right tow vehicle will make sure that doesn’t happen.

What is the difference between ordinary fishing waders and FINNTRAIL ATV waders?
Off-road riding is a type of activity that tends to be much more extreme than fishing. Mud, sharp branches, and rugged ATV wheels have a severe impact on the wading gear. Ordinary fishing waders will not last very long under such aggressive conditions. To meet the rugged requirements, FINNTRAIL takes advantage of heavy-duty fabrics and materials when creating ATV & UTV waders.

FINNTRAIL waders feature additional reinforced inner leg areas, knees and seat thanks to a durable fabric with a KEVLAR outer layer. The product is cut and puncture resistant to ensure you stay dry.
The ergonomic knee was cut and designed to provide comfort while your knees are constantly bent during ATV riding.
FINNTRAIL waders feature integrated removable soft knee pads helping to protect the wearer against slight injuries by fall or impact.
Waders are equipped with durable 4 mm neoprene socks. Fully sealed seams and reinforced soles have been selected for shock-absorption and comfort. Special boots are still required.
FINNTRAIL’s boots provide strong ankle support to help protect from dislocation and injury. The reliable outsole protects the foot. The boots are high cut and feature a heavy-duty puncture resistant material.
Almost every ATV & UTV rider these days likes to take photos or videos of their friends ripping down the trails. Water, mud and dirt always gets into your pockets, and can potentially damage your expensive smartphones. At FINNTRAIL, they took care of that for us. Every customer will receive a sweet bonus! A 100% waterproof pouch!
