K, a Santa Cruz native, creates work consisting of intentional lines in an
illustrative style. The artist works mostly in black ink. K’s work recasts previously envisioned women from different perspectives. Her art, bold and expressive, pays homage to starlets bound by faulty narratives, intertwines new and old conceptions of femininity and womanhood, and captures the classic horrors of cinema.

ELLIE ZUPANCIC is a visual artist and writer from Le Claire, Iowa and currently works in Iowa City. Specializing in painting and canvas-work, her visuals are largely line-art with vivid, hyperrealist colors. The majority of Zupancic’s work showcases themes of identity, self-perception, and womanhood. Her pieces often encapsulate herself, both as the artist and the subject, straddling the nebulous lines between realism and idealism, here and there.

ZOE BUTLER invokes surrealist and geometric modes throughout her art. Her work emphasizes the human face as the building block of other creation, morphing geometric ideas into expressive characters. As a result, her work excels in capturing an indescribable emotional state, which feels deeply humanist alongside its surreal and bewildering exterior.

OLIVIA LUSALA’s art is layered with femininity and expression. The Iowa City-born artist works with a mixture of elegance and youthfulness in each of her pieces. Working largely with fashion and photography, her other forms of visual art embody an important attention to aesthetics and beauty, as well as formal specifics like tone, balance, and color. As an artist, Lusala’s work teeters between the restrained and the bold in tone and content, creating dissonant yet connective pieces.

HARRY MANALIGOD positions himself throughout history, recreating
and reworking the most iconic works and artists with his singular energy. Juxtaposing death against life throughout his vibrant works, which are dyed with coffee grounds, Manaligod allows the Christian “memento mori” to focus his creative aim. Manaligod’s art hyperfocuses the claim that death and life are inseparable within art, history, and the present in which he finds himself today.

hpk, from Davenport, Iowa, is a visual artist and writer whose work tends to veer toward unconventional subjects. From merely celebrating the uncelebrated to cultivating the absurd, hpk’s art is deeply personal and drawn from a strong emotional landscape. Incorporating her writing with art and graphics, she maneuvers through heavy designs with a high degree of aesthetics and balance.

CLAIRE WATERMAN ‘s ink drawings feel as if they could have come straight
from her sketchbook. Her pieces range from the playful to the personal. Working with satire and surrealism, Waterman’s art is clean and contained without feeling manufactured. Her other work often draws together inspiration from poets and writers, often women, and weaves together themes of preservation, continuance, and strength.

JACOB POLHILL, originally from Rockford, Illinois and now
operating in Chicago, specializes in imbuing a new sense of reality and normalcy into his art. His work is experimental, yet fundamentally based on an honest depiction of the people, places, and things around him. Built from his own determination, Polhill’s art often combines the cartoonish with the classic, often revisioning famous artwork or cultural iconography for his own style.
