Milan ,,
It would seem as if fashion should never end in this land of leather and pasta
Milan Fashion Week A/W 2011
,,
Italy is home of Gucci, Prada, Cerutti, Biagotti, Salvatore Ferragamo and many more. As you fly into Linate airport in Milan, Giorgio Armani welcomes you on a Hollywood lit billboard. It would seem as if fashion should never end in this land of leather and pasta. But during August, the natives go on a month long holiday named Ferie, a time when the city of Milan literally shuts down.
f
or a true Westerner, the concept of closing down any business for a month is unheard of and silly. For Italians it is a tradition to leave the big cities like Milan, Firenze and Rome and go to their family beach houses on the coasts. Capri, Monaco, Toscana, Sardegna, Sicilia and Pulia are the maindestinationspots, butmany otherschoosethelaketobemore in touch with nature. Theysaythatthefashionpeople are the first to leave right after the men’s collections that ends in early July. Via Monte NapoloneandViaDellaSpiga, thetwo mainhigh-endshoppingstreets of Milan, are closed completely with most of the shop windows covered. How could this possibly occur during the pinnacle of tourist season in the city center?
o
f course, you have your high street stores open like H & M and Zara and a few department stores such as Rinscacenta and Coin. The only place to really boutique shop during ‘vacanza’ is at the markets. Milan is not really known for their extravagant clothing markets like London or Paris. This city is known for their SM.
a
t SM you can usually find a lot of famous designers alongwiththeiryoungteams scourgingthroughtheeurobargain bendsforinspirationsonanygiven Sundaymorning.Themostfamous and most notarized of these SM is at San Donato in Milan. “Milan, the spring and first love all together should suffice to make the gloomiest person happy.” Bertrand Russell
m
ilan is also known for being a gray and allwork city but it has as everything a black side and a white side, and Milan’s white side is that this italian city is bursting in fashion designers, fashion journalists, make up artists, photographers and to finish fast, fashion lovers and artists. This is remarked by it’s now traditional fashion week which is held every season and with the most importantdesignersofItaly. Attended by remarkable peopleofthefashionindustry and celebrities is one of themostimportantevents of the world of fashion.

Born in Los Angeles, California, on February 10, 1991, Emma Roberts has been around the entertainment industry since she was just a baby.
emma roberts
The daughter of noted actor Eric Roberts, Emma spent a lot of time on the sets of her her aunt’s, Julia Roberts, movies and even worked as an extra on the 2001 film, America’s Sweethearts. And although her mother initially wanted Emma to have a normal childhood, her obvious passion for performing couldn’t be stifled and her mother finally allowed her to begin the auditioning for parts. She made her film debut in 2001’s Blow, which is also notable as the first movie she ever tried out for. Ironically, Emma still hasn’t seen the movie due to its R-rated content, although director Ted Demme did make her a tape consisting entirely of her scenes. She followed Blow with starring roles in a pair of family films, 2002’s Grand Champion and the 2006 monkey comedy Spymate. Emma didn’t break through, however, until she landed the lead role on the Nickelodeon show Unfabulous in 2004, where she quickly established herself as a likeable and genuinely talented performer (she sings, too!).
In 2005, Emma released her first single, “If I Had It My Way,” which appeared in the Disney film Ice Princess. A year later, Emma cemented her status as a bona fide teen queen with her role opposite Sara Paxton and JoJo in Aquamarine. And with her appearance as iconic character Nancy Drew and movie Wild Child with Alex Pettyfer as co-star, it’s clear that Emma is destined to follow in the famous footsteps of her aunt.

She is the perfect old-school clothes-hanger with a little eighties androgyny thrown in.” Erichsen has had a number of fashion items named after her, including the Jill Stuart Freja handbag, the Chloé Freja clutch, and the Alexander Wang Freja LaceUp Stiletto Boot with Zip Detail. Burberry
31
The epitome of sophistication and the home of the quintessential trench coat, this iconic fashion institution was founded by Thomas Burberry in 1856. Creatively headed by Christopher Bailey since 2001, the label’s innovative shower-proof trenches and color-pop signature-check accessories will add a dash of contemporary British sensibility to your look.
32 Thomas Burberry (then a tailor’s apprentice) founded the brand in 1856. What began as a collection of sturdy outerwear sold out of a shop in Hampshire, evolved to include jackets in airy, waterresistant gabardine by 1880. Ten years later, Thomas Burberry & Sons debuted in London’s West End. In 1911, the house outfitted the first explorers to reach the South Pole, and by 1914, adapted its coats for WWI soldiers fighting in the trenches (hence the trench coat). Its trademark check pattern lined its trench coats by 1920, and rose to national ubiquity by 1955, when Queen Elizabeth II awarded the house a Royal Warrant (its first of two).
RO
ACK LABEL IT.SPOR ORS N
In 1961, the house dressed Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, introducing its branch of accessories by the mid-sixties. Aggressive retail expansion in the seventies and eighties spun Burberry into a household name, with stores in every major U.S. city. Embracing another image shift in the late nineties, Burberry furthered its hold on the luxury market through high fashion, debuting its first ready-to-wear collection under Roberto Menichetti, and launching major advertising campaigns.
By 2001, Burberry became cool, thanks to thenCEO Rose Marie Bravo, who tagged Kate Moss as muse and Christopher Bailey as designer. Bailey cut his teeth under Tom Ford at Gucci, and he has brought that same sexy edge to the revered heritage brand. He unites punk with luxury, and edge with opulence. And while the house’s legendary coats (and sometimes tartans) still dominate, they serve as a canvas for Bailey’s covetable—and profitable—art.

Drawing from the decadence of the Seventies, this sexy, sassy look sees frothy, candyfloss curls come just the right side of frizzy for a finish of epic proportions. Looking to Jerry Hall, Angelica Houston and early Debbie Harry for inspiration, 2011 sees this iconic era given a modern twist å la Marc Jacobs and Topshop Unique. The bigger, the better - so don’t be shy.
2 Sunkissed Sass
On the seemingly sundrenched catwalks of Anna Sui and Michael Kors, beachy texture and sea salt-sprayed tresses reign supreme this summer, while brassy sunbleached slices with creamy, vanilla hues defined cool colour. The key is to be free.

3 Slick Androgyny Chic 48
While the wild likes of Marc Jacobs and Topshop were rocking out with Seventies-inspired candyfloss froth, the ever-classic likes of Gucci, Versace and Prada showcased a decidedly sleeker silhouette, with slicked-back sisters strutting the catwalks with gender-bending confidence. Side-parting, strong lines and wet-look finishes are key.
