BEAST ARRIVES, SMALL TOWN UNDER SIEGE... COMMUNITY VIGILANCE NEEDED TO CATCH A MONSTER By Marie Gilmore

Residents in Southeastern Hillsborough County beware. There is a beast lurking amongst the shadows and known to come out at night in the dark and shadowy woods. Residents have reported sightings in Gibsonton, FishHawk, Plant City and surrounding areas. Hometown teen Tuff, known for his mystery and local lore podcast as the Crimson Kid, has been hunting for clues all around town and

has even tapped into experts at the Showmen’s Museum in Gibsonton. Local residents have reported strange noises from the woods and growling sounds, and several local residents have been reported missing, and the worst is presumed. There have also been reports of cats going missing in the night, fishermen disappearing from Lithia Springs area and neighbors being struck down in the streets. This level of fear has

not been in our town for decades, ever since the rumors of the Wolf Man surfaced. A few reports and records of the historic Wolf Boy — the world’s first werewolf — show that the attacks are happening during the full moon. Please, everyone, lock your doors, hold your children and pets tight and report any clues that might lead to the capture of this monster that is attacking our town. Anyone with information that can help, please contact www. thebeastcomesatmidnight.com.

WEREWOLF MOVIE FILMS IN S.E. HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY By Michelle Caceers While FishHawk residents may have been surprised to hear a werewolf lurking through their quiet residential neighborhood last July, they shouldn’t feel terrified or concerned. The hairy beast is one of the main characters in an old-school monster movie that was filmed in FishHawk and several other locations in Hillsborough County, including Tampa, Plant City and Gibsonton. The Beast Comes at Midnight is a Southern Gothic werewolf feature produced by Ed McKeever, Todd Oifer, Drew McCallum and Vincent Sarullo; directed by Christopher Jackson; and stars Michael McKeever, Madelyn Chimento, Michael Pare, Kyle Oifer, Samantha O’Donnell, Dylan Intriago and Eric Roberts, who plays Andras. In the movie, an outcast, teenage live streamer must enlist the help of four popular kids after he discovers that a werewolf is tracking one of them in their small rural town. The concept was born after Ed and his son, Michael, visited the Showmen’s Museum in Gibsonton, a building that houses strange and eclectic memorabilia from the colorful carnival and circus midways of the past. “My son and I saw a display about a wolf boy and started envisioning a monster movie set among the back-drop of this place,” said Ed. “We wanted to make a horror movie we could watch together, so we were going for a fun PG-13 vibe.” The Showtown American Pictures team is proud of the feature and appreciates all of the community support and local film

professionals that helped make this project a reality. The feature employed local crew, cast local actors for several starring roles and engaged numerous local talents to work on set as crew and background performers. They hope that The Beast Comes at Midnight is just the beginning. There are still a million and one stories to be told in the Gibtown Cinematic Universe. The film will be distributed by Briefcase Pictures, a media and content creation company located in Tampa Bay and formed in partnership with Todd of Oifer Industries, George C. Romero (son of the late George A. Romero of Night of the Living Dead zombie series) of Romero Pictures LLC and Ed. It also includes the New York-based DIGA Studio and Massachusetts-based Heavy Metal magazine. Todd, Briefcase Pictures CFO and FishHawk resident, said the company is seeking a private-public partnership to build production studios in the Tampa area and Lexington, Kentucky. It’s planning to raise $30 million through private investors to fund the facility as well as several other films. “There’s so much going for Tampa,” he said. “We’re going to try to drive as many jobs to the area as possible.” For more information on The Beast Comes at Midnight, visit www.thebeastcomesatmidnight.com or follow it on social media.
