CHOOSE THE PATH OF PRAYER

... he kneeled on his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime. Daniel 6:10b

CHOOSE THE PATH OF PRAYER

THANKS Thank you from the heart - it will always be like this, because it is the truth: First, to the Holy Spirit: • • •

Who gave us the Scriptures as our only infallible rule of faith and practice. Who shows us the Father and the Son and convinces us of sin, justice and judgment. That helps us and strengthens us always, especially in the midst of the problems that are part of our day-to-day lives, because through them, the Lord proves us to approve and perfect us so that we reach the perfect stature of man perfect in the likeness of Christ. Second, my family blessed and filled with the Holy Spirit of God.

Finally, my pastors, teachers, teachers and those who walk with me on the journey of faith in God and the search for his kingdom, who are those who insist on remaining firm and strong, active and always abundant in the Lord's harvest. To the Lord Jesus be all the glory!

INTRODUCTION I do not feel that I am the most capable person to explore such a profound topic, but I do feel that person whose grace of God is greater than my own life. One of these days, for example, I started to feel something very unpleasant, long before I preached in a very expressive church. I was so upset that I wanted to cancel my ministry. However, I went to seek God who answered that I wanted to minister to hearts in that church that would be facing those problems and how could I minister to them, without feeling anything about it? The divine word spoke to my heart to trust him with every COFFEE. I trusted. I overcame bad feelings and preached the Word of God that brought healing in that environment. So, before ministering to loved ones, God rst minister to our hearts so that we can be effective instruments of Him in action.

CHOOSE THE PATH OF PRAYER

What is praying? - To pray is to speak to God and is talking to God leads us to relationships to relate; to thank; to worship; to ask; and for communion. The relationship includes the ideas of: - Father/Son (love); Friend (trust); Brother (family); Counselor (light); Husband/wife (intimacy); and, Christ/church (mission). I fear for the one who never prays Charles Spurgeon What is the best way? What is the safest way to walk in pursuit of our goals? There are many paths and, of course, many destinations. Do any of them take us to the desired destination? One thing is certain, anyone who wants to get somewhere needs to establish a travel plan. You need to know 9

your destination, the resources you have, the conditions of the road, the way, the weather and the seasons, the dangers, obstacles. The more we know about the path, the better it will be to prevent us from having a safe trip.

Praying is a privilege - R. C. Sproul

Prayer is a privilege Praying is really a privilege. Did you know are being privileged, are being honored, that being invited by God to partnership with him involving your sovereignty?

that you that you you are make a

God is selfsu cient and has never needed anything from man, but through prayer, this invitation to pray, he shares with us his sovereign will. I will pray not because I have power or because my prayer is strong, but because I have been called to pray! I was called by God!

PHRASES AND QUOTES FROM GOD'S MEN OF PRAYER  “Prayer is the breath of the soul. To pray is to speak to God. Praying is good for the soul. To pray is to enter the throne room through Jesus and speak to the one who has dominion over the universe. To pray is to step on the ground of miracles. To pray is to live within God's agenda. To pray is to connect the altar with the throne. It is to become a partner of the omnipotent in his sovereign providence, for God chose to act through the prayers of his people” -Hernandes Dias Lopes.  "Prayer is the meeting of the thirst for God and the thirst for man." - Augustine of Hippo (AD 354-430)  "Your desire is your prayer; if the desire is continuous, then the prayer is continuous. It was not in vain that the Apostle said: Pray without ceasing (I Ts. 5.17). Even if you do anything, if you desire that eternal Sabbath rest, do not cease to pray. If you do not want to stop praying, do not stop wanting. "- Augustine of Hippo (AD 354430)  "I am currently so busy that I cannot spend less than four hours a day in the presence of God." - Martin Luther (1483-1546)  "Prayer is the antidote to all of our afflictions." - John Calvin (1509-1564)

 "What better guide can we nd for prayer than Christ's own example? He addressed the Father directly. The apostle shows us what to do when he says that He addressed His prayers to Him who was able to deliver Him from death. By this he means that Christ prayed correctly, since he appealed to the God who is the only deliverer. "- João Calvino (1509-1564)  "When we seek God in prayer, the devil knows that we are wanting more power to ght against him, and so he seeks to launch against us all the opposition that he is able to enlist." - Richard Sibbes (1577-1635)  "In prayer, it is better to have a heart without words than words without a heart." - John Bunyan (16281688)  "Prayer will stop man from sinning, or sin will entice him to stop praying." – John Bunyan (1628-1688)  "Whenever God intends to show mercy to his people, the rst thing he does is to get them to pray." - Matthew Henry (1662-1714)  "If some Christians who have complained about their ministers, had said and acted less before men and applied themselves with all their power to cry out to God for their ministers - they would have, as it were, raised and stirred heaven. with their humble, fervent and unceasing prayers for them, and they would have been much more successful. " - Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758)

 "By faith and prayer, strengthen your loose hands and rm your wobbly knees. Do you pray and fast? Tease the throne of grace and be persistent in prayer. Only then will you receive God's mercy. "- John Wesley (17031791)  "I have spent days and even weeks lying on the oor, praying, silently or out loud." - George Whitefield (1714-1770).  "Prayer is a powerful instrument not to cause man's will to be done in heaven, but to cause God's will to be done on earth." - Robert Law (1788-1874)  "What man is, is on his knees before God, and nothing more." - Robert Murray McCheyne (1813-1843)  "Let your woolen bundle stay on the oor of supplication until it is wet with dew from heaven." Charles H. Spurgeon (1834-1892)  "Whispers that cannot be expressed in words are often prayers that cannot be refused." - Charles H. Spurgeon (1834-1892)  "Prayer itself is an art that only the Holy Spirit can teach us. He is the giver of all prayers. Pray for prayer - pray until you can pray, pray to be helped to pray and do not abandon prayer because you cannot pray, because in times when you think you cannot, it is that you are really o ering the best prayers. Sometimes when you feel no comfort in your pleas and your heart is broken and broken, you are really ghting and prevailing with the Most High. "- Charles H. Spurgeon (1834-1892)

CHOOSE THE PATH OF PRAYER

THE DEFINITION OF WHAT IT IS TO PRAY WILL DEPEND ON KNOWLEDGE Our answer to the question “WHAT IS PRAYING?” It necessarily implies prior and profound knowledge, the best possible of two main people: 1. God. 2. Me. My prayers will be improved to the same extent that my worldviews about God and myself are improved. The more I know/relate, the better I will pray and the more e ective my prayer will also be. In Os 6.3 it is written to know and to continue to know the Lord. Original Word: ‫ַָידע‬ Part of Speech: Verb Transliteration: yada The idea is "intense involvement ... that goes beyond a mere cognitive relationship". Another example: John 17.3. And this is eternal life: that they may know you, only one true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you sent. (John 17: 3).

CHOOSE THE PATH OF PRAYER

Some important questions: - Are we facing a fantastic power at our disposal? Is "the force" available to us? - Is God up there and us down here? There is that prolonged cry mixed with compassion and misery: - give me, please ... look at my miserable situation ... hey, feel sorry for me ... look, payattention, I'm your servant ... - God has. I need. Does he give it to me or not, according to some whim? Are there whims in God? Is there partisanship in God? - Do I deserve anything from God? What have you got and achieved that you have earned? Does God owe us anything? Who is God and who are you, before we move on? - That's the question you must answer, not me. Let's read some Bible verses: Mt 6.22,23; 7.2. The body's lamp is the eyes; so that if your eyes are good, your whole body will have light; However, if your eyes are evil, your body will be dark. If, therefore, the light in you is darkness, how great will be such darkness! Matthew 6: 22,23

For with the judgment with which you judge you will be judged, and with the measure with which you have measured they will measure you. Matthew 7: 2 - There is a beautiful promise from God to us found in Jeremiah 29.11 For I know the plans I am designing for you, says the Lord; plans for peace, not evil, to give you a future and hope. Then you will call on me, and you will go and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me, and you will find me, when you seek me with all your heart. And I will be found of you, says the Lord Jeremiah 29: 11-14 Let's spend two minutes here re ecting on this ... how about a challenge? We will now improve our IADA... We will know, continue to know, seek, invoke and pray knowing this: • He will let himself be found for us!

THE FOUR IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF PRAYER 1• Does prayer change things? 2• Prayer is a privilege ... but, ... 3• We don't know how to pray properly. 4• The devil defeats most of our prayers There is much to talk about prayer. A lot, but only an hour will be impossible to explore the subject. Thinking and praying about it, we decided (me and the Holy Spirit) that it would be better to work on elementary things to reinforce or awaken in us the desire to end this class right away to retire to our private environment and start praying. 1. Does prayer change things? - God commands things to happen through prayer. John Piper - Prayer makes things happen that if we didn't pray, they wouldn't happen - http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=TYFauU0w2-A - R. C. Sproul - a small booklet entitled PRAYER CHANGES THINGS? - Chapter 1: The place of prayer - Chapter 2: The purpose of prayer - Chapter 3: The pattern of prayer - Chapter 4: The practice of prayer - Chapter 5: The prohibitions of prayer 18

- Chapter 6: The power of prayer This booklet is part of a series that is called: Crucial Issues (we recommend!). Their titles are: 1. Who is Jesus? 2. Can I believe the Bible? 3. Does Prayer Change Things ?, A 4. Can I Know God's Will? 5. How should I live in this world? 6. What does it mean to be born again? 7. Can I know if I am saved? 8. What is Faith? 9. What can I do with my guilt? 10. What is the Trinity? 11. Can I have joy in my life? 12. Who is the Holy Spirit? 13. Does God control everything? 14. How can I develop a Christian conscience? 15. What is the Lord's Supper? 16. What is the Church ?,17. What is Repentance? 18. What is the relationship between Church and State? 19. Are these the Last Days?

19

CHOOSE THE PATH OF PRAYER

- The model of prayer taught by Jesus. 2. Praying is a privilege - The God who is Sovereign, Wise and Good invites us to participate in the government/management of the universe through prayer. - Prayer is a privilege that God grants us to participate in the regency/government of the universe, of its material / spiritual world. He, God, is the one who wants to change/bless someone or some event and then he moves us rst to pray, then to conquer and then receive the victory. - Prayer must be said in the name of Jesus Jesus overcame death when he was on his knees before the Father, crying out for the Father's will to be done and not his. His war and ours is won rst on his knees and only later is it materialized in the physical world. 3. We don't know how to pray properly Obs .: The prayer for the kitchen gas to prolong its useful life - Rm 8.26-27 - Rev. Adhail Sandoval And in the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses; because we don't know what to ask for as it should, but the same Spirit intercedes for us with inexpressible groans.

20

CHOOSE THE PATH OF PRAYER

And he who examines the hearts knows what the Spirit's intention is; and it is he who, according to God, intercedes for the saints. - The Holy Spirit helps us to pray We must be bold to enter the Holy of Holies - Hebrews 10: 19-23 Therefore, brothers, daring to enter the sanctuary, through the blood of Jesus, through the new and living way that he consecrated to us, through the veil, that is, through his flesh, and having a great priest over the house of God, Let us come with a true heart, in complete certainty of faith, having the hearts puri ed from a bad conscience, and the body washed with clean water, Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope; because Faithful is what he promised. 4. The devil defeats most of our prayers - He is a liar and since the foundation of the world, he acts in people's lives by casting doubts about God and discouraging us from praying well before we start praying. Knowing that the devil can and can often defeat us before we even begin to pray and that prayer makes things happen that if we didn't pray they wouldn't happen, we need to overcome these things and hastily, boldly and confidently, bring our requests to God. 4.1. What is it to bring our requests to God?

21

CHOOSE THE PATH OF PRAYER

God - who is it that asks us to ask or so guides us? God is Sovereign, Wise and Good. Conducting requests - does God urge us to take our requests to Him? Why? Give examples of Bible verses that support this idea. The requests - what are the requests that God tells us to take to Him? 4.2. Why should I bring my requests to God? Isn't he too busy? Does he care about my orders? Because I need to ask if he already knows everything and knows everything 4.3. How to bring them to God? Do we need intercessors? Who? Through prayer With faith, patience and hope 4.4. What to do after leading them to God? Trust Persevere Wait patiently II CR 7.14 Linked to prayer, there are some more aspects that we cannot leave out. These are the attitudes that must be in us:

22

CHOOSE THE PATH OF PRAYER

1. Attitude of faith - pray in faith knowing that the Holy Spirit intercedes for us. Pray knowing that you will receive it and therefore with your mind ready to thank God for the answer to your prayer. 2. Humiliating attitude - know that you are God's instrument 3. Prayer attitude - pray knowing that you are privileged 4. Search attitude - this search must be carried out enthusiastically 5. Conversion attitude / behavior change. The biblical references below are from the book of II Chronicles: • Humiliate. An attitude of contrition and dependence on God (12: 6-7,12; 30:11; 33: 12,19,23; 34:27; 36:12). • Pray. A plea for help from God in times of need and also an opportunity for a relationship with our Creator (6: 19,21,24,26,32,34,38; 30:18; 32: 20,24; 33:13). • Search.

23

CHOOSE THE PATH OF PRAYER

Also an attitude of worship and seeking God with faithfulness and fervor (11:16; 15: 4,15; 20: 4; I Ch 16: 10-11). See also the related concept (although a di erent Hebrew term is used, often translated as "to seek", "to resort", "to consult", etc.) at 12:14; 14: 4.7; 15:12; 16:12; 17: 4; 18: 4.7; 19: 3; 20: 3; 22: 9; 25: 15.20; 26: 5; 30:19; 31:21; 34: 3.21.26; I Cr 1013-14; 13: 3; 15:13; 16:11; 21:30; 22:19; 28: 9. • To convert. Another attitude that also takes us from sin to obedience (6: 24,26,37-38; 15: 4; 24:19; 30: 6,9; 36:13). We need, because of our nature, every day to remember our origins in order for us to convert to God. Here is a secret that everyone should want to keep and teach to their friends, relatives ... ("IF" ... "THEN" ....): If we humble ourselves, pray, seek and convert from our bad ways, So, God will hear from heaven, forgive us and heal us!

CHOOSE THE PATH OF PRAYER

WHY DO I PRAY THREE TIMES A DAY? 1. First, because God sent [SEND] someone to preach his Word to me. It is God who sends takers across the world to preach the Word of God from the Gospel of the Kingdom of God and His Justice. He sends those he saves. 2. Secondly, because one day someone sent by God spoke [PREACH] of Jesus Christ to me introducing me as God and Lord of our lives and I just listened to [HEAR] and believed [BELIEVE] it with all my heart, soul, strength and understanding. God uses men to speak to men the word of salvation of men and even man made himself to choose 12 of them to be the apostles, his envoys all over the world. God uses men and God's method of expanding the Kingdom of God and His Justice is through the preaching of the Gospel of the Kingdom of God and His Justice. Peter, Paul, John and so many others did not face imprisonment and death for simply believing, but for preaching the Word of God. 3. Thirdly, because listening to the preaching, I believed and believed in God. I believe in him and when I pray I am obeying him, that is, I started to invoke the Lord [INVOCATE].

26

CHOOSE THE PATH OF PRAYER

The faith that I have that moves me to pray is not my exclusivity, but it is available to everyone. It does not depend on a religion or religious, philosophical confession, sects, rituals, mandigas or any other material, spiritual or intellectual interference. God spoke and I believed. This generated faith and I started to pray and want to live according to the Bible, the Word of God. The fundamental basis of my belief in God is the Bible. In the Bible, I nd the Word of God and its plan for me and for humanity. In it, I know the Kingdom of God and His Justice. This is what Jesus Christ, the central character, the core, of the Bible came to do here and show us that we must also follow in his footsteps by announcing the Gospel of the Kingdom of God and His Justice. The Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, speaks of Jesus Christ and presents him as the Only Begotten Son of the Father. If God spoke and I believed, soon everyone who hears his voice must make their decisions to believe in the one who speaks with them and then, begin to invoke him. All who invoke it will be saved [SAVE]. 4.

Because the guidance for praying at all times is biblical and I found my way to ful ll it by praying three times a day.

5.

It is a call from God that I am obeying.

6.

For recognizing that God is sovereign, wise and good. 27

CHOOSE THE PATH OF PRAYER

7.

Understanding that without God I am nothing, neither do nor have.

8.

By understanding that everything comes from God.

9.

For understanding that I depend on God in everything

10. The desire to be close to God, that is, not to give in to the temptations of selfishness, pride, and vanity. 11. Because I am a sinner, lacking in his grace and mercy. 12. For understanding the vision of the kingdom. There is only one God and Lord! 13. Because it is a privilege, an honor, to dedicate yourself to prayer. 14. For feeling like a participant in his sovereignty, because he moves me to pray for something that he himself decided to do, according to his will. 15. Because it doesn't depend on my feelings. Whether I am feeling it or not, it matters neither more nor less in my decision to pray. 16. Because it does not depend on my state of holiness. I will pray whether I am inclined to temptations and have even fallen into it; whether I feel strong and resisted. 17. Because it does not depend on results. With results, or without it, I will pray and wait on God for your answer not according to my will, but from him. ***

CHOOSE THE PATH OF PRAYER

For whoever shall call on the name of the Lord [TO CALL] shall be saved [SALVATION]. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed [BELIEVE]? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard [LISTEN]? and how shall they hear without a preacher [PREACH]? And how shall they preach, except they be sent [SEND] – Rm 10.13-15a
