There is a special place where students interested in arts management can learn important entrepreneurial skills that will prepare them for a successful career in the private or public arts sector. It’s the Barnett Center at The Ohio State University. Abel Hernåndez Graduate Student in Design
BARNETT CENTER PROGRAMS Graduate Student Think Tank: Groups of interdisciplinary graduate students work collaboratively with artists and organizations to solve critical artists’ issues and identify and develop new models for organizational management structures, assist with succession planning and conduct field research. The Think Tank works with national and international artists and local and regional organizations. Think Tank participants regularly present their work at national and international conferences, and are partnering with organizations such as the international performance ensemble Sweet Honey in the Rock and the King Arts Complex in Columbus. Barnett Speaker Series and Seminars: Speakers and seminars offer a platform for new thinking, research and practice in integrated arts, arts entrepreneurship and enterprise. Barnett Symposium: This biannual event is an in-depth inquiry and analysis of public and non-profit sector policies and practices. The inaugural symposium in 1993 brought together key figures from foundations, state arts councils, university experts in public policy, artists and arts administrators to discuss the broad topic of public policy and the arts. Mentorships and Internships: The Barnett Center identifies opportunities for students to participate in residencies and practicums with alumni, faculty and arts practitioners in a variety of platforms and locations. Local, national and international placements are cultivated with student input. Barnett Ambassadors: The Ambassadors meet three times per year, attend Barnett Center activities and events, connect with internal and external constituents, and recommend collaborations, partnerships, programs and events. They represent Barnett Center partners and include representatives from the College of Arts and Sciences, Fisher College of Business, John Glenn School of Public Affairs, School of Music, Wexner Center for the Arts, the Greater Columbus Arts Council, Columbus Public Health, VSA Ohio, Black Arts Plus and Huntington Bank. See go.osu.edu/barnett-ambassadors for the full list of Ambassadors.
