Tuesday, Feb. 12 • 7 p.m. Film/Video Theater, Wexner Center for the Arts, 1871 N. High St. Dance-film is the marriage of dance and film language — not just a recording of a dance, but a cinematic reimagining of dance’s possibilities. Work that can only exist on the screen. DANCE@30FPS (frames per second) is an international festival of dance-film presented by the Department of Dance and screened at the Wexner Center for the Arts for free. The festival has shown work from filmmakers the world over, including Oscar-nominees Mike Figgis and Juanjo Giménez Peña, but the premier criteria is work of unbridled imagination — bold, original and honest. This year’s festival will feature projects by MFA Student Josh Anderson and BFA Students Cole Rietenbach and Mason Chapello.

POPULAR CULTURE AND THE DEEP PAST 2019: FAIRIES AND THE FANTASTIC Friday, Feb. 22: Keynote by Chris Woodyard (author of Haunted Ohio), “Many Roads to Fairyland” • 6:30 p.m. (reception to follow) 180 Hagerty Hall, 1775 College Rd. Saturday, Feb. 23: Conference and Carnival, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ohio Union (Lower Level), 1739 N. High St. In the prologue to Chaucer’s Wife of Bath’s Tale, the narrator reminisces about a time when the land was full of fairies and the Elf Queen danced merrily on the green. In the centuries since Chaucer, fairies, far from disappearing, have lived on in the popular imagination and its creations. This conference is especially interested in Fairies and the Fantastic in the broadly conceived Medieval and Renaissance periods, but it also invites papers that look back to earlier examples of fairy belief or explore the uses of fairies in later popular culture. In keeping with the spirit of past PCDP events, the academic conference will be part of a broader ‘carnival’ of events and activities, including food- and cultureways demonstrations, exhibitions of artwork, books, and manuscripts, combat, gaming and cosplay. 9 9
