MOVING IMAGE PRODUCTION The College of Arts and Sciences will offer a new major in Moving Image Production (MIP) starting in autumn 2017.* This interdisciplinary major will be administered by the Film Studies Program, with partners in the Departments of Theatre, Art and Design; Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD); and the Wexner Center for the Arts, according to Ryan Friedman, director of Film Studies.

through the MIP program together, whereas currently students who cobble together a videoarts minor essentially take an unstructured series of electives from various majors, finding their own way through the maze of film and video offerings around the college,” explained Roger Beebe, associate professor in the Department of Art, who has screened his films around the world. “The difference is night and day — centralizing the curriculum to take full advantage of the collective wisdom of our faculty in various departments will give students a broad exposure to film and video practice and history that will serve them well when they go out into the world.”

“It will explore film production through studio courses in the animation, documentary, experimental and narrative areas,” he said. “Incoming students will take two pre-major courses their first year, and will undergo a portfolio review process before being admitted to the MIP major their second year. We expect to admit 30 to 35 students each year.” “The new major will offer a structured four-year experience for a cohort of students moving

The program will be hands-on, where students learn all aspects of filmmaking and find their voices as independent image makers. For more details about the Moving Image Production major, visit film-studies.osu.edu.
