The museum is also home to the fossil skeleton of a seven-foot-tall giant ground sloth, Megalonyx jeffersoni — but you can call him Jeff ! — from Ohio’s ice age.

THE BUILD
ING Opened in 18 93, Orton Hal l, the oldest building on ca mpus, is nam Edward Orton ed for Dr. Sr., a professo r of geology and Ohio Stat e’s first pres ident. In addition to th e museum, th e building houses the O rton Memoria l Library of Geology, on e of the larg est geologic libraries in th al e country.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
The museum staff is available to give talks by appointment for schools and other groups in the museum and elsewhere in central Ohio. They are always happy to answer questions about geology and paleontology, and to identify rocks, minerals, fossils, bones and teeth. VISIT US ON CAMPUS HOURS: The Orton Geological Museum is free and open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PARKING: Parking is available in the Ohio Union South Parking Garage, which can be reached from both College Road and High Street (see map). The museum is also wheelchair accessible. Please enter at the southwest corner of the building and take the elevator up one floor.
