Message From the President I am so looking forward to the WUSOTA events this fall. Our chair members have been brainstorming all summer to better their committees and I am excited to see their hard work pay off. -Janelle Hively 2013 - 2014 WUSOTA President

Advocacy The Advocacy Committee is focused on the upcoming occupational therapy presentations to ambulatory interns. They promoted National Backpack Awareness Day on September 18 via social media and a slide featured on the digital monitors across Washington University campuses.

Jordan Skowronski and Kristen Moosmann promoted National Backpack Awareness Day on September 18.

ASD ASD is excited to have three students attending Hill Day this year. Also, ASD will be collecting old t-shirts, turning them into bags, and selling them for funds for AOTA. On September 23, Tim Wolf, OTD, MSCI, OTR/L, gave a Boardroom to Classroom lecture on AOTA.

Occupational Therapy

More than 35 students participated in the Alzheimer’s Walk on August 30.

Community Service The Community Service Committee has been planning community service events within the St. Louis area. The first Hope Lodge of the semester was September 26. Additionally, Stampede for Stroke on September 29 was a success. Fri., Oct. 11: 12:00 p.m.

Henry Crown Center Orientation

Cultural The Cultural Committee is eagerly planning upcoming events to expose students to a diverse array of community groups. More than 40 students attended the movie event, “The Untouchables,” on October 3. Tues., Oct. 29: 12:00 p.m.

Fundraising

MOTA

The Fundraising Committee has started the fall semester off strong with the annual Program in Occupational Therapy sweatshirt sale. A total of 156 sweatshirts were sold, with a profit of $1783.40. A limited supply of occupational therapy water bottles will be sold for $10 so make sure to purchase them before they are gone! Window clings will be available for purchase at the next WUSOTA General Body Meeting.

The MOTA Representatives are working extremely hard to encourage everyone to participate in the Missouri Occupational Therapy Association Conference in November. The information meeting on September 30 was very successful. Thurs., Nov. 7: TBA

Global Awareness Committee

The purpose of the Global Awareness Committee is to focus on global health issues. The first meeting was held on Thursday, September 19.

Professional Development

Job Fair

The Professional Development Committee has some very interesting lectures scheduled for this semester. Building an Accessible Home on September 26 and Crisis Intervention 101 on October both drew a lot of student interest.

The Job Fair Committee has been hard at work since the spring in preparation for this year’s upcoming Job Fair. The Job Fair presents a great opportunity to find a job and network with potential employers. With much success so far, the committee is hard at work to invite even more vendors! Be on the lookout for potential resume writing and interview workshops in preparation for the big day. Thurs., Feb. 27:

Social The Social Committee planned an exciting first-year orientation, including an exciting trip to the City Museum. The float trip was held on Saturday, September 7, which allowed first, second and third year students to get to know each other and have a fun time. Look for an upcoming Halloween costume contest around October 31!
