The projects` aim is to define and create more layers through the existing map, and give the chance to the users to interact with the map to create their own new layers. The new layers will have no end, every time a person will use the map he/she can adds a lot to the map and come out with the new layer. The map depending mainly on the reviews and feedbacks of people. One of the projects` targets to concentrate on how to be aware of these public spaces that we always use without pay attention to them with different scales. The project started by defining the public spaces until it reached that people don`t understand well the public spaces, because most of them are gated public spaces. The exercise will deal with high complexity with public spaces which are the markets in the streets, because it`s the real public spaces.

II] Introduction Start with realizing the public spaces in Cairo and how people
react towards them. Public spaces have different categorizes starting from the gated till the real public spaces. Back to “El Souq” was the main public space in old Cairo where people can gather, buy, sell and discuss different topics. It was the heart of the city. Analyzing at the beginning of the project most of the actions and even the voices happening there, trying to find the other layer of these markets here in Cairo. By defining the importance of markets can leads us to defining these public spaces.
Downtown Walk Walking in the streets of downtown and catching the other layer there. Since downtown is one of the fewest areas in Cairo that has wide pavement used as display for the facing shops. The interesting part was in the different use of each area in the pavement according to his/her needs and background, but unlike the expectations it was a good thing to see how each one reacted towards his own “Public Space”. Each one develops in this facing public space. There are different typologies of public space (linear, diffusion, centroid).

Since the power of public space is in the markets, from here the projects` map came. The Markets are the key for the map, each and everything about the markets. Types of markets, who`s going which market, how people react in different types of markets, location of markets on map. The women are the first target because the markets are the main part of their days either working women or not, how different social levels associate there.

How different social levels associate with the markets, helping people know more markets according to their needs and adding to the map more layers that can make people aware of the spaces around them. -What are the projects` data gathering tools? From the street itself plus the feedback and reviews of the websites` users. -How far do you consider them reliable? The option; of making the users put comments, give their feedback, and search on stuff they want; gives them the opportunity they are the real owners of the website so they can give more and not stop. -How did you categorize your data? Categorizes of markets, where each one has its` own color and icon to easily find it . The daily use markets . The “one day” market . The “one hour” market . The Brides` stuff . Bazaars and open days -What are you looking for in this data? Filtering the map of markets, creating new layer that has only the markets. -What is the medium used in the map? Website
