Introducing Alta Premium and Nera Advanced Product Families The Oticon Alta/Nera product families are built on the new Inium platform which is our best performing signal processing platform ever. Alta provides users with a premium listening experience by raising speech understanding in noise to a higher level. It goes farther to relieve the stress and fatigue of living with hearing loss. Oticon Nera offers the technological benefits of the Inium platform in a mid-level product. Inium platform instruments include the Personalization Process in the fitting flow, enabling you to accurately personalize the instruments for a fitting which better meets the patient’s patient listening needs and sound preferences. Advanced sound processing and effort-saving technologies are used to create new key features such as Speech Guard E, YouMatic Manager , Spatial Sound Premium (Alta) and Advanced (Nera), and the Inium feedback shield. Both Alta and Nera family styles include all-new compact in-the-ear styles as well as a broad palette of behindthe-ear styles. The RITE instruments use Oticon’s miniFit receiver and dome system.

New miniFit Receiver System The miniFit receiver system has been specially designed for miniRITE and RITE instruments on the Inium Platform. These receivers provide 3 different fitting levels. The transducers have different sizes, providing more flexibility for ear canal shape as well as output levels. The miniFit receivers are labeled according to the fitting level: 60, 85 and 100. Additionally, a power receiver mold is available for the 100 receiver when a custom power option is preferred.

Fitting rationales Oticon Alta’s proprietary Voice Aligned Compression (VAC) implements curvilinear compression, comprising multiple kneepoints to ensure a smooth frequency response at all input levels. This is the default rationale prescribed for adults. For children, Oticon Alta instruments prescribe the DSL v5.0a rationale. NAL-NL2, NAL-NL1 and DSL v5.0a rationales are options for any user. For Nera instruments, the default rationale for adults is NAL-NLX. For children, Nera instruments default to DSL v5.0a.

Customizing the miniRITE and RITE To get the best performance, cosmetics, and comfortable fit, consider the following:

• Determine whether the miniRITE or RITE is the most suitable style for your patient based on features (T-coil, FM option, etc.), handling and physical fit.

• Select the correct receiver, including fitting level and unit length

• Select the correct dome size, or consider whether a custom mold is needed

• Ensure proper insertion of the receiver in the canal when placing the instrument on the ear

• An ear grip for retention is available with the 60 and 85 receivers, if required. NOTE: The ear grip is not available with the 100 receiver.

Receiver Length Five receiver lengths are available for the three receiver fitting levels (60, 85 and 100). Number 1 is the shortest and 5 the longest. The length is marked with a number on the receiver. The lengths most commonly used are sizes 2 and 3. The 60 and 85 receivers are also available in a sixth length, size 0 for infants and small children.

Receiver Markings The receiver tip is color-coded red (right) or blue (left) to indicate which ear the device must be used for.

Measuring the ear for exact receiver length The correct measurement corresponds to the middle of the ear canal, as shown using the measuring tool. The measurement is the same for all domes and custom earpieces. The goal is for the receiver to sit comfortably and be hidden in the ear canal, and for the wire to be flush with the head.

Attaching the receiver The receiver attachment to the hearing instrument is the same for all three receiver types. Insert the receiver into the shell until it snaps into place. CAUTION: Alta/Nera RITE and miniRITE instruments must only be fitted with miniFit receivers (type 60, 85 and 100). Do not use previous generation receivers with Alta or Nera instruments. Do not use miniFit receivers with Agil, Acto, Ino, or any other instruments on previous platforms, such as RISE or RISE 2. The packaging for miniFit receivers is black to clearly indicate that they are a new generation of receivers.

Replacing the receiver unit The best way to replace the receiver is by gently using a small screwdriver or multi-tool with the dedicated extension point. (The extension point is placed on the tip.) Press the receiver locking lever through the hole to release the receiver unit and gently pull the unit out.

Attaching the ear grip (60 and 85 receivers only) The ear grip can be used for better receiver retention when using the 60 or 85 receivers. The ear grip is designed to work for both the right and left ears. Attaching the ear grip on the 60 receiver Slide the ear grip onto the receiver, ensuring that the ear grip is turned the correct way, stopping at the locking point when a click is felt. The dome can then be placed on the receiver. Attaching the ear grip on the 85 receiver Slide the ear grip onto the receiver, ensuring that the ear grip is turned the correct way. The ear grip must be pulled over the receiver until the edge is level with the squared part of the receiver. The dome can then be placed on the receiver. Adjusting the length If the ear grip is too long to fit in the concha, it may be trimmed. Take care to avoid leaving a pointed end as this may irritate the ear.

Inserting and placing the device on the ear 1. Insert the earpiece into the ear canal. 2. Place the hearing device behind the ear. The receiver unit with the correct earpiece should be placed far enough into the canal so that the receiver wire lies flush with the patient’s head. When looking at the patient face-to-face, you should not see the receiver wire sticking out. 3. If necessary, add the ear grip for extra retention when using the 60 or 85 receivers.

miniFit earpieces Dome, Custom Mold, and Power Receiver Mold selection

The Open, Bass and Power domes are made of silicone and features integrated wax protection. They are all instant fit solutions. Open domes provide an open fit solution for milder hearing losses. Bass domes are for greater hearing losses where more low frequency gain is needed. Power domes are for more severe hearing losses. The miniFit LiteTip and Micro Mold are acrylic custom solutions that can be used instead of a dome for a RITE fitting. The integrated adapter uses red and blue color-coding to clearly indicate right and left sides. The molds are produced from a traditional, deep impression and are a good choice in the event of retention problems. miniFit LiteTip, and Micro Molds can be ordered in multiple styles. Please consult the order form for all options. miniFit Open Dome, LiteTip and Micro Molds cannot be used for 100 receivers.

The Power Receiver Mold encapsulates a 100 receiver for an integrated solution. The correct length receiver wire is attached to the Power Receiver Mold faceplate, providing fitting flexibility (speaker wire lengths can be exchanged if necessary).

Selecting a miniFit dome The Open Dome is available in three different sizes: 6mm, 8mm and 10mm. The most commonly used is the medium-sized 8mm dome. The Open Dome is suitable for hearing losses up to 70 dB in the high frequencies and is the best option for most users. The Bass Dome is available in four different sizes: 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, and 12mm. It can be used for hearing losses up to 100 dB in the high frequencies and makes it possible to provide more gain in the lower frequencies. The Bass Dome comes in two versions: single vent and double vent. Genie will prescribe the best fit according to the client’s hearing loss. You also have the possibility of selecting Power Domes for closed instant fits for flatter hearing losses up to 100 dB. The Power Dome is available in four different sizes: 6mm, 8mm, 10mm and 12mm. The dome should sit comfortably in the ear canal and support and hold the receiver. CAUTION: • miniFit receivers must be used only with miniFit domes. • Do not use previous generation receivers with miniFit domes. • Do not use previous generation domes with miniFit receivers. • Domes should be changed regularly (one month at minimum), depending on wax and oil buildup which may vary from patient to patient.

Vents LiteTip and Micro Mold - short vents LiteTips and Micro Molds use tube-shaped vents, as in traditional ear molds, but the length is shorter than for standard vents. For this reason, the LiteTip and Micro Mold vent effect is much greater than a longer vent of same diameter. Genie prescribes vent size when LiteTip or Micro Mold is selected, but the size must be checked under Acoustics in the Fitting Step. For further information about selecting vent sizes and effective vent sizes, please refer to the Genie help files under Acoustics.

Micro Mold Styles with Long Vents Micro Mold styles with long vents (i.e., canal, skeleton, etc.) use tube-shaped vents just like standard Micro Molds. The vent is a little longer but the canal’s vent effect is still larger than its actual diameter. Genie prescribes the vent size (defaulting to short vent style) when Micro Mold is selected. For fittings using mold styles with long vents (i.e., canal, skeleton, etc.), the Micro Mold Long venting option should be selected under Acoustics in the Fitting Step in Genie.

Attaching the miniFit LiteTip and Micro Mold to the receiver When fitting Oticon RITE hearing devices with miniFit receivers and a miniFit LiteTip or Micro Mold, follow the instructions below: • Find the correct receiver unit length and attach it to the instrument (see “Measuring the ear for correct receiver length”). • Carefully insert the receiver into the Micro Mold or LiteTip and push until it sits firmly in place. • If the mold bore is too narrow or long to insert the receiver by hand, use the miniFit tool to snap it into the mold. • The mold can rotate axially to ensure proper adaptation to the ear canal. Before attaching the mold to the receiver make sure it is turned the right way by ensuring that the “up indicator” (a dot on one side of the mold) points upwards. When using the miniFit tool, please note that the 60 and 85 receivers have separate insertion tools. Note: Make sure that the receiver is not angled when inserted into the mold. An odd angle will prevent the receiver from properly engaging the adapter. CAUTION: • Do not use previous generation receivers with miniFit Micro Molds or LiteTips. • Do not fit miniFit receivers with Micro Molds and LiteTips from older generation receivers.

Removing the miniFit Lite Tip or Micro Mold The miniFit LiteTip or Micro Mold cannot be detached from the receiver without the miniFit tool. When detaching the LiteTip or Micro Mold, follow these instructions: 1. Remove the wax filter (see Service and Maintenance). 2. Press the tool into the mold to release the receiver unit. 3. The mold can now easily be removed from the receiver unit. Note: The wax filter for the miniFit receiver must be in place before it is attached to a Micro Mol/LiteTip as this forms part of the locking mechanism.

Attaching Power Receiver Molds When fitting Oticon Alta RITE hearing devices with 100 receivers and Power Receiver Molds, follow the instructions below: • Find the correct receiver unit length and attach it to the instrument. (see “Measuring the ear for correct receiver length”). • Click the receiver onto the Power Receiver Mold and push until it sits firmly in place. • Put the cover plate on. When changing the receiver, make sure to use a new cover plate. Note: Make sure that the receiver is attached firmly to avoid losing the hearing instrument. CAUTION: • Do not use previous generation receivers with miniFit Power Receiver Molds. • Do not fit miniFit receivers with Power Receiver Molds from older generation receivers.

Detaching Power Receiver Molds The Power Receiver Mold cannot be detached from the receiver without using the tool. When detaching the Power Receiver Mold follow these instructions: • Remove the cover plate by putting the tool underneath it and push up. Use a new cover plate with the new receiver. • Use the other end of the tool and hook it on the receiver. • Pull backwards and upwards to remove the receiver.

BTE 13 and miniBTE with Corda miniFit BTE 13 85 and miniBTE can be fit with Corda miniFit. BTE 13 100 can be fit with Corda miniFit Power. The Corda miniFit Kit: The Corda miniFit kit contains all elements for success with thin-tube fittings, including:

• Left and right tubes (0.9mm) in five lengths (-1, 0, 1, 2, 3) (a Length 4 is available must be ordered separately) • Open Domes in three sizes • Bass Domes with double vent in four sizes • Adapter for BTE 13 and miniBTE instruments • Adapter for older instruments • Ear grips • Measurement tool and cleaners • Service tool and extra pins for adapter/hook attachment • Corda miniFit Quick guide

Service and Maintenance miniFit Domes A wax filter is integrated into all types of miniFit domes. The domes must be replaced regularly (once a month at minimum) or whenever needed. Replacing the dome Remove the old dome using your fingernails. Push the new dome onto the receiver, applying gentle pressure to secure it safely. Make sure that clients have extra domes for ongoing maintenance and replacements.

Damper The damper is placed in the hook on BTE 13 (standard gain) and miniBTE instruments. It mainly works as an acoustic filter, shaping the frequency response, but also has the function of preventing moisture and cerumen from entering the instrument. If there is no sound in the instrument or sound output is reduced, it may be caused by a clogged damper which should be replaced. Replace the damper as shown. Note: The damper is not used with BTE 100 (power) instruments.

Changing T-Cap Microphone Filter Custom Instruments with size 10 batteries • Remove the tool from its packaging. The tool has two ends: one for removal of the old T-Cap and one with the new T-Cap replacement. • Using the removal end, push it under the top edge of the used T-Cap. • Lift the used T-Cap up and out. • Using the other end of the tool, insert the new T-Cap into the opening and slightly twist the tool so that the new T-Cap is free. •Dispose of the tool.

Changing O-Cap Microphone Filter Custom Instruments with 312 and 13 batteries • Remove the tool from its packaging. The tool has two ends: one for removal of the old O-Cap and one with the new replacement O-Cap on it. • Push the removal end of the tool into the used O-Cap filter. • Pull the used O-Cap out with the tool. • Flip the tool around (1) and use the other end to push the new O-Cap into the opening (2). • Remove the tool, leaving the O-Cap in place (1). Dispose of the tool (2). If your instrument has two microphone openings, follow the same procedure to change the second O-Cap filter as well.

Fitting Considerations Genie and venting Genie recommends the largest possible vent, taking into account the needed insertion gain and the anti-feedback system in the instrument. The limiting factor for large vents is, of course, the size of the user’s ear canal. We suggest using the Genie vent recommendation, which optimizes high-frequency gain while reducing the possibility of feedback. If you change from this recommendation, the vent should be changed in Genie for accurate programming calculations.

Dampers Dampers are placed in ear hooks or in the tubing of ear molds of BTEs. • Their purpose is to reduce the unwanted resonance at 1000 Hz and its harmonics generated by the tubing system. • Dampers are available with different attenuation settings at the peak at 1000 Hz. • The normal/average damping at 1000 Hz is 9 dB. Removing the filter is not recommended. If the damper is removed for any reason, the gain at 1000 Hz should be reduced by 9 dB. The damper should be replaced in the following situations: • Visual inspection indicates earwax, dust or dirt trapped in the damper. • If sound output is reduced and audibility is perceived as weaker.

Cable overview Oticon Alta/Nera is programmed using the Genie fitting software 2013.1 (or newer) which is compatible with NOAH 3.0 and NOAH 4.0. You will also need the Oticon programming cable #3 (right and left). The drawings show how to connect the different styles when fitting hearing instruments with cables The programming cable is attached to one of the three available programming devices: • HI-PRO • NOAHlink/nEARcom • Express Link

Connecting FlexConnect to miniRITE Open the battery door and slide the FlexConnect cable into the instrument, as shown (ensure that the black dot on the cable is facing upwards). Insert a fresh battery. Close the battery door and attach the FlexConnect to the programming cable.

Connecting the Programming Shoe to BTE and RITE 1. Open the battery door on the instrument and slide the programming shoe into the guide, as shown. Insert a fresh battery. 2. Close the battery door and attach the programming cable.

Connecting the Programming cable to miniBTE 1. Use a small screwdriver to raise the lower edge of the push-button cover and move it downwards to reveal the cable connection. Do NOT insert a battery. 2. Attach the programming cable, Standard Cable #3. The double hinges ensure that the push-button is easy to move and does not fall off. CAUTION: It is critical that the miniBTE is programmed WITHOUT a battery. The battery may interfere with the connection to Genie.

Connecting the FlexConnect Mini to Custom Products 1. Open the battery door and insert the FlexConnect Mini into the space next to the battery door, as shown (ensure that the black dot on the cable is facing upwards). Insert a fresh battery. 2. Close the battery door and attach the FlexConnect Mini to the programming cable.

nEARcom For greater flexibility and comfort, use nEARcom without cables when fitting Oticon Alta/Nera instruments. Please note: custom instruments based on battery size 10 cannot be programmed by nEARcom. Detect the instruments 1. Switch on the instruments using fresh batteries. 2. Lay nEARcom on the table and place the instruments in the middle of the neck loop. 3. Click ‘Detect’ for cordless programming. Instruments that have never been programmed must be assigned to the correct side – left and right – in Genie. Use a BEEP test as follows: To identify the instrument, place it in the middle of the neck loop. and click ‘Beep’. The instrument will beep for 6 seconds. While the instrument is beeping, remove it from nEARcom and listen to it. If the instrument does not beep, return it to the middle of the neck loop, click the ‘Change side icon’ between the boxes with the detected instruments and click the same ‘Beep’. Listen to the instrument again. Click ‘Continue’ and proceed with the programming.

Selection Step — “Select Instruments” Oticon Alta comes in all styles from CIC to BTE and RITE (Receiver In The Ear). Oticon Alta has a number of options. Not all options are available in all styles. When you select a style, only the features available in that style will be visible. If you do not wish to select a style, select the relevant features you want and Genie will display all available instruments that match your criteria. The available features are: • Battery size • Telecoil • Volume control • Push-button • Auto phone • Directionality • Cordless • Streamer Receiver selection When you detect a RITE or miniRITE instrument, the available receivers will be displayed. Select the fitting level that matches the client’s audiogram and make sure the fitting level selected in Genie is identical to the fitting level of the physical receiver connected to the hearing instrument. If the selected and the actual receiver do not match the output level of the instrument will not match, the programmed settings and may cause damage to the client’s hearing. When you detect a custom, miniBTE or BTE instrument, the fitting level of the connected instrument will be displayed based on the fitting.

Selection Step — “Personal Profile” We recommend completing your client’s personal data in the Personal Profile tool for every fitting. Genie uses information about the user’s audiogram, age, experience, abilities and listening preferences to determine the optimal prescription for the hearing instrument settings. A personal profile is automatically prescribed, based on the data obtained from the individual user. The personal profile is a group of settings to match the user’s needs, abilities and sound preferences. It consists of a combination of amplification parameters and advanced feature settings. Each profile provides different listening schemes, recognizing that people have different preferences, auditory ecologies and auditory processing abilities. The personal profile rating bars on top of the screen indicate which profile is prescribed (marked with a target icon) and how well the remaining profiles would suit the client.

Preference Manager questions Even when two people have the same hearing loss, they may not have the same processing demands for their hearing instruments. Differences in sound environments, sound preference, and the client’s ability to process sound input will influence the optimal sound processing of the instrument. To take these individual parameters into account, the Preference Manager tool is included to assist in creating the personal profile prescription. In order to prescribe the right personal profile, users will be asked about their sound preferences based on their listening and sound experiences. Using the sound samples to answer the Preference Manager questions Playing sound samples to clients may help when discussing individual sound preferences. This will give them a reference point when you ask whether they prefer “sharp and distinct” or “soft and round”, for example. The sound samples that apply to each question can be found just next to the respective question in Genie. There is no sound sample to support question 1. Question 2 is an example of how loud background noise can be suppressed to achieve a better speech to noise ratio and how this affects the sound of the talkers. The client can prefer ‘more comfort’ (answer ‘no’) or ‘full range’ (answer ‘yes’). Question 3 addresses the client’s sound quality preferences. Examples include having a conversation in a car, listening to a piece of music and sharing a conversation at a restaurant. While the sound samples play the “sound quality” shifts back and forth between a softer and a sharper quality. Question 4 concerns the variability of the client’s listening environments and is illustrated by a conversation in a busy street. Please note: the sound samples are processed examples that will not represent specific selections for the client’s fitting. The purpose is simply to give examples of the contrasts between different sound qualities. Recommendations on speaker installation can be found in Help files in Genie. If the questions are not answered, default answers displayed in the Preference Manager are assumed for all experience levels, as shown in the screenshot.

Special Cases Children Genie will always prescribe the Personal Profile Exact and will not present questions for children aged 17 or under. Severe-to-profound users Genie will not present Preference Manager questions for users with severe-to-profound hearing losses. However, you will be prompted to estimate whether your client’s auditory resolution is high or low. The answer you give will influence the prescription of the Personal Profile. A client with a high auditory resolution performs well in face-to-face conversations while a client with low auditory resolution has difficulties in such situations. The YouMatic settings will be based on the following assumptions: • Severe loss: A person with high auditory resolution is able to understand a rapidly changing and compressed signal. Someone with a low auditory resolution will prefer a more stable and less compressed signal.

• Profound loss: A person with high auditory resolution is able to understand a gradually changing and minimally compressed signal. Someone with a low auditory resolution will not be able to understand speech without visual cues, so a slower, linear signal is preferred.

Selection Step — “Program Manager” In Program Manager, you can activate, configure, delete and change the order of the programs. For general programs, you can choose between VAC (Voice Aligned Compression), NAL-NL1, NAL NL2, and DSL v5a fitting rationales. Adults For adults, VAC will be prescribed as the default fitting rationale. In cases where NAL-NL1/NAL-NL2 is selected, please note that the Personal Profiles Lively and Steady will not be available. For DSL v5a, Adult no adjustments are possible in the YouMatic Manager. Children For pediatric clients, DSL v5a, Pediatric will be prescribed by default. NB: DSL v5a does not allow adjustments in the YouMatic Manager. Phone Depending on the chosen instrument, you can select one of two phone programs: Microphone (M) or Telecoil (T). You choose whether you want to activate the phone program on the left or right ear. By default, a copy of ‘P1 reduced’ will be placed in the other instrument. If the instrument offers an Auto Phone option, you can activate the automatic functionality in the lower right corner of the screen. You do not have to add a Phone program in P2-P4. You can choose whether the program should be a Microphone or a Telecoil program (when Telecoil is available). This program can be configured either at this point or in the End Fitting step. Music A music program can be added for more natural music perception. This program will prescribe a more linear amplification and will turn off some of the automatics that can potentially affect the dynamics of music. DAI and FM RITE and BTE instruments are compatible with DAI and FM shoes. When the shoe is attached to the instrument, you will automatically have access to two extra programs: • DAI/ FM + Microphone (default) and • DAI/FM only The two programs are based on the settings in P1. Any adjustments are handled in the End Fitting step. ConnectLine If you are fitting ConnectLine to Oticon Alta instruments, adjustments to ConnectLine programs are made in the End Fitting step.

Controls Instruments can be fine-tuned in each of 10 independent frequency channels. Soft (45 dB SPL), Moderate (65 dB SPL) and Loud (80 dB SPL) input levels are all adjustable. Select each frequency control by clicking the corresponding button in the table. By selecting ‘All’, all gain controls will be selected. Adjust the gain controls in 1 dB steps in the selected fields. The colors of the control values are blue (left) and red (right) when the device is at prescribed settings. If the control value is no longer at prescribed settings, the value turns black. By clicking the arrows on top of the control panels, the frequency bands will condense into three regions: Low frequency (LF), Mid frequency (MF) and High frequency (HF). Click the arrows between ‘All’ and ‘Loud’ to display the MPO controls for each region or channel. MPO is displayed in dB HL while gain is displayed in dB (IG).

Reserve Gain The VC Reserve Gain displays the volume range between the fitted level and the instrument’s possible maximum gain in the range of 0-10 dB in 2.5 dB steps. Reserve Gain will automatically be adjusted when the instrument’s gain is adjusted or the feedback limit is changed. The volume control in the hearing instrument has a range of 30 dB. It can be turned down 20 dB or up 10 dB from the fitted level.

Reserve Gain Click on the ‘CR’ button between the right and left graphs to check the compression ratio. Compression ratios should not exceed 2.0 (max. 2.5) as this may cause unclear sounds (speech) in the user’s ear.

Fitting Step — “YouMatic Manager” The personal profile defines a group of settings to match the user’s needs, abilities and sound preferences. This group of settings will determine how the hearing instruments act in different sound environments in the user’s everyday life. The hearing instruments monitor and determine various characteristics of the sound environment and combine this with information about the personal profile to provide a personalized hearing instrument performance. We call this personalized automatic system YouMatic. The YouMatic Manager allows you to view and adjust the settings of the personal profile. The displays provide an overview of the relative contribution of the different settings and features that combine to define how YouMatic manages instrument performance. If you wish to change the personalized performance of YouMatic, you can adjust the personal profile using the trimmer below and see how one or more features adjust. YouMatic Manager is available for general programs with VAC, NAL-NL1 or NAL-NL2 rationales.

The personal profiles The five personal profiles in Oticon Alta are:

• Lively: The most responsive personal profile, which provides fast and aggressive adaptation to rapidly changing listening environments. It is targeted at clients who want to hear all sounds and prefer sharp and distinct amplification. YouMatic will emphasize speech understanding and only provide noise management in very challenging situations.

• Exact: Full audibility of speech in all situations and fast adaptation to the presence of background noise. The ideal personal profile for clients who prefer speech understanding over comfort and are unwilling to accept annoyance. YouMatic will provide support in the exact situations where surrounding noise compromises speech.

• Balanced: Full audibility of speech in all situations while automatically and transparently minimizing the effects of background noise by moderate adaptation. The best personal profile for clients seeking a balance between good speech understanding and comfort. YouMatic will provide support in environments with moderate to loud noise levels to ensure comfortable speech.

• Gentle: Good audibility and clarity of speech combined with a lower-paced adaptation to background noise. The perfect personal profile for clients who prefer comfort over speech understanding, but are unwilling to miss out on important sounds. YouMatic will provide active support to obtain a gentle sound picture in less complex listening environments as well.

• Steady: Consistent high-quality sound and a stable sound picture with slow and transparent adaptation to changes in the environment. The personal profile of choice for clients who prefer a highly comfortable, soft and round sound. YouMatic will reduce noise in all situations.

The Personal Profile Trimmer Panel

The personal profile currently selected is indicated by an enlarged box. Use the trimmer buttons within the box to make minor adjustments to the personal profile. The default setting for each personal profile will always be the centre position in the box. If you wish to select a different personal profile, click on it to enlarge the box. The meters above will show the corresponding settings for the new selection. The sound preference statements at each end of the trimmer panel indicate the perceptual range within which the trimmers operate. The complete trimmer panel represents a listening preference continuum ranging from “Hear it all” to “Comfort”.

When a new personal profile is selected, any fine tunings (e.g. of gain or automatic features made outside the YouMatic Manager) will be reset to prescribed settings. If you return to the originally used profile before closing YouMatic Manager, you will be asked whether you wish to keep the fine tuning for that profile or re-calculate with initially prescribed settings. If you are adjusting within a personal profile, no fine tunings are lost. NB: if you wish to view the gain settings of the hearing instrument while working in the YouMatic Manager, press the ‘Change to graph view’ button in the top left corner of the screen.

The Settings Panel

The meters on the Settings Panel show the automatic settings of the hearing instrument for the selected personal profile and how these are affected when the personal profile is changed. The scale on each meter represents the relative degree and magnitude of change for each system, depending upon the listening environment and the selected personal profile. A higher relative value indicates that the system is more active in more situations. A lower relative value indicates that the environment needs to become more difficult before the system is activated.

Listening Support Level The Listening Support Level meter indicates the combined listening assistance the user will receive from Noise Management, Transient Management, Spatial Noise Management and Dir Mode. The further towards ‘Comfort’ the client is placed on the personal profile scale, the more listening support will be provided and the sooner the listening support kicks in.

Using sound samples with YouMatic Manager The Optimization tab includes sound samples to help optimize matching of the personal profile. The personal profile trimmer panel can be adjusted while playing the sound samples. The effect can be immediately verified with the client’s preferences.

Fitting Step — “Automatic Features” The Automatic Features tool allows you to enable or disable the automatics Directionality and Noise Management in Oticon Alta instruments.

Multiband Adaptive Directionality (Dir mode) is designed to provide benefit from directionality in situations where the Speech-to-Noise ratio can be improved. Surround Mode is designed to provide the best balance between spatial awareness of surrounding sounds by trying to emulate the natural pinna effect. Opti Omni is an omni-directional mode which resembles the front-focused listening of the natural ear. Speech Omni has a more distinct front focus for better front/back segregation to help increase focus on the speaker in front. Noise Management uses VoiceFinder to detect whether speech is present or not. Noise Reduction will be applied to provide comfort in noisy situations. In situations where speech is present, noise reduction will be limited to maintain important speech cues. Binaural Broadband is available for Oticon Alta and controls the binaural processing, synchronization and coordination between the two hearing instruments. Binaural Broadband is set to ‘on’ by default for binaural fittings. NB: if this function is disabled, it will also disable the binaural coordination of push-button operations.

Fitting Step — “Feedback Manager” The greater the gain level (and hearing loss), there may be the higher the risk of feedback. The Feedback Manager in Genie sets the gain response with a suitable limit to prevent feedback. This tool allows you to measure, adjust and monitor feedback limits as well as comparing previous and current feedback limits. The feedback measurement is run from P1. Feedback limits will be applied to all programs in the hearing instrument. When you go back to ‘Controls’ in the Fitting step, the current feedback limits will be available at the curves displaying ‘Insertion Gain’ and ‘Gain, 2cc’ when clicking on the ‘Show feedback limit’ button between the two graphs (marked with a musical note). The Feedback Manager should only be used when the hearing instruments are howling or if they are on the borderline of howling (ringing or distorted signal).

Fitting Step — “Live Demonstration” Live Demonstration is designed to show in real time how Oticon Alta evaluates the listening environments in several dimensions. Live Demonstration consists of three elements:

• Amplification • Directionality • Noise Management

Live Demonstration automatically begins once an instrument is connected. You can pause Live Demonstration by clicking the ‘Pause’ button in the lower left corner. The Amplification tab shows actual aided response (output) against unaided input, as well as both input and gain. Use the ear icons below the graph to switch between ears when demonstrating one ear at a time. Use the mute button to temporarily let your client compare the sound of the instrument with an unaided response. The Directionality tab displays the current directionality mode of both instruments using the icons Surround, Split Dir or Full Dir. The last icon shows whether wind noise is present or not. Play the relevant sound environments suggested in the bottom of the screen to support the demonstration. The Noise Management tab shows how much noise is reduced by the Noise Management system in each fitting channel. The right and left panels show the sound environment (Speech, Speech in Noise, Noise, Quiet and Wind) as it is detected by each instrument.

Fitting Step — “Activity Analyzer”

The ‘Activity Analyzer’ screen displays instrument usage and environmental data. After the instruments are programmed in Genie and switched on, they start to collect data and learn. At a follow-up visit, you can open ‘Activity Analyzer’ and use the acquired statistics in your discussion about the client’s experiences. Oticon Alta does not log information while connected to Genie. Summary provides an overview of the data and learning collected in the instrument. Usage displays total instrument usage divided between programs. Volume control is active for instruments with a volume control and analyses its use. Signal processing summarizes the overall sound levels for all general programs. Life Learning is a feature that helps the instruments adapt to user preferences and sound environment over time. The instruments will register the preferred volume setting in specific situations, dependent on level (Soft, Moderate and Loud) and content (Speech, Speech in Noise and Noise) and automatically adapt to the preferred setting. Configuration: Under ‘Configuration’, you can disable Life Learning and Activity Analyzer by deselecting the checkboxes.

Fitting Step — “Fitting Assistant” The Fitting Assistant is a tool designed to deal with common problems that require adjustments to the hearing instrument at the fitting or follow-up visit. To operate the Fitting Assistant, select the tab that expresses the client’s complaint and then a control (such as Loudness). Click the control to adjust it. Adjustments made in the Fitting Assistant are immediately visible in the graphs. When you open the tool in the future, you can see how far from the starting point (middle) the controls have been moved. The Fitting Assistant can be used individually for each program in the instrument.

Fitting Step — “In-Situ Audiometry” With Oticon Alta instruments, Genie supports in-situ audiometry for making precise fittings using the client’s own molds and hearing instruments during threshold measuring. In-situ audiometry can be conducted between 250 Hz and 8 kHz, except for Open Domes where the frequency range is 750 Hz - 8 kHz. How to use in-situ audiometry The layout of the tool resembles a standard audiometer. In the Audiogram graph, you can see the normal audiogram represented as a faded grey curve. If the instruments are connected, you can conduct in-situ audiometry by using the fields below the graph to set the frequency and tone level. Click the ‘Play Sound’ button and the stimulus will be played in the instrument as long as the button is activated. During measurements, instrument microphones are muted. Click the ‘Talk-Over’ button between the graphs to switch on microphones and talk to your client. Click again to switch off. Ambient noise level is measured by the instrument microphones. If there is too much noise, the red noise level indicator will light up. The buttons in the lower right corner select whether you want to use the in-situ audiogram to calculate settings in Genie or if you wish to continue using the normal audiogram.

Fitting Step — “Real Ear Measurement” The Genie REM tool lets you verify your fitting by comparing measures obtained with your Real Ear Measurement equipment and Genie. When you use the REM tool to verify gain, you should deactivate all features in the hearing instruments so the verification is only made on the rationale. For other purposes you might want to activate some of the features again. Activating or deactivating is done in the box on the left side. In order to compare your measurement to target and simulated curves in Genie, make sure that the Genie curves are based on the same signal type and level as measured. Under the menu option ‘Preferences’ > ‘Edit Preferences’ > ‘Customize Software’ > ‘Measurement Modules’, you can select a preferred REM module. Your REM software will then open when activating the REM tool.* Note: With custom instruments, you cannot verify the Directionality when the programming cable is in the instrument. Also, the response in REM can be affected by interference from the programming cable. *This function is compatible with the Interacoustics Affinity and the GN Otometrics Aurical.

End Fitting The ‘End Fitting’ step covers all tools related to user operation of the instrument as well as Streamers. The Save and Exit screen contains information about Oticon Alta instruments. It also gives you the opportunity to link one or two Streamers to the instruments. To link a Streamer to the instruments, click the ‘Streamer’ box and then ‘Read serial number’ and follow the instructions provided on the screen. It is possible to link two Streamers to the same instrument. For information on configuration the Streamer settings see the ConnectLine chapter. Note: If your instruments are connected via HI-PRO, you cannot use the automatic readout. Instead, you will need to type in the serial number of your Streamer. You can find the serial number on the inside of the back cover of the Streamer. Click ‘Save, Program and Exit’ before disconnecting the hearing instruments.

Buttons and indicators ‘Button and Indicators’ is used to define the functionality of the available buttons, volume control and beeps in the instruments. By clicking the ‘Binaural Coordination’ button, you can choose whether the button controls both hearing instruments or just one. You also have the option of including a Mute function in the buttons. This is set to ‘off’ by default. Note: Remember to fill in information about programmable button controls in the general ‘Instructions for Use’ before handing it over to your client. The button configurations can also be printed for your client as a supplement to your verbal instructions and the general ‘Instructions for Use’. Double Button on BTE and RITE This switch is used to move the program cycle forward or backward or control the volume of each instrument. Genie gives you the flexibility to program the switch for program changes, volume changes or both. You can also decide with the client whether the switch control is programmed in the same way for both hearing instruments. Some clients prefer to let one hearing instrument control volume while the other controls program changes. Whichever option is chosen, ‘Binaural Coordination’ must be enabled in Genie to ensure the changes are applied to both instruments.

Single Button on miniRITE and miniBTE Monaural fitting: the push-button can only be used for switching forwards in the program cycle. Binaural fitting: the single button on the RIGHT instrument will increase the volume and move the program cycle forward. The single button on the LEFT instrument will decrease the volume and switch the program cycle backwards. Discuss with your client how s/he wishes the instrument to be set up.

Buttons on custom instruments (optional) Monaural fitting: the push-button can only be used for switching forward in the program cycle. Binaural fitting with wireless function: the single button on the RIGHT instrument increases the volume and moves the program cycle forward. Beeps The ‘Beeps’ tab is used to define the audible indications for program and volume control changes, as well as to decide when the instruments should deliver audible indication.

Phone and DAI/FM The Phone and DAI/FM tool provides an overview of the phone programs. It also helps you to define the functionality of Auto Phone programs and DAI/FM programs, where relevant. For Auto Phone programs, you can enable or disable the functionality and choose whether the program should be a Microphone or a Telecoil program (when Telecoil is present). On the DAI/FM tab, you can choose whether DAI/FM program should have the microphones turned on or off. You can also boost the DAI/FM signal in situations where both DAI/FM and the microphones on the instruments are active.

Fitting ConnectLine in Genie The ConnectLine Tool in Genie The ConnectLine tool gives access to dedicated programs used for streaming applications. The applications are organized under 7 tabs: Overview, Phone, Microphone, TV, Audio, FM and Telecoil. These enable you to adjust several controls to fine tune the sound experience according to patient preferences. The ConnectLine tool also allows you to adjust the settings and functions of the streamer. For more information, go to “Streamer Settings.”

Fine Tuning ConnectLine In general, the ConnectLine tool offers three trimmers for fine tuning: General Perception, Power Bass and Music Widening. The settings are automatically saved when you leave the screens. General Perception The Streamer Loudness trimmer adjusts the streamed signal, making it softer or louder than the default level. The signal from the hearing instrument microphones is not affected. The M relative to ConnectLine trimmer adjusts the level of the hearing instrument microphones relative to the streamed signal, which is useful when environmental sounds interfere. When set to 0 dB, the microphones will be set to the same level as in P1. The Sound Quality trimmer is used to correct the emphasis of the audio response by adjusting tonal balance. The response can be made “brighter” (more high frequency emphasis) or “fuller” (more low frequency emphasis) according to patient preferences. Power Bass Provides enhanced bass dynamics and gives better LF response with open fittings when streaming. Power Bass is adjusted in 3 steps (High, Medium, Low) or can be set to “off.” The prescribed Power Bass is based on the size of the vent or selected dome, so that larger vents or more open domes result in more Power Bass and vice versa. Power Bass settings can be adjusted according to the patient’s preferences. Music Widening Creates a more spacious listening experience when listening to monophonic signals through headphones or hearing aids. The feature requires two instruments and is based on reverberation techniques. Music Widening is adjusted in 3 steps (High, Medium, Low) or can be set to “off.” Music Widening settings can be adjusted according to the patient’s preferences. Because it may reduce speech understanding, Music Widening is not available for all ConnectLine devices.

The Phone Tab The Phone Tab enables fine tuning of the ConnectLine Phone and/or cell phone applications. The adjustments are only applied to the instrument’s phone program used for streaming. It is used for all ConnectLine landline phone or cell phone conversations streamed to the patient’s Streamer. General Perception: M relative to Phone: Typically, the level of the hearing instrument microphone should be lower/softer (-9 dB) than the phone to make it easier to focus on the phone conversation.

The Microphone Tab The Microphone tab enables fine tuning of the ConnectLine Microphone application. The TV Tab The TV Tab enables fine tuning of the ConnectLine TV application. General Perception: M relative to TV: Typically, the hearing instrument microphone and the TV should be equal (0 dB offset) to easily hear conversations when watching TV. Music Widening: For TV listening, Music Widening is set to “off” by default. This is a common pre-defined setting for all hearing loss levels. This is because most TV programs typically contain mostly speech, and Music Widening may compromise speech understanding.

The Audio Tab The Audio Tab enables fine tuning of wired or wireless audio input, such as music players. Music or Speech Select “Music” or “Speech” depending on whether your patient usually listens to music or speech (e.g. audio books, or phone conversations via PC, etc.) with their audio device. General Perception M relative to Audio: If “Music” is selected, the levels for the hearing instrument microphones and the Audio application should be equal (0 dB offset) in order to hear other relevant information from the surroundings while listening to the Audio device. If “Speech” is selected, the hearing instrument microphone should be lower/softer than the Audio device (-6 dB) to focus on the speech signal. Music Widening If “Music” is selected, Music Widening is set by default to Medium but can be changed according to the patient’s perception of or preference for reverb. If “Speech” is selected, Music Widening is no longer an option.

The FM Tab The FM Tab enables fine tuning of the ConnectLine FM application. Verification Standard or Comfort

• Verification Standard: Ensures that the settings in ConnectLine comply with Accredited Social Health Activists’ (ASHA) guidelines. This setting is the default for pediatric fittings (children from 0-16 years old). • Comfort: Includes a low frequency boost to compensate for leakage in open fittings. This setting is the default for all fittings except pediatric.

General Perception M relative to FM: Typically, the level of the hearing instrument microphone and the FM should be equal (0 dB offset). Power Bass If Verification Standard is selected, no adjustments are possible because the settings need to follow ASHA’s guidelines. If Comfort is selected, the settings can be changed according to the patient’s preferences.

The Telecoil Tab The Telecoil Tab enables fine tuning of the ConnectLine Telecoil application. General Perception M relative to Audio: Typically, the level of the hearing instrument microphone and the telecoil should be equal (0 dB offset). This is identical to a traditional M/T setting. Music Widening Since Music Widening might influence speech understanding, it is set to Off by default. If the telecoil is primarily used for music listening, this may be changed according to the patient’s preferences for reverb.

Streamer Settings This tool lets you configure the Streamer Pro and make firmware upgrades to all Streamers. The tool can be accessed from the ConnectLine Overview screen, the menu bar, and as a stand-alone application from the Windows Start Menu. The Streamer must be connected via a USB cable to make configurations and firmware upgrades. One or more Streamers can be connected to your PC. When a Streamer is connected, the serial number and Streamer version will be shown in the settings tool. The Streamer settings are organized in 2 tabs: • The Configuration tab • The Firmware Upgrade tab

The Configuration Tab Note: This tab is only available for Streamer Pro. Streamer Pro can be customized to the individual user via the Configuration tab. Select which controls and functionalities suit the individual patient’s needs to provide them with the best possible solution. The Configuration tab is separated into four windows: Streamer Settings, Streamer Functionality, Streamer Reset and Phone Settings. Streamer Settings In this screen, Streamer settings can be individualized for patient’s preferences. Select the relevant options based on their needs and their combination of Streamer Pro and ConnectLine solutions. Remote Control The Up and Down buttons (1) on Streamer Pro can be used for the following purposes: • Volume control (short press) • Program change (medium press) • Mute (long press) Select the functions relevant to your patient. Please note that the Streamer Pro can only be used as a remote control for hearing instruments when not streaming sound from a ConnectLine solution.

Lights/Jack The front light indicators of the Streamer Pro can be turned on or off (visual indicators). “Autostart from mini-jack/head set” button will ensure that the Streamer Pro automatically initiates streaming from a device when the mini-jack cable is connected (2). If “Autostart” is de-selected, the AUX button needs to be pressed to start streaming. AUX button The built-in telecoil can be configured to be activated with either a short or long press on the AUX button (3). As default, the telecoil is activated with a long press.

Streamer Functionality You can choose the functionalities that Streamer Pro should include according to patient preferences: • Full functionality • Phone only • Microphone only • TV only • Remote only By default, Streamer Pro will be set to ‘Full functionality’ with no restrictions.

Streamer Reset All Streamer Pro settings can be restored to factory settings by pressing “Restore to factory settings.” This can be done without losing existing pairings to hearing instruments and ConnectLine devices. Other settings and configurations will be cleared.

Phone Settings With Inium platform hearing instruments, two different ringtones can be chosen. This makes it possible for the patient to differentiate between a call from a landline phone and a call from a cell phone. By default, both ring tones will be the same. The Streamer Pro buttons can be programmed to have different functionalities when using a cell phone: • Any front button answers call • Voice dial (short press, phone) • Redial • Transfer call • Reject call • Music and notifications from cell/mobile phone (notifies the user about, e.g., text messages or calendar reminders via beeps in the hearing instruments)

The Firmware Upgrade Tab The Upgrade tool allows for upgrading first generation Streamer and Streamer Pro directly from Streamer Settings. This ensures that the patient has the latest Streamer features and functions. From the Firmware Upgrade tool, an overview of released features with the respective firmware version can be found. Upgrading To upgrade a Streamer’s firmware, please ensure that it is connected and charged. Before you begin, please note:

• The upgrade may take up to approximately 20 minutes, during which time you cannot close the Upgrade Tool • Do not disconnect the USB cable during the upgrade • Do not let your computer go into standby or shut down during the upgrade • If you are using a laptop, run it on AC power during the upgrade

Click Upgrade to start upgrading the firmware in the Streamer.
