HEARING SOLUTIONS

N w Effect Intiga was launched along with the premiere of The Now Effect, a holistic approach to helping first-time hearing instrument users find a simple and clear path to success with amplification. This is Oticon’s most comprehensive program to-date, designed to help hearing care professionals meet the modern hearing care needs of first-time patients before, during, and after their critical first hearing care appointment.

The Now Effect is composed of four key areas: Attract New Consumers

to take the first step

Motivate to Action with Readiness Management

The Now Effect featured Oticon Intiga as the focal point of the third step: Fit Successfully. Intiga is a new Design instrument from Oticon, created specifically with first-time hearing instrument users in mind. Intiga was developed specifically to meet the needs and expectations of these potential users. Based on extensive research, Intiga addresses three critical areas of concern in the minds of first time users: discreetness, acceptance, and performance. Discreetness in a hearing instrument is absolutely essential for the typical first-time user. Designed to be unnoticeable, Intiga is the smallest and most cosmetically appealing Oticon RITE style ever. The small size and ergonomic design provide a comfortable fit behind the ear. In addition, a new speaker system provides even more discreet fittings because of a thinner, more flexible wire that closely contours the ear. All Intigas use a size 10 battery yet still get 5-7 days of battery life, providing an excellent combination of size and performance. After a patient has decided that a potential hearing instrument is discreet enough for them to consider, the next questions will be about whether or not they

can actually accept the instrument into their lives. This second area of consideration is also critical to the overall process of successful instrument adoption. Intiga has been designed to maximize comfortable amplification and speech understanding through a new Automatic Adaptation Manager and other advanced features such as Spatial Sound and Oticon’s Voice Aligned Compression (VAC) fitting rationale. Once discreetness and acceptance are achieved, the final area of evaluation is performance. Speech understanding is aided with the use of Speech Guard technology in addition to the other advanced features in Intiga. In addition, performance is also enhanced because of Intiga’s wireless communication abilities using Streamer and ConnectLine™ products. Streamer allows for easy integration with cell phones, other Bluetooth devices, and also provides program and volume control functionality if the patient desires. Oticon Intiga is available in 3 price and performance levels. To learn more about Intiga and The Now Effect, visit www.now effect.com or call your Oticon representative at 1.800.526.3921.  Issue 18

Oticon’s new “Go-To” RITE Mold ‒ LiteTip Oticon understands the need for the perfect fit right from the start. LiteTip offers many advantages for you and your patients when considering a hard custom earpiece if domes are not an option. The new hollow shell design optimizes the potential for better comfort and cosmetics. Its improved flexible construction allows for better speaker positioning and less slippage while eliminating the “spinning” effect. LiteTip is available for all your non power receiver choices, standard, medium, and the new curved Intiga design. Insertion and removal is very easy with the help of the new LiteTip tool. (The existing Micro Mold tool is too wide and should not be used with LiteTip). 

When to Choose Micro Mold There are a few cases when a Micro Mold might be more appropriate for the patient. • If your patient has a wax problem, the double protection of No Wax in the receiver, plus Wax Stop in the adaptor, provides extra protection. • If you have concerns regarding feedback based on the patient’s history, vent size can be managed with Select a Tubes. These are included for longer Micro Mold vents. EMPOWERING PEOPLE

EMPOWERING PEOPLE 2011 Oticon Focus on People Awards Honor Outstanding People Who Defy the Stigma of Hearing Loss Oticon has announced the recipients of the 2011 Oticon Focus on People Awards, who prove that hearing loss does not limit a person’s ability to live a full, productive, and even inspiring life. The award winners were honored at a special awards ceremony in Los Angeles attended by more than 450 hearing care professionals from across the country. In fourteen years, the Focus on People Awards has brought well deserved recognition to more than 200 extraordinary people who defy the stigma of hearing loss. This year, for the first time, Oticon invited the public to cast their votes to help determine who among the 12 finalists would be first, second and third place winners in four categories. The goal was to expand awareness of the program and its mission by encouraging people to log onto www.oticonusa.com, read the stories of each of the twelve finalists and tell us by their vote who inspired them. More than 3,500 people from across the US voted in this year’s competition.

Among this year’s 1st place winners are: • Kindergarten teacher Jennifer Alberstadt (Adult Category), who actively lobbies to have children with hearing loss assigned to her classroom. • Librarian Sarah Wegley (Advocacy Category) whose award-winning blog, “Speak Up Librarian” invites others with hearing loss to speak out about their own challenges, adventures and achievements. • University of Alabama freshman Dylan Dunlap (Student Category) who has never allowed a progressive hearing loss to dampen his determination to face obstacles, tackle them and move on. At Edmond Santa Fe High School, Dylan led by example as a member of Student Council and President of the Council in senior year. •D onald Sims, PhD (Practitioner Category) a practicing audiologist for more than 43 years, who has served as a leader, clinician, professor and researcher at New Mexico School for the Deaf and the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID). 

“We are both humbled by their accomplishments and inspired by their ability to make a meaningful difference for people with hearing loss,” stated Oticon President Peer Lauritsen.

Oticon “At the Heart of It” Campaign Supports American Heart Association Oticon, Inc. presented a check for $10,000 to the American Heart Association of Central/Southern New Jersey at a special presentation at the company’s Somerset headquarters on Monday, August 1. The donation represents the support of hundreds of hearing care professionals nationwide who participated in Oticon’s special heart and hearing health campaign entitled At the Heart of It...We Put People First. During February and March, Oticon donated a portion of the proceeds from the sale of Agil hearing devices to the American Heart Association.  Issue 18

Are You Missing an Opportunity to Attract New Customers into Your Office? Healthy Hearing, the leading referral site for end users seeking hearing care on the internet, has a strong online presence that places your business at the top of search engine results. This ensures that when an end user is ready to take action on their hearing loss, you are the hearing care professional they call. An important element of this partnership is the clinic profile page that allows you to feature your office, staff and the services you provide. It is imperative that your profile is complete and accurate as it can directly impact the amount of end users that call you after visiting your profile on HealthyHearing.com. Throughout the past year, Healthy Hearing has evaluated the profiles on the website in order to provide insights into actions you can take that will help increase the leads you receive from the website. 

Complete Your Profile Data collected from Healthy Hearing shows that users spend twice as much time on a profile that has been fully completed compared to one that has missing or incomplete information. Ensure that you have included all of the following in your profile and that the information is accurate: information about your company, services provided, hours of operations, methods of payment and information about your staff. Use Simple, Basic Language Because 40% of seniors read at or below a 5th grade level, the language you use should be written in way that is understandable to this audience. Avoid using technical terms and be sure to include words that people use in searches, such as hearing, hearing loss and hearing devices. Add Photos of Your Staff Studies indicate that including photos of your staff on a website increases the site’s credibility. People are more likely to call you to schedule an appointment if they can see who they will be interacting with.

In this video, Jessica Krause, Managing Editor of HealthyHearing.com, provides information about Healthy Hearing and ways to improve your profile. To view, please visit www.NowEffectUSA.com/attract Username: Intiga Password: NowEffect1234
