On behalf of the many members of the Midwest City Chamber of Commerce, it is my pleasure to welcome and encourage you to “make yourself at home” in our community. Excitement and energy abound in Midwest City – we have firstclass education and training opportunities available through Mid-Del Public Schools, MidDel Technology Center and Rose State College - including their STEM, cybersecurity and aerospace programs. – which is the work home for over 26,000 military and civilian employees every day, who are committed to keeping our nation safe by serving as the worldwide manager of a large variety of aircraft, engines, software and avionics and accessory components. These strong partnerships spill over into our business environment, with an increasing number of business opportunities available in a wide array of industries both in start-ups and expansion. Perhaps the most significant attribute, however, is our patriotic community spirit where friends, business, civic and education leaders, along with military dignitaries, work side-by-side to create a community committed to improvement, betterment and growth. The Midwest City Chamber of Commerce hosts many events throughout the year where this community spirit is evident. Please consider this your personal invitation to join us whenever possible. Lastly, we hope you’ll enjoy visiting our “home” so much that you may want to make it yours.

MIDWEST CITY is
PATRIOTIC PATR IOTIC
TRIBUTE TO LIBERTY
This annual family-centered patriotic celebration features music, food trucks and an impressive firework display at dark. Hosted in Joe B. Barnes Regional Park, the fun-filled event kicks off with a warm 4th of July welcome from the Mayor, headlining concert performances from the main stage and the announcement of the Patriotic Pups contest winners. Guests are encouraged to bring picnic baskets, blankets, lawn chairs and park-appropriate toys and activities.
TINKER AFB AIR SHOW
Thrill seekers will not be disappointed by the biennial Tinker AFB Air Show and Open House. All ages are invited to witness high-tempo airborne demonstrations, breathtaking aerial flyovers, fiery pyrotechnics and other modern military and vintage aircraft. The recent addition of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) exhibit inspires innovation and encourages creativity. This impressive exhibit is a great opportunity to realize the value of STEM education in the rapidly growing aerospace industry in Oklahoma. Guests can also enjoy military static displays, musical entertainment, vendor booths, concessions and children’s activities. The Tinker AFB Air Show is one of the metro area’s largest free events and one of the largest air show events in the southwest.
VETERANS DAY PARADE
On Veterans Day, Midwest City salutes those who have fought for the very freedoms we enjoy. Marching bands, car clubs, floats, a fly over and hundreds of spectators waving American flags line the streets of Midwest City showcasing pride and patriotism. The parade is just a small way to thank the men and women who protect us and are a vital part of our community. VI SITMIDWE STCITY.COm /

PATRIOTIC PUPS
This month-long social media photo contest is not only FUN but CUTE! Photos of irresistibly charming canines in patriotic hats, scarves and bows are shared on Facebook and Instagram with #LiveMWC. Photos with the most “likes” are scored 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Mayor’s Favorite. The pups are invited to Midwest City’s Tribute to Liberty, and the winners are introduced. Time is provided to let the dogs make it back home before the firework show. Follow Midwest City Parks & Recreation on Facebook and Instagram for more information!
MIDWEST CITY VETERANS MEMORIAL
The Midwest City Veterans Memorial was dedicated on July 12, 2013, and is a place to commemorate those who have served our country; past, present and future. The Memorial serves as a “living” venue, where people gather to celebrate, remember and pay tribute to our military members while providing awareness of the never-ending selfless contributions of our military services. Located at the Joe Barnes Regional Park, the citizens of Midwest City have created a place of support to show appreciation to our nation’s defenders.
MIDWEST CITY HIGH SCHOOL VIETNAM MEMORIAL & BOMBER PLAZA
The MCHS Vietnam Memorial and Bomber Plaza serves to recognize the sacrifice of all Midwest City High School students who served and currently serve their country and community, with special distinction of the 22 featured on the “Wall of Honor” that paid the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam. The Wall serves as a reminder to both past and future generations, of the hope, dedication and commitment of these students and that there are times when citizens are called upon to set aside their own comfort and self-interest to serve a greater cause. Bomber Plaza also honors those who gave their all in the Oklahoma City bombing and Iraqi Freedom campaign.

A FULFILLING MISSION:
TINKER AIR FORCE BASE
Tinker Air Force Base continues to evolve, meeting the demands of sustaining combat airpower for America.
heightened security warrants closure. People of all ages will find this park rich in Tinker AFB history.
Tinker AFB’s mission began before its establishment as a base and actually predates the United States Air Force. Opened in 1942, Midwest Air Depot employed more than 18,000 military and civilian employees, who repaired and modified B-17, B-24 and B-29 bomber aircraft, as well as C-47 and C-54 cargo aircraft. The depot also overhauled thousands of aircraft engines and shipped supplies around the world. The installation was renamed Tinker Field on Oct. 14, 1942, honoring Maj. Gen. Clarence L. Tinker, an Oklahoma native and part Osage Indian who lost his life leading a group of LB-30 bombers near Wake Island.
The airpark honors retired Maj. Charles B. Hall, a Tuskegee Airman and highly decorated pilot. During World War II, Hall was the first AfricanAmerican pilot to down an enemy aircraft in combat and was the first African-American to receive the Distinguished Flying Cross. Hall worked as a civil service employee at Tinker AFB from 1949 to 1967.
Fast forward to today, Tinker is the largest single-site employer in the state of Oklahoma, generating approximately $1.78 billion in jobs created with a total of $5.96 billion in total annual economic impact. The men and women of Team Tinker are carrying on the proud tradition of those who came before them.
Maj. Charles B. Hall Airpark Open to the Public Tinker’s Maj. Charles B. Hall Airpark, located outside Tinker’s gates, is free and open to the general public. The park, located at the Air Depot Boulevard exit off of Interstate 40, is open dawn to dusk, unless VI SITMIDWE STCITY.COm /

The airpark also features a Medal of Honor Memorial, historical displays and statues honoring Maj. Hall and “Rosie the Riveter.”
Major Organizations on Tinker AFB Air Force Sustainment Center is one of six centers under Air Force Materiel Command. Its mission is to provide sustainment and logistics readiness to deliver combat power for America. AFSC provides operational planning and execution for the Air Force supply chain management and operations and depot maintenance for a wide range of aircraft, engines, missiles and component items. Tinker’s largest organization and part of AFSC is the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Complex. It employs more than 10,500 military and civilian Airmen across its 8.5 million square feet of industrial space. The complex performs programmed depot maintenance and

The complex is responsible for the development and sustainment of a diverse portfolio of missioncritical software for the Air Force and other customers, as well as worldwide aircraft battle damage repair capability for multiple weapon systems.
The Navy’s Strategic Communications Wing 1 has the mission of receiving, verifying and retransmitting Emergency Action Messages to U.S. strategic forces. The wing also operates alert facilities for E-6B aircraft at Travis AFB, California and Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland. Additionally, OC-ALC airframe artisans perform depot work on the Navy’s E-6 Mercury aircraft.
Tinker’s host organization, the 72nd Air Base Wing, provides installation and support services for all of the base’s tenant units. The base, comparable to a city, is made up of 5,500 acres with 458 buildings containing more than 19 million square feet of floor space, including 136 acres of indoor maintenance area and 2,254 acres of ramp space, all supported by the 72nd ABW. The wing provides essential support services for more than 25,000 civilian and military assigned to the base and approximately 2,394 contractors, 18,000 dependents and more than 59,000 military retirees and their family members in a six-county area.
