The Museum of the Western Prairie preserves and tells the story of American Indians, frontier soldiers, cowboys and homesteaders. This museum provides a narrative of the transformation of the Plains Indians, the destruction of the massive buffalo herds, the struggle of reservation confinement, the arrival of cattle drives, and the subsequent settlement of Southwestern Oklahoma. The story of the pioneers confronting and overcoming the harsh environment, the lack of trees and lumber, the scarcity of water, and the remoteness of the area is a compelling one. Artifacts, photographs, documents, special events, and educational programs capture and present the history of this special area. • 1891 Ranch House • Half-Dugout • Windmill • Exhibits, photographs, artifacts, and more Hours: Tues. - Sat. 10am to 5pm Closed: State Holidays Admission: Adults - $7.00, Seniors (62+) - $5.00, Children (5 & under) - Free, Students (6-18) - $4.00, Military (Vets & Active with ID) - Free, See website for additional pricing and discounts OKLAHOMA STATE MUSEUMS 1 1.
