Qn-eetuu^ .... FROM THE PRESIDENT Welcome to this Homecoming. Many people on the campus have planned long and hard to make it a happy and memorable occasion. Alumni and other friends, near and far, have long looked forward to this visit, have planned accordingly, and today are here. One of the main values of Homecoming is the intermingling of the many generations of stu dents past and present. It is good for those now in school to see the graduates of previous years who are now successful men and women in many fields of human endeavor. Likewise it is good for the old grads to take a close look at today s students and see how little or much student life has changed with the passing of years. Have a good time one and all. This football game, the ox roast at Barlow Hall, the play tonight in Cowan Hall, the fraternity and sorority get-togethers, church tomorrow morning, the dedication of Cowan Hall tomorrow afternoon, with plenty of fun and fellowship crowded in between, all together will constitute a full week-end. J. Gordon Howard, ’22

A hearty hello and may this be for you the best Homecoming so far. Sincerely,

President

Salute To Marietta Otterbein is pleased to play host today to the "Pioneers” of Marietta College, Marietta, Ohio, and to their loyal boosters. Marictra, the oldest college in Ohio, was founded in 1797. The first year of intercollegiate football was in 1892; however, the first game with Otterbein was not until 1911. In the first encounter Otterbein won 6-0. This is the twentieth encounter in the series. Both teams are members of the Ohio Athletic Conference.

Otterbein salutes President W. Bay Irvine; athletic director, Donald Drum; and coach Ralph Patton (Marietta, T5), and his assistant, William Whitsel (Glenville, ’46). Marietta’s record to date this season is as follows: Bethany 7 Marietta 6 Anderson 13 Marietta 32 Capital 6 Marietta 6 Wittenberg 26 Marietta 0

Welcome .... FROM THE QUEEN As 1951 Homecoming Queen I have the privilege of welcoming the friends of Otterbein. To the alumni I wish to extend a par ticularly warm welcome, for it is you who have given us the cherished traditions and heritage that are so much a part of us. Today we are again gathered here for a Homecoming celebra tion. This will be only one of many such celebrations, but we hope it will be a memorable one. Let us cheer our team to victory remembering that true victory lies not in the winning or the losing, but in how we play the game. Again, welcome to all! Alice

Football Coaches With George Novotny on leave of absence, the head coaching job is back in the hands of Harry W. Ewing, Di rector of Athletics. Harry did his football playing at the University of Nebraska and has been at Otterbein since 1934. During World War II, when the manpower shortage was most critical, he coached all sports at Otterbein with unusual success. Before coming to Otterbein, he coached at Ohio Wesleyan and Miami Universities. Assisting Coach Ewing is Richard West, who learned his football at Springfield College. He came to Otterbein in 1947 to direct the intramural program. He recently received his Master’s degree at Ohio State. With a few good breaks these capable coaches should turn out a winning team.
