• Polycarbonate panels lining the interior of the aircraft have become damaged from age and use. The SPO does not have an effective repair method. OBJECTIVES • Test various repair methods to determine which would work with the panels • Deliver written instructions for the repair methods and test results

METHODS
• Plastic welding allowed repairs to be made using patches made out of polycarbonate or a wire mesh being melted into the damaged area (ASTM D638 – 14) • An adhesive was tested using the single lap shear method (ASTM D1002 – 10) RESULTS • Plastic welding proves to be a more robust repair than other methods attempted. • Repairs can be selected and sutured to specific modes of failure.
RESULTS
• Double Side Plastic Welding approaches the closest unbroken ultimate tensile stress. CONCLUSIONS • The adhesive based method can be used as a patch • The plastic welding is a strong method for repair for a variety of crack sizes • The repair procedures and experimental data were documented and reported to the SPO as key deliverables
