uses song & dance “ in a way I’ve never experienced in an American musical.” W - The New York Times
INNER OF EIGHT 2012 TONY AWARDS® INCLUDING BEST MUSICAL, ONCE is a truly original Broadway experience. Featuring an impressive ensemble of actor/musicians who play their own instruments onstage, ONCE tells the enchanting tale of a Dublin street musician who’s about to give up on his dream when a beautiful young woman takes a sudden interest in his haunting love songs. As the chemistry between them grows, his music soars to powerful new heights... but their unlikely connection turns out to be deeper and more complex than your everyday romance. Emotionally captivating and theatrically breathtaking, ONCE draws you in from the very first note and never lets go. It’s an unforgettable story about going for your dreams ... not living in fear ... and the power of music to connect all of us.

BLACK VIOLIN is the blend of classical, hip-hop, rock, R&B, and bluegrass music. Accompanied by a drummer and a DJ, Black Violin (declared one of the “hottest bands of SXSW”) has been performing to standing-room-only crowds. Named after an album by African-American preeminent jazz swingera violinist Stuff Smith, Wil Baptiste and Kev Sylvester perform an average of 200 shows per year and have brought their music to 49 states and 36 countries. Their groundbreaking collaboration has seen them play their music for everybody from the troops in Iraq to both the official President’s Inaugural Ball and the Kids Inaugural in Washington, DC, where Barack Obama himself gave each a hearty hand-shake. Individually and together, Black Violin has collaborated with the likes of P. Diddy, Kanye West, 50 Cent, Tom Petty, Aerosmith, Aretha Franklin and The Eagles.

Now in her seventh decade, with the release of her new album Livin’ on a High Note (ANTI-), she is only gaining momentum. Since her first recording at age 13 in 1954, Mavis Staples has learned from, worked with, and schooled countless legends, and has brought her own timeless talent to every performance. She has embraced her evolution, absorbing new sounds and ideas, rising to meet the challenges of longevity and bringing her message of hope and positivity to new listeners, song after song, show after show.

NPR named the recording one of five ”Must Hear International Albums.“ Fast forward a couple of years—through 2 Africa Tours and a 4-month US Tour with stops at 25 universities, the Lincoln Center and the United Nations—and almost every major media outlet in the US agrees that the Nile Project is much more than just a band.
