Carey Robinson-Hammond was born to the late Sam and Lula Robinson on O ctober 11, 1930. Carey accepted Christ at an early age, and was baptized at Hayes Creek Missionary Baptist Church and attended school in Franklinton, LA. After which she met and fell in love and married the only one true love in her life, Roosevelt Hammond. They were united in marriage O ctober 11, 1952 in Franklinton, LA. To this union three beautiful children were born; Christopher, Joseph & Erika.

Carey was a country girl that was destined for the big city of Chicago. When she arrived in Chicago as a Newlywed she began to exemplify her natural born character of Prayer, Peace, Power and Poise. “The Bible says in James the 5 chapter the effectual fervent Prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

“Matthew the 5 chapter says Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God.”

Carey was a peacemaker and a peacekeeper she knew how to reconcile and restore family with good food. She would dice, blend and stir together homemade meals for every occasion. She knew how to make a five layer punch bowl cake for her grandchildren's birthdays and our families all time favorite German Chocolate Cake. Carey was the real life Big Ma that created food for the soul. “Proverbs 13 says He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.” Carey had a powerful right, hand her children can attest to this. I believe it was a trademark of the Robinson women. She didn't play when it came to discipline.

In 1953 she joined the First House of Prayer under the leadership of Prophet L. K. Johnson where she served in the Choir and on the Deaconess Board. Later she moved her membership to The Greater House of Prayer under the leadership of Pastor Galen W. Leverette were she remained a faithful member until her death. Carey was not only a Prayer warrior she was an intercessor. She knew how to enter her secret closet and plead for the needs of her family and she refused to let go and come out until God's will came to pass. Carey even had warfare songs that she learned in the country and brought to the city .

Carey is survived by her three children: Christopher (Helen), Joseph and Erika Hammond; five grandchildren: Marlon, Chris Jr. (Roshaynae), Katrina (Maurice), Hannah-Joy and O livia; seven great-grand children: Stormi, Kareem, Khaliq, Kaitlyn, Matthew, Destiny and Diamond; two sisters: Gertrude Roberson and Lillie M. Sartin and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones. Carey was preceded in death by her husband; Roosevelt Hammond, parents; Sam and Lula Wilson-Robinson, seven sisters and four brothers.

"Make the devil leave me alone" & "Me and the devil had a tussle but I won".

We’ll miss those hard blinks, questions that make us think, you hollering Roosevelt, telling the boys to wear a belt. Asking about school and grades, wondering if we made all A’s; Enjoying the holidays with you. We’ll miss your special cakes too. As our journey ends together, we had a wonderful great grandmother, one who never grew old, her smile was made of sunshine, and her heart was solid gold; but take heed, because she’s still keeping a eye on all of us. So we will make sure she likes what she sees. We Love You Nana Love, Stormi, Kareem, Khaliq, Kaitlyn and Matthew

It’s always sad but comforting to silently recall your smile and dear familiar face so loved by one and all. For the world may keep turning and changing from day to day….but precious memories of you will never fade away. And here’s hoping that this message which carries so much love…will somehow find its way to you in heaven up above. Its to let you know “Big Ma” that, although you are at rest… you’ll live forever in the hearts of those who loved you best. We love you and will miss you Big Ma. Forever in our Hearts, Marlon, Chris Jr. and Trina
