HIS STORY Gustave Armand McKenna, III was born on June 22, 1959 to Gustave Armand McKenna, Jr. and Cynthia Ferbos McKenna. He was the only child born to that union.
Gus grew up and received his formal education in New Orleans, Louisiana. He graduated from Saint Augustine Catholic High School and attended Xavier University before entering the work force. He was employed by The Chevron Oil Company as a draftsman, was a very successful car salesman for Banner Chevrolet and a manager / salesman for Frito Lay before retiring. In his early years, Gus was quite the social magnet and was one of New Orleans most eligible and elusive bachelors. He collected knives, a passion he shared with Eugene, he loved to fish and was a diehard Saints Fan. Win or lose… that was his team. Whatever he did, he gave it his all. Li’l Sydney remembers when they were young, Gus would ride him on the handle bars of his English racer… as fast as they could go… always about to fall, but Gus would never let him fall. Gus also liked to play pool… he and Uncle Sid had a running argument regarding who was best… each thought himself the best player and Gus would never admit that Uncle Sid beat him.
Gus was an excellent father. He combed hair, changed diapers, went to PTA, grounded you for breaking curfew and always let you know that he loved you and you had all that he had to give. The Gus we all knew was one that liked to cook and eat. You could find him at home listening to music while cooking. He would cook an entire meal as if it were a holiday, enjoy the meal and then laugh saying “you know, I cooked like I was having company and had the music blasting. I really did it good. I forgot I was here by myself.” “When I could not sleep, I could call him in the wee hours and he would share stories about our family that I did not know and we would share recipes for the foods that we remembered having at family gatherings when we were young,” one relative shared. Even though he was an only child, he said Li’l Sid and Eugene were his brothers and Crystal was his little sister. The message Crystal left for him is … In the end, three things will never fail, Faith, Hope and Love. The greatest of these is Love. I love you and will miss you. We will all miss him.
Gus is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by three children Dominique McKennaTurner, Kristie Carr and Gustave Armand McKenna, IV; six grandchildren, Krista, Jaylin, Taylor, Camryn, Cleven, IV and Zoey; Goddaughter, Synaea; one aunt, Mrs. Alma Ferbos; one uncle, Sidney Ferbos, Sr. and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

“I Will Always Be With You”
The day has come to say goodbye, hold your head up try not to cry I’m not gone for good you will see me again I have gone home to my Father where my life just begins Don’t ever think the Lord is being unfair,
He tried to make everyone well aware When I was born into this world, I was not yours to own, My life with you was only a loan I have graduated from earth with the highest degree I majored in life and death, and now I am free I accepted my life certificate with honor so be proud of me
Always remember this was meant to be. I love you and I know you love me, I will always be with you spiritually. You have been there for me, now I must travel alone I will be waiting to greet you when it’s your time to come home.
All My Love… Gus

When Tomorrow Starts Without Me When tomorrow starts without me And I’m not here to see If the sun should rise and find Eyes filled with tears for me I wish so much you wouldn't cry The way you did on my departing day
While thinking of the many things We didn't get to say I know how much you love me As much as I love you And each time you think of me I know you will miss me too
When tomorrow starts without me Don't think we’re far apart For every time you think of me I'm right there in your heart
