Michelle “Mekey” Williams, 50, of Houston, TX was called home on Wednesday January 18, 2017 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Houston, Texas. Mekey was born on January 23, 1966, to the late Melva Laverne Williams and Eddie Joseph, Sr. in New Iberia, LA. She was an honors graduate at New Iberia Senior High School in 1984 and received an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix.

Mekey devoted her life to caring for her five heartbeats, as she affectionately called them. She enjoyed cooking for Deandrick “Mooka” (Andrea’), Aquandre “Hamma”, Jaquandria “GG”, Imani and Taj, as she believed that the way to the heart was through the stomach. She was an even prouder grandmother to Imari and Jackson. She spent hours on end bragging and spoiling them. Her love for her family was undeniable.

After moving to Houston in 2013, Michelle began a job as a Special Education paraprofessional at Cardiff Junior High School. She had a special gift for working with children and was loved by her colleagues. Michelle radiated with pride when she was able to teach her students life skills that no one else thought they would be able to learn. She prided herself on being able to help even the most difficult student. Her colleagues enjoyed having her around. They often said that she brightened up their day and spoiled them with good food and good laughs. The aroma of her lunch filled the hallway and it didn’t take people long to discover whose lunch it was. Left to cherish Mekey’s memory are her three brothers and two sisters: Milton Williams (Vanessa), Larry Williams, Sr. (Federica), and Diane Williams, of Lawton, Oklahoma; and Jerry Williams and Shirley Barnes, of New Iberia, Louisiana. Although she was the youngest of her siblings, she considered herself the “little-big sister”. She would often say that she "talked older than the rest” proclaiming herself as the boss. Michelle’s gift to those that knew her was her lively and free spirit; she was the person to call if there was an event to be planned both big and small. She was also the person to call if you were in need of someone to go to bat for you. She spoke her mind and loved hard. You could always count on her for a good snack, a good drink, or a good laugh. Her unwavering belief in God and great sense of humor kept family, friends and acquaintances going during difficult times. Without her, our days will be less lively. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

My Grandmother… My Angel I had an angel here beside me, Sent to Earth to help and guide me, An angel always there for me Sent to love and care for me. She did the things that angels should: She taught me what was bad and good, She gave me hope when no one cared, She held my hand when I was scared, She cheered me up when I was down (She could make a smile from a frown), She doctored me when I was sick, And many another angel tricks. Today my angel earned her wings, Her halo, harp and other things. But today I'm lost and all alone For today God took my grandma home. Imari and Jackson

The Broken Chain Author: Ron Tranmer
We little knew that day, God was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly, In death, we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you. You did not go alone. For part of us went with you, The day God called you home. You left us beautiful memories, Your love is still our guide. And although we cannot see you, You are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, And nothing seems the same, But as God calls us one by one, The chain will link again. Love Shirley, Milton, Diane, Jerry & Nick

A Mother’s Love…
WHEN I LOST YOU I wish I could see you one more time Come walking through the door But I know that is impossible I will hear your voice no more. I know you can feel my tears And you don’t want me to cry Yet my heart is broken because I can’t understand why someone so precious had to die. I pray that God will give me strength And somehow get me through As I struggle with this heartache That came when I lost you. Deandrick, Aquandre, Jaquandria, Imani & Taj
