Her Story Minnie Lee Washington, affectionately known as “Mameyo,” was born on March 28, 1926 to the late Corine Coleman and the late David Crawford, in Birmingham, AL. She grew up in Birmingham, AL, and later moved to Bogalusa, LA before finally making New Orleans her home. Minnie married the late Edward J. Washington and was the mother of 8 children. She worked as a caregiver for many years and enjoyed baking her homemade sweet potato and pecan pies and preparing her one-of-akind mustard greens. Minnie loved the Lord and was a faithful servant. At her passing, she was a member of The Asia Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Kenneth G. Thibodeaux. She was a proud member of “The Biggest Little Church in the World.” She served on the Usher and Deaconess Boards under the leadership of the late Rev. Zebadee Bridges, Sr. Her favorite scripture was Proverbs 3:5-6; Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Minnie enjoyed crafting, gardening and going to Mercy Endeavors Senior Citizen Center here in New Orleans. She also loved spending quality time with her big sister. Some will remember her contagious smile, others will remember her sweet spirit, but all will remember her for the love she showed to her family and friends. She will be deeply missed. Minnie was preceded in death by her son, Gregory Crawford and her grandson, Joseph Ducros. She leaves to cherish her fond memories, her children, Patricia Wilson, David Crawford (Jarlene), Kenneth Crawford (Trina), Desiree Ross, Michael Washington (Aloma), Edward Washington (Fatessa) and Michelle Johnson (Lee); 18 grandchildren, Colette (Don), David, Jr. (Tayan), Sequilla (Yolanda), Christopher (Angela), Dechana, Catina (Rashad), Wallace (Kathy), Brandi, Donette, Labria, Adrianne (Dwayne), Roy, Kenneth, Korry, Elaysha, Breeon, Edward and Carolyn; 22 greatgrandchildren, Charlie, Kristen, Robert, III, Rashad, Jr., David, III, Camren, Corinne, Bailey, Peyton, Donte, Danai, Kenneth, Kiyaah, Kenaedie, Kingston, Kendall, Chrishel, Christopher, Jr., Bernice, Caden, Jayden and Romiya; her siblings, Rosie Lee Smooth and Edgar Crawford; 1 godchild, Keith Sykes; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.

A Mother’s Love –Helen Steiner Rice

A Mother’s love is something that no one can explain, It is made of deep devotion and of sacrifice and pain, It is endless and unselfish and enduring come what may For nothing can destroy it or take that love away . . . It is patient and forgiving when all others are forsaking, And it never fails or falters even though the heart is breaking . . . It believes beyond believing when the world around condemns, And it glows with all the beauty of the rarest, brightest gems . . . It is far beyond defining, it defies all explanation, And it still remains a secret like the mysteries of creation . . . A many splendored miracle man cannot understand And another wondrous evidence of God’s tender guiding hand. Love Always, Your Children, Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren
