A precious gift from us is gone, a voice we love is still, A vacant place in our hearts, that can never be filled.

His Life And behold I come quickly and my reward is with me to give to every man according as his work shall be. Revelation 22:12.

Charlie Ward was born on October 26, 1935 to the late Mr. Otis Ward and the late Mrs. Frances Walker Ward in Lanehart, MS. On August 25, 1957, Charlie was united in Holy Matrimony to his high school sweetheart, Alberta Barnes Ward. To this union, one daughter was born, Jacqueline Andrea Ward August. At an early age Charlie accepted Christ and became a member of the Magnolia Baptist Church of Lessley, Mississippi. After moving to New Orleans, he became a member of the Law Street Baptist Church and then on September 28, 1963, he became a member of the Ephesus Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Charlie learned at an early age from his father to work hard, to be very independent and yet to be the person others could depend on. Charlie attended school in Woodville, MS and graduated from Johnson High School. After moving to New Orleans, LA, he worked days, attended classes at night and earned a vocational school certificate from Sidney N. Collier School in Radio and TV Repair. Charlie was employed at what was previously known as Dickey’s Potato Chips (Borden Snack Foods) but when the company closed down, he established his own independent snack business to support himself and his family. He was a very devoted husband and dad. He would work and do anything ethically to make sure his family was taken care of. Charlie was a faithful member in all of the churches he attended. After joining the Ephesus Seventh-Day Adventist Church, he sang in the choir, and served on the Male Usher Board. He was ordained as a Deacon of the Ephesus Seventh-Day Adventist Church by Pastor D.J. Williams on March 14, 1970. He served as Head Deacon for more than 35 years. He served with great dignity and respect until his health failed him in November 2017. Charlie marked some of his favorite texts in his Bible, to name a few: Exodus 13:21-22, Exodus 20:7-11, 1 Kings 17:7, 1 Kings 17:17-24, Matthew 5:20, John 14:1-3 and Revelation 14:9-13.

Charlie also loved to sing. One of his favorite songs was

“I’d Rather Have Jesus.” I’d rather have Jesus than silver and gold I’d rather be His than have riches untold I’d rather have Jesus than houses and land I’d rather be led by His nail pierced hands Than to be the king of a vast domain Or be held in sin’s dread sway I’d rather have Jesus than anything This world affords to-day. I’d rather have Jesus than your applause I’d rather be faithful to His dear cause I’d rather have Jesus than world-wide fame I’d rather be true to His holy name He’s fairer than lilies of rarest bloom He’s sweeter than honey from out the comb He’s all that my hungering spirit needs I’d rather have Jesus and let Him lead

You Told Me That You Loved Me…

You showed me that you loved me, From that day until now; And I still love you, and will miss you, With God’s help, I’ll make it somehow. Yes you told me in the good times, That your love would remain. And you told me in the bad times, That your love would never change. You showed me that you loved me, In every single way. And that’s why I’ll always love you, You’re in my heart every day. Yes you told me that you loved me, That’s what I heard you say; And forever I will love you, Wait for me, we’ll meet again On that Resurrection Day. All My Love, Berta

Until We Meet Again…

You told me that you loved me, It was the best I had ever heard. I told you that I loved you, You put faith in my word.

Expressions of Appreciation It is with our deepest appreciation and most profound sincerity, we express our gratitude to each of you, our Ephesus church family, Christian family, our neighbors, our friends, employees of Heart of Hospice and anyone who thought of us. To those who have lifted us up in prayer, shown acts of kindness, visits, telephone calls and sent cards, we thank you. You have warmed our hearts and eased our sorrow. Special thanks to Patrick French who came to our home every morning, early between 7:00 – 7:30 am to see whatever he could do to help during Charlie’s failing health. We have seen and felt God’s love through each one of you.

Sincerely, The Ward and Barnes Families
