Mildred “Nanny Pichon

Rister

November 7, 1934 - August 30, 2015

Her Story Mildred Pichon Rister, affectionately known as Nanny Mildred, was born on November 7, 1934 to the late Stanislaus & Alice Diaz Pichon. She entered into eternal rest on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at the age of 80. Nanny Mildred grew up in the 7th ward of New Orleans, LA. She accepted Christ at an early age at St. Raymond where she attended school and was a life-long member of St. Raymond Catholic Church. Nanny Mildred married the love of her life; Charles “Sunny” Rister, on December 21, 1951, and God blessed that union with a beautiful daughter; Joy Marie Rister. Nanny Mildred was a fun, spiritual and loving person. Her hobbies were spending money and gambling. She loved the casino and playing the quarter machines; and two weeks before she passed, she won $11.00 at bingo. She enjoyed watching the Saints play football and she always had to have her potato soup, oysters, crawfish bisque, Mary Jane’s candy and Orange Crush soda. And after all of that gambling, she would run to church for Saturday mass. Nanny Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Stanislaus Pichon and Alice Diaz Pichon and her brother, Lionel Pichon, Sr. She leaves to cherish her memories, a daughter, Joy Rister Amador (Cinencio); granddaughter, Rona Coleman; great grandsons, Eli Alexander and Ezra Charles; two sisters, Carolyn DeGruy and Sandra Dalcour; devoted nieces, Donya Ralph, Leslie Wilson and Tiffany DeGruy; nephews, Lionel Pichon, Jr. (Bubba), Wayne DeGruy, Jr. Aaron DeGruy, Sr., Cheyenne and Jamie Pichon; godchildren, Thyra Ferguson and Don Boutan and a devoted caretaker and nephew, Lance Ferguson.

Mama… If I ever need a reason to believe in the sheer power of UNCONDITIONAL LOVE and UNSTOPPABLE FAITH, all I have to do is think of my Mama Mama, I just want to thank you for all you’ve done for me. I realize raising a child like me hasn’t always been easy. But you’ve always been there for me with YOUR SUPPORT, YOUR COMFORT, YOUR ADVICE and EXPERIENCE – even when I seemed determined to get my experience the hard way! Because of that steadfast love, you’ve been someone I could respect, look up to, and LOVE in return. And, Mama, I want you to know I still love you… And I always will. Joy
