“A Life Well Lived”
February 22, 1912 - April 24, 2014
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Psalms 27
was the seventh of ten children born to Elihu and Nellie Ratliff Elmore on February 22, 1912, in Patterson, LA. She made her transition from labor to reward on April 24, 2014. Sis. Wilson was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest John Wilson, daughter, Deborah Nell Wilson, her parents, and all of her siblings (Emily, Ada, Amanda, Mary, Steve, Arthur, Chaney, Wesley and Ida Belle). Sis. Wilson and her siblings were raised in a Christian home. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a life-long teacher and speaker about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She attended school in St. Mary Parish during her early years, but was homeschooled by her father who taught all of his children. She loved reading the Bible and solving crossword puzzles in the Times Picayune newspaper. When she moved to New Orleans in the 1940’s, she met and eventually married Ernest John Wilson on September 20, 1944. To this union seven children were born. Sis. Wilson joined Law Street Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Eddie B. Scott. She was a Sunday School teacher for 50 years and diligently served on the Deaconess Board. She was an accomplished seamstress who could sew anything from a simple skirt to a wedding dress. She was also PTA President of Robert R. Moton Elementary School during the years that all seven of her kids attended. Family was important to Sadie. Throughout the years many relatives from Patterson stayed in her home in New Orleans while she cared for them and accompanied them to the hospital. She had a giving heart and never turned her back on those in need - whether family or a stranger. In August 2005, at the age of 93, Sadie survived the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina, living at the Convention Center for five days after the devastation of New Orleans, BUT, she was a prayer warrior who, despite the circumstances, found the strength to encourage others during one of America’s darkest moments. Sis. Wilson leaves to cherish her memory her children, Beverly (Mack) Hines of East Point, GA; Ernest (Darlene) Wilson, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; Cynthia (Ronald) Gardner of New Orleans, LA; Karen Edwards of Dayton, OH; Eric Wilson of Atlanta, GA; Sadie Davis of East Point, GA; grandchildren, Reshone (Steve) Sorrell; Stephen Brown; Rod (Carina) Brown; Don (Yolanda) Johnson; Oginga Edwards; Hakim (Tam) Edwards; Abeni Edwards; Corey (Keita) Wilson; Blake Wilson; Ajene Moye; Jason Gardner; 16 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; Goddaughter Betty Preston; dear friend Yvonne Jackson; countless nieces nephews, friends; Pastor and Sis. Arvie and the Law St. Missionary Baptist Church Family, and her adopted St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church Family in East Point, GA. She has fought the good fight, she has finished her course, she has kept the faith!

A Mother’s Love A Mother’s love is something that no one can explain, It is made of deep devotion and of sacrifice and pain, It is endless and unselfish and enduring come what may For nothing can destroy it or take that love away . . . It is patient and forgiving when all others are forsaking, And it never fails or falters even though the heart is breaking . . . It believes beyond believing when the world around condemns, And it glows with all the beauty of the rarest, brightest gems . . . It is far beyond defining, it defies all explanation, And it still remains a secret like the mysteries of creation . . . A many splendored miracle man cannot understand And another wondrous evidence of God’s tender guiding hand.

O God, Our Help In Ages Past
O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, our shelter from the stormy blast, and our eternal home.
Under the shadow of thy throne, still may we dwell secure; sufficient is thine arm alone, and our defense is sure.
Before the hills in order stood, or earth received her frame, from everlasting, thou art God, to endless years the same.
A thousand ages, in thy sight, are like an evening gone; short as the watch that ends the night, before the rising sun.
Time, like an ever rolling stream, bears all who breathe away; they fly forgotten, as a dream dies at the opening day.
O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come; be thou our guide while life shall last, and our eternal home.
