Her Story Otterly May Alma Constantine was born on July 20, 1926 to the late Edward Boyd and Ruth Martin Boyd. She was born at Flint Goodrich Hospital, the only black owned hospital ever operated in the State of Louisiana. She was formally educated in the New Orleans public school system. She furthered her education becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse, working at various hospitals in the New Orleans Metro area for over 30 years. Otterly married John Short and two children were born to that union, Jerroldyn and John Short, Jr.. She later married William E. Constantine and from that union two children were born, Jeffrey and Jerald Constantine. “Miss May” as she was affectionately called, was generous, kind and loving and was loved by her family, friends and neighbors. She was a stern and compassionate mother who was also a hard working nurse and an excellent cook. She was a very devout Christian who loved the Catholic Church, roses and sunshine. As a testament to her faith, St. Theresa Little Flower Catholic Church awarded her the St. Louis Medallion for her volunteer service as a singer. “Miss May” loved attending mass, gardening, while she was able, and one of her favorite pass-times was having her hair done on a weekly basis. She also spent hours “visiting” with her many friends on the telephone. “Miss May” is survived by her children, Jerroldyn (Roland), John (Jean), Jeffery and an adopted daughter, Cynthia Carter (Newton); 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 6 great great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her son Jerald A. Constantine.

Favorite & Frequent Saying: “The Holy Spirit guides me and leads me.”
