CORAL SPRINGS COMMISSION JANUARY MESSAGE

Cheers to 60 years! The City of Coral Springs will mark its 60th Anniversary with a series of events and celebrations throughout 2023.

Growing from a master-planned “city in the country” to a thriving suburban hub, Coral Springs was first incorporated in 1963 as “the last piece of gold on the gold coast” and has since become home to more than 134,000 residents. Known for celebrating milestone years with a big bash or an attention-grabbing spectacle, city staff intend to keep with tradition by implementing larger-than-life plans for marking the 60th year.

The 60th year celebrations will kick off with Campout Coral Springs from Saturday, January 28 to Sunday, January 29. Families can embark on an overnight camping adventure at the Sportsplex Athletic Field (2800 Sportsplex Drive) with s’mores, a double-feature movie, outdoor activities, and more. Capacity is limited for this first-of-its-kind, community event. More information on 60th events can be found at CoralSprings.gov/60.

The city’s Parks and Recreation Department is starting the new year with two free family events this month. Game Night at the Ice Den, an all-ages event with ice skating, food, and games, will take place on Thursday, January 5 at 6 p.m. Juice Box Jam, a parent-and-me indoor play program held monthly for toddlers, will kick off on Thursday, January 19 at 10 a.m. at the Coral Springs Gymnasium (2501 Coral Springs Drive.) More events can be found at CoralSprings.gov/events.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee is accepting nominations for the 2023 MLK Monument Award. Applicants can be an individual or organization in Coral Springs who embodies the ideals of Dr. King. The deadline to submit applications is January 20. Apply at CoralSprings.gov/MLK.

The Coral Springs Police Department, in partnership with Shred Monkeys, will host a free Shred-A-Thon event for city residents at the Sportsplex (2575 Sportsplex Drive) on Saturday, January 21 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. All residents are reminded to prevent identity theft, it is critical to properly dispose of information-sensitive documents. More information can be found at CoralSprings.gov/shredathon.

Finally, a new year brings a chance to not only reflect on how far we’ve come, but also peer forward to the promise of a bright future. As your city representatives, we are excited to look ahead as we further our mission to be the premier community in which to live, work, and raise a family.

This month’s Commission Meeting will take place on Wednesday, January 11 at 6:30 p.m. As always, the public is invited to attend or view Commission meetings. The meetings are aired on CityTV, Blue Stream Channels 25, 25.7, 725 and on AT&T U-Verse channel 99. Meetings are also live streamed at CoralSprings.gov/CityTV..
