Living in South Florida has so many incredible perks. For much of the year, our weather is unparalleled, our beaches are envied around the world and South Florida’s culture is second to none. Of course, with all that good, we do get a bit of bad: hurricanes.

As we stay on the lookout for upcoming storms, it’s important to think about what will be needed in the event of a hurricane. After an emergency, you may need to survive on your own for several days. Being prepared means having your own food, water, and other supplies to last for several days. A disaster supplies kit is a collection of basic items your household may need in the event of an emergency.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency recommends each family create a disaster supplies kit in one or two easy-tocarry containers like plastic bins or large duffle bags. Make sure your items are stored inside air-tight plastic bags.
