Davie Update

MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR DAVIE UPDATE By Mayor Judy Paul

We are excited to announce that the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department will resume hosting our monthly Veterans event at the Pine Island Multipurpose Center. For the initial resumption of the program, we hosted a Veterans Lunch on Tuesday, June 29th from 12:00 pm until 3:00 pm. Mission BBQ graciously sponsored the luncheon and catered the event. With COVID-19 in mind, all food was prepackaged prior to being distributed to the attendees. Approximately 65 veterans attended the event and were happy to say hello in person. We even got some hugs! Veterans represented every branch of the armed services and included those who served in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and Desert Storm. God bless our veterans and the sacrifices they made to protect our freedoms.

We are in the final phases of our budget preparation for fiscal year 2022. Presently, we have a balanced budget with no increases in the millage rate or the fire fee and a reduction in the debt service as well as the garbage costs. I will provide more specific information and, as usual, welcome your participation in the public hearings.

I went to the opening of a new restaurant on Griffin Road in the new University Point development. PHO BAR is a beautiful full-service Vietnamese dining experience. Please visit and enjoy some delicious cuisine. Also in the area is the Garden Grill which is under new ownership. Located on Orange Drive just east of Grif’s Western, it is still a place where I can bump into many of the old-timers. The menu is varied and the food is excellent.

Speaking about food: I am planning on reinstating my meet and greets at local restaurants in September. I will post invites on FB. It will change location and times so that it will accommodate any calendar. I will cover the cost of all beverages.
