BAYVIEW ELEMENTARY STUDENTS DONATE TEDDY BEARS FOR KIDS FACING TRAUMA

Bayview Elementary School students gave away teddy bears as a tribute to a young boy who passed away nearly two years ago after a small plane collided with the car he was in. Taylor Bishop, a four-year-old, was carrying his beloved teddy bear named Chevy at the time of the crash, which became a treasured possession for his mother, Megan Bishop. The donation took place at the end of February in a touching tribute to the lost boy.

The donation of these teddy bears in honor of Taylor's memory was an idea inspired by Chevy, which Megan Bishop believes was a sign from God to carry out her son's legacy.

“I don’t even know if I will ever be able to put into words what that meant to me because I knew when I received the bear my son had passed,” commented Megan, “so just having the bear back gave me some sense of comfort because he loved him so much.”

The teddy bears will be distributed to children in need of comfort by the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, as first responders have found that they often serve as an icebreaker during critical incidents.

Sergeant Nicole Graves expressed appreciation for the donations and assured that the teddy bears would be put to good use, “When you go into a critical incident and you have a teddy bear, that’s your ice breaker,” Sgt. Nicole Graves said. “Trust me, we’re going to put these teddy bears to use.” ooking for a way to keep your child engaged and active during the summer months? Look no further than Summer Camp!
