Miramar Update

As we approach the summer months, you may have begun to plan summer activities and travel with the family. The beauty of South Florida is that we can choose to do a staycation here in South Florida, visit the Caribbean or catch a flight to visit any one of our United States. All of this is wonderful but let’s remember that with the official start of summer also comes Hurricane Season in our beloved area. It’s important that as we make arrangements for the fun things we do, we also take proper precautions and plan for the unknowns as well. The City of Miramar Fire-Rescue Department has the complete preparedness guide on their website which can be found here, https://www.miramarfl. gov/283/Emergency-Management. Please take time to be prepared for all the things that may occur during the summer.

The post pandemic migration to South Florida, along with a great quality of life in Miramar, has played a part in the escalating property values we are seeing with record sales exceeding $1.5 million for homes and apartment rental rates in our city making Miramar one of the least affordable cities in Florida according to the Sun-Sentinel. This news is a double edge sword of sorts - while we love the fact that our property values are at an all-time high, there are many of our young adults, the working class and seniors who are being displaced. To address housing barriers for our seniors, our city is currently building 2 senior affordable housing projects as Public Private Partnerships. Casa Sant’ Angelo will provide 130 units and is in partnership with The Archdiocese of Miami. The second senior housing development is in partnership with Pinnacle and details to apply will be communicated at a later date. With the completion of these developments, our parents and senior loved ones can have a place of their own with services that enable them to enjoy their best years and meet a much needed service in our great city.

One more item, I would like to congratulate all of our graduating seniors. We are proud of them for reaching this milestone and wish our future leaders the best in the next phase of their lives. Yours in Service,
