February Message

CORAL SPRINGS COMMISSION FEBRUARY MESSAGE

As we kicked off the new year we were once again met with the challenges of COVID-19. Thankfully city staff and local healthcare partners stepped in to offer new test sites at three city locations as we saw record COVID-19 cases. Our greatest priority is the safety, health and wellness of the residents we serve, as a result many of the activites and events we planned for January were postponed. We encourage residents to visit coralsprings.org/events or text the keyword CORALSPRINGS to 888-777 for the most up-to-date event information.

Our goal is to continue with our planned State of the City Concert on February 19. Join us as we celebrate the achievements of the last year, honor our volunteers and committee members and celebrate with great music and food. The event will take place on the Great Lawn of City Hall (9500 West Sample Road) from 6-10 p.m. Should the event be postponed, we will keep residents informed through our social platforms and city’s website.

In February we celebrate Black History Month, and are excited to celebrate the achievements and contributions of Black Americans in our community. Learn more about local Black leaders in our community by visiting www.coralsprings.org/bhm.

This month and every day since February 14, 2018, we remember and honor the 17 students and staff who died at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. We also remember all who were injured and forever touched by the violence experienced that day. We always look for meaningful ways to commemorate and honor the memories of: Alyssa Alhadeff, Scott Beigel, Martin Duque, Nicholas Dworet, Aaron Feis, Jaime Guttenberg, Christopher Hixon, Luke Hoyer, Cara Loughran, Gina Montalto, Joaquin Oliver, Alaina Petty, Meadow Pollack, Helena Ramsay, Alex Schachter, Carmen Schentrup and Peter Wang.

For residents and community members who continue to struggle with mental health, especially in the wake of such loss, there are many resources available. Please call 2-1-1 for suicide intervention, those at risk can also text “FL” to 741-741 to immediately speak with a counselor. For additional resources – we offer resources on our website at www.coralsprings.org/mentalhealth.

Our next Commission Meeting will take place on February 2nd and 16th at 6:30 p.m. Meetings are aired on CityTV, Blue Stream Channels 25, 25.7, 725 and on AT&T U-Verse channel 99. Meetings are also live streamed at CoralSprings.org/CityTV.
