MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR: PEMBROKE PINES September Update

BY FRANK C. ORTIS, MAYOR OF PEMBROKE PINES

Dear Readers:

The City of Pembroke Pines invites you to honor the victims, their families and the heroes of 911. Please join us for a VIRTUAL Patriot Day Remembrance Ceremony on Friday, September 11, 2020 at 8:30 a.m. The ceremony will begin with the Presentation of Colors by the City of Pembroke Pines Police and Fire Department Honor Guard followed by a few words from me and your Commissioners. We will observe a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. (Eastern Daylight Time), which marks the time that the first plane flew into the World Trade Center, and reflect on the importance of this day.

Please note that due to COVID 19, this event will not be open to the public but we ask that you join us via the City’s Facebook and Instagram accounts and show your support. We encourage everyone to fly the American Flag at halfstaff on this day. We must never forget the sacrifices of the victims of 911, and continue to honor all first responders by showing our respect and unity as a nation. For more information regarding the City of Pembroke Pines observance of Patriot Day, please call 954-392-2116.

While we don’t like to think about it, September 10th marks the peak of our hurricane season. I encourage everyone to please be prepared and visit our city website at www.ppines.com/hurricane for information needed before a storm is on our doorstep. There are videos, resources, and information touching on all aspects of hurricane preparation, and what to do during and after a storm.

As we are also in the time when snakes are most active in our area, I also urge you to visit www.ppines.com/snakesafety for information on how to remain safe and what to do should you be bitten by a snake. It’s incredibly important that our residents remain safe and are informed. As we continue to navigate through these challenging times, I am reminded of how fortunate we are to be part of a strong community that supports each other and accomplishes great things. It is the power of our community that will ultimately propel us through this to better times.

Your well-being and safety is and always will be a top priority, which is why I’d like to take this moment to stress the importance of remaining vigilant in your efforts to slow the spread and combat COVID 19. Please continue to follow Broward County Emergency Order restrictions regarding masks and social distancing. If you feel vulnerable at this time, it is safer for you to stay at home.

You can find resource information, guidelines and emergency orders at broward.org/coronavirus, on the Florida Department of Health and CDC websites, and on ppines.com/coronavirus.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact my office at 954-450-1020, or by email at fortis@ppines.com
