Teach Your Child About Emotions

We live in a world full of stimulation; all day long we all have daily activities that keep us busy; we all want to be smart to make good decisions, we also want to have a healthy and strong body, some of us never stop studying, some of us workout, some of us have our children enrolled in extra activities, enrichment programs to have them ready to success in life, but what about feelings and emotions.

Working in a preschool makes you realize how smart and advanced, intellectually talking children are nowadays, but I have also seen that most of the time they do not know how to identify what they are feeling and how to manage what they are feeling.

It is normal , at any age, to cry when you feel sad, when you are frustrated, even when you are happy or just because we are overwhelmed by a strong feeling, but we, as adults, understand what or why we are feeling and in most of the

cases we know how to express or manage those feelings, but what about children?

Toddlers even preschoolers and teenagers, they do not know how to communicate and when they need or want something they act out by using a temper tantrum, defiance or aggression, in these cases, we as a parents or teachers, have to teach them how to control/ express those emotions.

Here you have some suggestions on how to help them to express their feelings:

▸Name your child’s feelings, label them with basic feeling words such as mad, happy, scared and sad. ▸ Talk about your own feelings, make feel ings part of everyday conversation. ▸ Watch a movie or read a book together and talk about the feelings when something happens to the character of the story. ▸ Teach coping strategies such as taking deep breaths, encouraging them to go to a quiet place to relax. ▸ Provide positive encouragement , for instance, “I like the way you told me that you are sad because you lost your favorite car”. ▸ Have the child look at the mirror and make sad/happy/mad faces. ▸ Teach them by practicing.

Children who are emotionally competent will be able to engage effectively in social groups and to success in school and life; so let’s make sure that our kids know how to are to the way they feel.

Rob’s Family BBQ:

Authentic Slow-Cooked Barbecue in the Heart of Broward

You can tell the difference between an authentic barbecue restaurant and a pretender as soon as you walk in. Rob’s Family BBQ is as authentic as you can get. An incredibly wonderful smoky smell greets you before you even open the door. The fun, but no-frills decor assures you that this restaurant focuses on the food and it shows. It is no wonder they have been voted best of Davie and Plantation for five consecutive years!

BBQ that Won’t Break The Bank

The dishes are not only delectable but also affordable. Rob’s uses only the finest ingredients and age-old family recipes to ensure every item on the menu will leave you coming back for more.

Our family’s favorite dish is the Baby Back Ribs. Rob’s imports their ribs all the way from Denmark. They select each portion by hand to ensure every diner gets exactly what they are expecting. The ribs are tender and sweet, with just the right amount of smokey flavor without overpowering.

In addition to their house special, Ribs, Rob’s Family BBQ offers a full assortment of smoked meats including chicken, pork, and beef brisket. They also have a number of wonderful non-barbacue options for family members who are a bit less carnivorous!

It Is All About Family

Rob and Mary Scruby opened Rob’s Family BBQ in 1995 and have been serving South Florida’s favorite barbecue ever since. Their restaurant is a true family business. You might see two or three generations of Scrubys when you visit. Next time you are heading out with the kids be sure to stop by and say hello. Try the Key Lime Pie!
