COMMUNITY NEWS WMS SPECIAL CHILDREN’S CONCERT TURNS DANCE PARTY

Weston Music Society Vice President of Education Christy Blackford stated, “Bringing music to young listeners is one of Weston Music Society's missions. We want to give Weston children the opportunity to see a concert and partake in the many aspects that music has to offer.

Under her leadership, every year the Weston Music Society has presented one or two concerts in the elementary schools in Weston. Because of Covid protocols, that has not been possible for the last 2 years and again this year.

So, instead of bringing music to the students, the Music Society decided to bring the students to the music. They scheduled a free concert for Saturday, May 7, 1:00-3:00 pm at the Bonaventure Town Center. It was to feature Willie, a former drummer with Third World and would have involved the kids in participating in drumming and dancing. But… Due to unforeseen circumstances, Willie was unable to come.

In no way were we willing to disappoint the kids. So, the Society reached out to Pure Energy Entertainment which had conducted the highly successful Dance Party in December 2021. They were available and put on a lively show. The kids released a lot of energy enjoying the music and dancing. Both these activities have a positive impact on our Covid world and the kids had a great time.

President Gina Catone noted, “The Weston Music Society continues to explore new ways to engage children with music. We want to share the joy that music brings to the lives of our youth. I am grateful that Pure Energy was able to work with us and save the day for our event.’
