CS/CS/HB 121
By State Representative Robin Bartleman
t is a priority of mine as a state legislator to ensure that Floridians have access to high-quality healthcare. After 3 years of advocating, CS/CS/ HB 121, Florida KidCare Program Eligibility, unanimously passed in the House and Senate and is ready for Governor DeSantis’ signature. The Florida KidCare Program provides health insurance coverage for families with incomes too high to qualify for Medicaid. This bipartisan legislation expands eligibility for the Program, ushering in tens of thousands of working families and children.

Working families in Florida are struggling. They are struggling to put a roof over their head, pay for childcare and put food on the table. They are also struggling to afford health care for their children - their most precious asset. The current system abruptly takes away benefits when they earn a few extra dollars by virtue of an employment promotion or pay raise. Passage of this
Ibill creates a glide path to maintain health care insurance coverage for their children, eliminating the fiscal cliff. This ensures working families can achieve economic prosperity while keeping their children healthy.
CS/CS/HB 121 increases eligibility for the subsidized KidCare program to 300% of the federal poverty level. This bill requires the Florida Healthy Kids Corporation to establish new monthly premiums in 3-6 income-based tiers. This means, as a family’s income increases, their premium will increase which will mitigate the fiscal cliff and more readily prepare them to afford healthcare when they no longer qualify for the program.
June is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month
I am excited to announce that I will be bringing the “Brain Bus,” a mobile Alzheimer’s education program, back to Weston this summer! This invaluable resource is part of a statewide mobile outreach initiative. People with Alzheimer’s and caregivers can get a better understanding with this great resource. The Brain Bus will arrive at the Weston City Hall on July 18th from 2 pm–4 pm!
