Make Our Schools Safe donated 298 ‘Stop the Bleed’ kits to Cypress Bay High School at a Press Conference at Weston City Hall last month. Make Our Schools Safe is a 501(c)(3) national nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting students and teachers at school. The charity’s mission is to empower students and staff to help create and maintain a culture of safety and vigilance in a secure school environment.
The foundation collaborates with highlevel security advisors to offer survival information for protection in emergencies. The focus on bringing these skills to schools so teachers feel confident to protect their students and themselves.
Make Our Schools Safe was born out of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre on Valentine’s Day 2018, when the foundation’s founders lost their beautiful 14-year-old daughter, Alyssa Alhadeff.
The donation was made possible by a group of Cypress Bay students. The students raised money so every classroom can have a kit in the event of a shooting or other emergencies, One of the students who started a club at the school stressed the importance of having these kits.
“Having a Stop The Bleed kit in every classroom means that as soon as a student or teacher or administration is shot, the Stop The Bleed kit can clog the blood immediately and hopefully save a person’s life,” said a student.
