Think About You

By Ivis Mateos

More than ever being a mom or a dad is exhausting and overwhelming. So much to think about with all the chaos that we are living in these very challenging times. There never seems to be enough time to dedicate to ourselves with all the commitments we have of being there for family, employers or friends, deadlines we have to meet etcetera.

We tend to put our needs last as we pour all our energy into helping others yet we struggle to pull through our own daily responsibilities.

All too often we are like our cars, running on nearly empty tanks of gas and don't notice until we finally get stranded on the side of the road, left with no other option other than to stop and wait for help. This is counterproductive. You will eventually burn out (run out gas) and either be useless for everyone or completely run out of gas, ruining your engine and stop running all together.

Don’t let yourself get to this point where you are no longer capable of nurturing your body and mind. You owe it to yourselves to indulge in self-care without guilt in order to fulfill your basic needs and that of those you love. Plan alone time and dates with yourself getting pampered or simply going out for a walk in the park or the mall. Take yourself out to eat your favorite meal or treat yourself to a personal growth class or therapy session to learn new things about yourself.

“Remember, when we take time for ourselves we aren’t taking time away from anyone else, we are making it possible to continue to pour into them.”

Now is the time to make the change, to stop and re-evaluate yourself and refuel your tank. Go pamper yourself , you are worth it!
