Welcome to our 2009 dining guide, It is a delight to bring you the latest details of what’s available so close to home, including menus featuring the best in dining here on the North Coast of Oregon and the southwest coast of Washington. Innkeeper, poet and Daily Astorian feature writer David Campiche, of Seaview, Wash., got it right. While waxing eloquent on the North Coast’s astonishing array of restaurants, he wrote a couple of years ago: “The Columbia-Pacific region is the Promised Land for those who appreciate a rich bounty of natural products that come from water, earth and sky.” Nothing has changed. Whether your taste runs from pizza to fine dining, there is something delightful at all the restaurants in this guide. The following pages highlight regional specialties. We’ve done the research for you and put it together in this guide. Keep it handy year-round. Study what is available then set a date to treat yourself. And wash down the bounty with Northwest and local brews or Oregon and Washington wines. In the almost 30 years that have passed since I first moved to the Pacific Northwest, wines from our region have matured with gusto, and are the ideal accompaniment to any meal. Home of the Old Time Logging Museum Offering restaurant, gift shop and rustic gear equipment in the logging museum. The interior of the restaurant has a huge 85 foot Ridge Pole in the main room, the largest known in the U.S., it weighed 25 tons when cut and has 5600 board feet of lumber in it. This building is Gordon Smith’s dream. In the early 70’s he began with a few rusty pieces of equipment, some of which were donated, others on loan and most of them purchased; which all led to the actual building of the Log Cabin. Another spectacular feature of the building are the hand-carved main doors. They are cut from an old growth Fir log. Each door is 4 1/2 in, thick and weighs 500 pounds. The two fireplaces are built with approximately 50 tons of rock found locally. The mantle of the fireplace in the main dining room is solid black walnut. The restaurant is owned and operated by Gordon and Roberta Smith. 40
