from the editor The path of leashed resistance

W

hile writing this week’s cover story about the Waldport lighted dog parade, I found myself musing about how nice it would be to have a faithful pooch who would jump at the chance for an illuminated stroll across Alsea Bay Bridge — even in the midst of December. As regular readers might recall, the editorial mascot at TODAY Towers is not a dog but rather a very elderly Welsh cat called Katy, who made the hop across the Atlantic with me some seven years ago and has surprised us all by overcoming just about every ailment in the book and continuing to present herself every morning for breakfast. Katy has had one experience with a cat leash, which was brief and uncomfortable for everyone involved. With a look of utter disgust on her face, she Patrick Alexander hunkered down and refused to move an inch until Editor & Publisher the degrading device was removed. Just imagine how she would react if we tried to wrap her in Christmas lights. Assistant editor Quinn on the other hand seems to enjoy his baby reins and sometimes just like to wear them while playing with his crayons. Anyone care to join us for a lighted toddler parade? The leads are fluffing their branches, the chorus are gluing on their beards and all is ready for this year’s Christmas Celebration from Kids Sing Out. Since playing to packed houses last year, the children’s theatrical group has aimed its sights even higher for this year’s show — with students working on complicated counterpoint harmonies and taking their choreography up a notch, too. The show, which will run at the Lincoln City Cultural Center from Friday, Dec. 12, to Sunday, Dec. 14, will feature first-half numbers including “Christmas Canon,” the contemporary Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s adaptation of Pachelbel’s “Canon in D.” The production will also feature a Sugarland-style country line dance in the form of “Nuttin’ for Christmas” and a Celtic dance to the Blackmore’s Night version of “I Saw Three Ships.” In the second half of the show, students will put it all together for “Destiny,” a dynamic Christmas musical

written by KSO founders John and Valerie Kendall. “It is adapted from an old American tale that has taken many different forms,” John Kendall said. “It is a wonderful metaphor of how broken dreams can be woven into the tapestry of a higher purpose.” Kendall said the couple originally wrote the piece for performance by late teen and adult actors but decided to adapt it for the KSO group after seeing how well they handled last year’s musical, “The Gift.” “The main adaptation was the addition of a chorus that would function very much like an ancient Greek chorus,” Kendall said. “This chorus would set up scenes anticipating, informing, and empathizing with the dramatic action of the main characters from a community perspective.” In this case, the Greek chorus are a combination of bushes and flowers played by kids aged 5 to 7. On the other side, an antagonist chorus takes the form of a band of woodcutters — a

group of clueless comedy villains. The lead roles in “Destiny” are a trio of trees, played by Haley Callin, Avery Nightingale and Margery Price. The main woodcutters are played by Katie Hudson, Hunter Kimbrough, Winter Callin and Marshall Karstrom. Mary is played by Nora Williams. Costumes are by Judy Allen, Jerry Corbin and Shannon Zantello, while Flying Fish Productions handled the lighting and set design. “Don’t wait for the professional touring group from out of town,” Kendall said. “You’ll get the best experience from our local kids.” The show will debut at 7 pm on Friday, Dec 12; with follow-up performances at 7 pm on Saturday, Dec 13; and 3 pm on Sunday, Dec 14; all in the auditorium at the cultural center, 540 NE Hwy. 101. Tickets, $7 in advance or $9 at the door, are available online at www.lincolncityculturalcenter.org or by calling 541-994-9994.

A brush with classical music E

veryone knows great music can inspire the creativity in all of us. But seldom do we get to see that creativity blossom before our very eyes while the musicians are still playing. That will change on Tuesday, Dec. 16, when three artists pick up their paintbrushes and respond live to a performance of classical music from the Three Centuries Ensemble on stage at the Lincoln City Cultural Center. Entitled “Sound of Nature, Sound of Art,” the collaborative concert will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Cascade Head Scenic Research Area — a 9,670-acre environmental sanctuary just north of Lincoln City, established by Congress in 1974. Co-hosted by the Salmon Drift Creek Watershed Council, the concert will feature a program of chamber music inspired by land and sea along with live painting from coastal artists Randall Koch and Graham Klag as well as Portland’s Scott Conary. Audience members will be able to watch the trio paint and create while the Three Centuries Ensemble plays pieces by Vivaldi, Faure and Johanson. The Three Centuries Ensemble has been performing chamber music in Oregon for 20 years in front of audiences ranging from the Abbey Bach Festival to the Bridgeport Brew Pub Music On Tap series. The ensemble is led by Jonathan Dubay, the violinist who conceived this “Sound of Nature, Sound of Art” performance event. He will be joined by Cary Lewis on piano, Todd Kuhns on clarinet and Gregory Dubay on cello. The concert lineup will include “Spring,” the first of Antonio Vivaldi’s four programmatic violin concerti “The Four Seasons” and Gabriel Faure’s “Piano Trio.” It will conclude with “The Wave Sings Because it is Moving,” by Oregon composer Bryan Johanson. Violinist Jonathan Dubay has performed chamber music concerts throughout the United States as a member of the Essex Quartet, including performances at Alice Tully Hall and the Aspen Music Festival.

Todd Kuhns on clarinet

Gregory Dubay on cello

He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Yale University as a recipient of the Broadus Erle Memorial Scholarship; and has taught at The Juilliard School, assisting the Juilliard String Quartet as a Lisa Arnhold Memorial Fellow. Cary Lewis is in constant demand as a collaborative pianist for soloists and chamber music groups. He performs alongside William Preucil and Dorothy Lewis as the Lanier Trio, whose recording of the complete Dvorak Trios was honored by TIME magazine as one of the ten best music recordings of any kind in 1993. Gregory Dubay, cellist, attended Reed College and has a master’s of Music in Cello Performance from the Manhattan School of Music, where he was the recipient of the Pablo Casals award. He served as principal cellist of the Honolulu Symphony and a cello instructor at the University of Hawaii. Clarinetist Todd Kuhns has been a member of the Oregon Symphony since 1989. He also performs each summer with the Oregon Bach Festival. As a soloist, he has appeared with the OBT Orchestra and with the Oregon Symphony numerous times. In addition, he has performed with the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra and Chamber Music Northwest, and was the clarinetist with the Third Angle Ensemble for 20 years. Artist Randall Koch has lived at Cascade Head since 1978, and has increasingly been influenced by the climate, forest, rivers and ocean that surround him. The former executive director of the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology, Koch has created work for gallery settings, public exhibitions

and public art. His long resume includes many one-man shows, films, publications and collaborations, as well as a commitment to statewide arts advocacy. Graham Klag has mounted several solo and group exhibitions in the Northwest and, in 2011, received a RACC project grant for “Invasion of Place,” which used dead invasive ivy in a public art installation in Portland’s Lower Macleay Park in Portland. Portland-based painter Scott Conary is currently serving a winter residency at the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology. His best-known paintings are of meat, inspired by the substance’s visual complexity and our complicated relationship with animals. Larger format landscapes suggest forgotten histories and our shared experience with the land. His newest series of work, of the simple weed, is inspired by his daughter’s battle with complicated heart defects. All are driven by a love and curiosity of the natural world and how we live within it. The Dec. 16 concert will begin at 7 pm in the auditorium of the center, 540 NE Hwy. 101. Tickets, $18 in advance and $20 at the door, are on sale now at the center, or online at lincolncity-culturalcenter.org. A selection of Northwest beers and wines, My Petite Sweet cookies and bars, and Mountain Man savory snacks will be sold before the show, and during intermission. For details and tickets, call 541-994-9994.

Time for a laugh? German composer Richard Wagner is famous for many things but brevity is not among them. His masterpiece Ring Cycle weighs in at a good 15 hours, depending on how feisty the conductor is feeling. And anyone planning to start their Wagner appreciation with a little light comedy should still be sure to set six hours aside when “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” hits the big screen in Newport on

Saturday, Dec. 13. Translating as the Mastersingers of Nuremberg, the opera follows the struggles of a group of Renaissance “master singers” whose song contest unites a city. Directed James Levine, the opera is the latest offering from, The Met Live in HD, which brings performances from the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City to big screens across the world.

Best lay some plans to see this one A powerful portrait of the American spirit will fill the big screen at the Newport Performing Arts Center on Friday, Dec. 12, when National Theatre Live presents John Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Men.” The hit Broadway production stars Golden Globe winner and Academy Award nominee James Franco and Tony Award nominee Chris O’Dowd in a heartbreaking testament to the bonds of friendship. Described by Time Magazine as a “moving masterpiece,” the play is directed by Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circles award winner Anna D. Shapiro and features Leighton Meester and Tony Award

winner Jim Norton. The production was nominated for two Tony Awards, including best performance by an actor in a leading role in a play for Chris O’Dowd. National Theatre Live is an initiative by the UK’s National Theatre to broadcast live performances onto cinema screens around the world. Screenings are supported by the City of Newport and this event is hosted locally by Kate Madison and Donald Stein. The screening will run from 7 to 10 pm at the center, 777 W. Olive Street. Featuring Amelia Trio members Anthea Kreston and Jason Duckles on violin and cello and Monica Ohuchi and Kenji Bunch on piano and viola, the quartet will perform a

mixed program of solo, duet and quartet pieces by Bach, HandelHalvorsen and more. The concert will conclude with a 10-minute Christmas sing-along. In addition to her work with the Amelia Piano Trio, violinist Anthea Kreston performs as a soloist has made recordings on New Tangent, Naxos and Cedille Records. Cellist Jason Duckles works

as both a soloist and chamber musician. He is the founding member of the Amelia Piano Trio and has been a member of the Avalon String Quartet and the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble. I…andheard the bells… choirs; and orchestras; and bands as the coast tunes up for the holidays By Jenni Remillard For the TODAY

By Jenni Remillard

Whether you’ve been naughty or nice, Santa Claus is coming to town. And there will be plenty of holiday music to welcome him as, all along the Central Coast, strings, winds and voices herald the coming of the holiday season. The Central Coast Chorale will kick things off on Friday, Dec. 12, with a holiday concert at the Waldport Community Presbyterian Community Church at 7:30 pm. Topping out at 50 members aged 14 to 80, they will be joined by Women of Note as well as the chorale’s handbell choir, which will perform in duets, trios and quartets. The chorale will perform a variety of music from traditional to modern. Several pieces will be performed ‘a capella,’ which means without instrument accompaniment. Romana Martin will accompany the other tunes on the piano. Women of Note, a sub set of the Central Coast Chorale, will perform three pieces before rejoining the chorale for a finale of “I Wish You Christmas” by John Rutter. There is a suggested donation of $10 for admission. If you can’t make the Friday concert, it will also be performed on Sunday, Dec. 14, at the Newport Performing Arts Center at 2 pm. On Saturday, Dec. 13, the Newport Youth Symphony of the Oregon Coast will perform at the First Presbyterian Church of Newport at 7 pm. The concert will feature a dance theme with country dance pieces by Mozart, a tango and “March of the Toys” among others. The beginners’ orchestra Overture Strings will also be performing at the concert. In addition, the Youth Symphony will be performing in Newport twice on Sunday, Dec 14, — first at the Festival of Trees at 1:15 pm in the Best Western; and later at the

Oregon Coast Aquarium’s Sea of Lights at 6 pm. Made up of intermediate music students and adult players, these talented instrumentalists will be getting the most out of the holiday performing season. Also on Saturday, Dec. 13, the Pacific Coast Wind Ensemble will begin their new concert season with a performance at 2 pm in the Yachats Commons. The band welcomed Lou Invernon as the new director this season and will revisit familiar seasonal favorites as well as some nonholiday tunes. The band recently obtained a piece for band and narrator called “Twas the Night Before Christmas,” and rewrote the lyrics to represent a Central Coast theme. Just wait until you find out what is pulling Santa’s sleigh. The ensemble will again be benefiting South Lincoln County Resources with proceeds from a suggested $5 donation for admission. There will also be a collection box for non-perishable food items for Food Share. During intermission, tasty treats will be available for purchase with the proceeds going towards the band’s music student scholarship fund. On the same night, the ensemble will also be welcoming Santa to Waldport at the Alsea Bay Historical Interpretive Center at 5 pm; as well as performing at the Oregon Coast Aquarium Sea of Lights on Dec 20. And the sounds of an Appaalachian winter will be on offer on Sunday, Dec. 14, as the Yachats Community Presbyterian Church hosts its Community Christmas Concert. Starting at 2 pm, the concert will feature music from the chancel choir; handbells; and an organ and folk ensemble. Audience members are encouraged to bring a bell of any kind to ring during carols. Refreshments follow the program and donations will be accepted for South Lincoln County Resources. Music is on offer in the Lincoln City area, too, with the Midway Chorus & Orchestra performing the Christmas portion of Handel’s “The Messiah” at the Salishan Lodge on Sunday, Dec. 14, at 3 pm. The group have been performing the Christmas portion of this masterpiece on even-numbered years for the past three decades. This year’s performance is directed by Adam Schwend and features Brenna Sage on piano. Due to limited parking at Salishan, shuttles will run from the Pro Shop parking lot, starting at 1:30 pm. There is no admission charge, but an offering will be collected.

Pelicans get top billing Visitors to the Oregon Coast Aquarium can get an upclose look at one of the world’s most distinctive seabirds at a screening of the documentary “Pelican Dreams” on Saturday, Dec. 13. The film tells the story of Gigi, a 4-month-old pelican who landed on the Golden Gate Bridge in 2008 with no interest in taking to the sky again. It follows the journeys of Gigi and another pelican named Morro through rehabilitation, showing their transformation from awkward, gangling terrestrial creatures to graceful acrobats in the sky. Filmmaker Judy Irving said making “Pelican Dreams” allowed her to explore the sensation of flight experienced by the charismatic seabirds that she holds dear to her heart. The film will screen at 11 am and will be followed by a Q&A session with the aquarium’s aviculturists. The screening is $15 per person, or $25 for tickets that include admission to the aquarium. Tickets must be purchased in advance at http://bit.ly/1xWRjb1. The aquarium is located at 2820 S.E. Ferry Slip Road, Newport. For more information, go to aquarium.org or call 541-867-3474.

Join the all-weather feather study The Audubon Society of Lincoln City is inviting people to spend a day in the field for science — or just for fun when the North Lincoln County Christmas Bird Count gets underway on Sunday, Dec. 14. This is the second year the Lincoln City group has participated in the count, which is the longest running citizen science project in North America. The results have provided critical information on bird populations over the 115 years it has been conducted. “Participating in a Christmas Bird Count with a team is a great way for birders of all levels to enjoy a day outdoors and to sharpen their birding skills,” group president Jack Doyle said. “Field observers will also have the opportunity to meet others who share an interest in birds and to discover some good local spots to find birds.” Count coordinator Dawn Villaescusa said she hopes to see some strong results from

Pacific Wren • Photo by Ernie Rose the Lincoln City observation area — a 15-mile-diameter circle that includes very diverse habitat. The count starts with a team organization meeting at 6:30 am in the Pig ’N Pancake, 3910 Hwy. 101, Lincoln City; and ends with results reporting and a hot meal at 4 pm. Carpooling from Pig ‘N Pancake to the field sites and all-day participation are encouraged but not

required. The event is free but participants must register in advance. For first-time participants, Villaescusa advises bringing binoculars, warm clothes, raingear, waterproof shoes, a bag lunch and snacks and — most important of all — an enthusiastic attitude and a willingness to search quietly and patiently for birds. Data from the count will be sent to the Laboratory of Ornithology at Cornell University where, over the years, Christmas Bird Count records have been used to study changes in bird populations and wintering ranges. Those who aren’t up for a day in the field can still participate through the Feeder Watch program. Anyone who lives within the Lincoln City observation area can pitch in by recording the birds observed in their yards on Dec. 14. For more information or to register, contact Villaescusa at 503-507-8457 or d_villa@ mail.com.

The Oregon Coast Aquarium will continue its annual Sea of Lights celebration this weekend, surrounding guests with more than half a million colorful lights and holiday decorations as they explore the aquarium after hours. Santa will also be present to pose for photos and note visitors’ Christmas wishes — even making an appearance in SCUBA gear. Sea of Lights will illuminate the aquarium every Saturday and Sunday throughout December from 5 to 8 pm. Admission is $8, or free with same day paid admission ticket stub or hand stamp. “Sea of Lights lets the aquarium give back to the community, but we also organize it for the sheer fun of it,” said organizer Michele Steen. “There is no other place to go see a big light display on the central Oregon coast.” This year’s Sea of Lights is sponsored by Walmart, which is offering free admission voucher to customers that spend more than $100 at the Newport store on certain days. See store for details. Attendees using a voucher are encouraged, but not required, to make a food donation. The Oregon Coast Aquarium is located at 2820 S.E. Ferry Slip Road. Scrub in for Operation Christmas spirit Organizers of Operation Christmas Spirit are looking for help with this year’s program, which offers a free traditional Christmas dinner to the greater Lincoln City community. Staff from Chinook Winds Casino Resort are taking the lead on organizing the event, which will run from 10 am to 3 pm on Thursday, Dec. 25, at the Lincoln City Community Center. North Lincoln Sanitary Service chips in by providing free garbage pick-up after the event but the program still needs desserts to round out the holiday meal. “We’ve been able to count upon our generous bakers’ contributions in years past,” said Heather Hatton of Chinook Winds. “This year, we expect nearly 500 people — or more — to stop in for a traditional hot Christmas dinner.” Desserts can be dropped off at the community center from noon to 4 pm on

Wednesday, Dec. 24, or from 8 am to noon on Christmas Day. Donations of blankets, sleeping bags, hats and gloves are also being accepted to help the needy prepare for the cold weather approaching the coast. n eighth grade, after I failed to come up with a subject on my own, our teacher assigned me Wallis Simpson for a book report. At 13, I was completely sucked up into the drama of a woman capable of wooing a king from his throne. In all the years since, every time I read something about Wallis Simpson, Duchess of Windsor, I think of that eighth grade teacher. It was one of the rare times I actually enjoyed learning during my 12 years in the public school system. The truth is, I hated school – that is, until I hit college and then I absolutely loved it. Alas, I didn’t manage more than a few years there. I worked full time and went to school full time, and about a year or so short of my bachelor’s degree, I said the hell with it and walked away. It was supposed to be just for a semester. But I was sick of being broke and

But a lack of money will no doubt continue to stop innumerable students from pursuing a higher education. That’s where Wallis Simpson comes in, right along with Imie Camelli. Imie, 91, is something of celebrity in her own right around here. Chalk that up to her generous spirit, but also the fact that the woman is more colorful than a box of Crayolas. I met Imie a few years ago when she donated her hat collection for a breast cancer fundraiser. Those hats raised some $15,000. I came home with four of them. Like Imie, I like hats. If you go WHAT: “New York City Experience opening reception

David Jordan’s new multimedia show aims to capture the essence of the Big Apple from 5 to 7 pm, oering wine, appetizers and a chance to meet the artist. A visual and auditory sensory adventure, “The New York City Experienceâ€? combines recordings gathered live on the streets of the city with photographs, which are re-imagined and enhanced by computer graphics and transferred to canvas, metal, slate or paper. Jordan said the aim is to allow the viewer to observe, listen and become immersed — giving them the chance to go beyond a snapshot of life, feel the pulse of the space and experience moments in the fullness of time. “The viewer is looking at images from another space, people and places they may never see or situations they may never be in,â€? Jordan said. “They are able to share the experience at a safe distance that elicits their imagination and lets them explore another place with sights and sounds that may be new experiences for many.â€? Jordan, who received his bachelor’s of Education at Taylor University, and his master’s in Composition at Ball State, is a multi-media specialist and an ardent champion of ďŹ ne arts. Now living on the Oregon Coast, he is the owner of

Immediaresult.com, a company that produces and creates visual and aural art, designed to provide an immersive audience experience. Jordan said he sees a powerful connection between his composition degree and the visual art he now produces — with composition having taught him to understand both the inďŹ nitesimal and the whole. These insights and skills lead him to manipulate his photographs into compositions that approach symphonic depth. He and his wife, educator and concert artist Dr. Jeannine Jordan, have performed throughout the U.S. and Europe, presenting two unique multimedia organ concerts, “From Sea to Shining Seaâ€? and “Bach and Sons.â€? Having lived and worked in New York City for many years, Jordan said

his inspiration for “New York City Experience was to take an inventory of what really meant something to him. “I chose New York City as my subject because as I got to know it, it became an almost living organism in itself, he said. “The city has an aura, a pulse that keeps going 24 hours a day. It seems that all of humanity is represented there. New York City, to me, is a vehicle to express the 360 degrees of awareness we are capable of when we pay full attention to the moment at hand. The show will be on display until Tuesday, Jan. 5, available to view from 10 am to 4 pm Tuesday to Sunday. Glass half full

on the cover

Winter is here, but so is the Finders Keepers glass art giveaway By Patrick Alexander Oregon Coast TODAY

For the past 15 years, Lincoln City has been a place where a winter walk on the beach can lead to an unexpected treasure — a vibrant glass float found nestled in the sand. These handcrafted keepsakes are placed on the city’s seven and a half miles of beaches every day from mid-October through Memorial Day as part of the Finders Keepers program. Throughout the past 15 years, volunteer “float fairies” have distributed more than 30,000 of the chunky, colorful globes, modeled on the Japanese glass fishing floats that used to wash ashore regularly along the Oregon Coast. Fittingly enough for a program that has inspired so many thousands of people to scour the sands, Finders Keepers was born out of an idea that came to Waldport artist Bryan Duncan during a beachcombing trip in 1997. Duncan said he had been trying to think of a suitable

art project to mark the year 2000, when he and his wife hit the beach in search of treasures. “As we were walking, she said ‘no-one seems to find glass floats on the beach anymore,’” Duncan said. “And I thought it would be kind of great to do 2,000 floats on the beach for the year 2000.” Duncan had moved to Waldport earlier that year, relocating his engineering business from Eugene after finding a waterfront home on Alsea Bay. Although a lifelong artist specializing in watercolors, he was new to the world of glass art, having made his first visit to a glass blowing studio in Seattle just a few years earlier. “I was enthralled with it,” he said. “It was always in the back of my mind.” Duncan got some glass blowers together to produce some sample floats and started pitching the idea to cities, tourism agencies and chambers of commerce along the coast. Lincoln City pounced on the idea, with its Visitor & Convention

The first float giveaway generated a lot of press throughout the Pacific Northwest • TODAY photo

Bureau joining local businesses in pledging support. The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts and the Central Oregon Coast Association also helped get the project up and running. With glass art yet to take off on the Oregon Coast, Duncan headed to Seattle to produce the bulk of the floats, with the help of a glass blowing team in a rented studio. After the haul was transported to Lincoln City, the job of distributing the pieces fell to the “float fairies,”

volunteers who took to the sands with floats hidden in bags, concealed in strollers or tucked under their jackets. The promotion was a huge success, generating great publicity for the Oregon Coast and leading Gov. John Kitzhaber to honor Lincoln City with the 2000 Innovative Tourism Award. Preparations were soon underway to turn the glass giveaway into an annual event and it was during this time that Duncan decided to strike out on his own, having disagreed with the city’s decision that the second

year’s floats should have a 1-800 number stamped on the base. While the city contracted with other glass blowers, both in Seattle and on the Oregon Coast, Duncan started making and distributing floats on his own. Duncan’s independent endeavor went on for three years, one of which saw him secure a $30,000 grant from the Seattle-based Jon and Mary Shirley Foundation that allowed him to distribute almost 2,000 floats all the way from Florence to Pacific City. “A lot of the time, I would put one in the surf and sit back and watch,” he said. “I kind of called that my Prozac. Because I would sit back and wait for someone to find it and you would see this complete change in attitude.” By 2004, escalating studio costs combined with his father’s failing health persuaded Duncan to move back to Washington, where he now lives in Gig Harbor and continues to practice his art. Meanwhile in Lincoln City, the Finders Keepers program has expanded to include special drops of antique Japanese glass floats, sand dollars, crabs and

starfish, bringing the total number of glass art pieces on offer to more than 3,000 each year. Sandy Pfaff, executive director of the Lincoln City Visitor and Convention Bureau, has been involved with Finders Keepers since 2000 and said the promotion has become the city’s signature event. Some 17 years after inspiration first struck on that Waldport beach, Duncan said he has very fond memories of his time bringing joy to coastal locals and visitors alike. “It was probably one of the most fun times that I ever had in my whole life,” he said, adding that Finders Keepers helped draw glass blowers to the Oregon Coast as well as drawing attention to their work. “I think it’s great that people can still get out there and find floats,” he said. “Every so often I will throw one out there — just for the heck of it” For a schedule of special glass art drops go to www. oregoncoast.org/finders-keepers/ special-glass-art-drops or keep an eye on our coast calendar at http://www.oregoncoasttoday. com/oct/calendar.
